The return of Nick Chubb

Even Kirby Smart’s getting excited about what he’s seeing out of his star running back this spring.

No matter how many times it was asked a year ago, Kirby Smart never cracked. He never used Nick Chubb’s gruesome knee injury as an excuse for the star running backs’ drop in production. He never didn’t even lend credence to the idea that Chubb wasn’t 100 percent.

This spring, however, might be causing him to change his tune.

“I think you know more about last fall by what you see this spring out of Nick,” Smart said. “He’s a lot closer to 100 percent. He’s certainly got more burst and power.”

Among other things I’m hoping for in 2017, I want to see Chubb have the kind of season he deserves in his final year.  With a little help from his offensive line, who knows?

I wonder how Nick will feel going back to Tennessee this year?

Has Tennessee fixed their field at all?

      • “Fixed”? You’re confusing our bug with their feature. 😉

The SEC ought to make the Vols play every home game in another stadium. UT has let the turf condition problem at Kneeland last far too long. UGA seems to be the team that has been hurt the most by this disgraceful situation. IMHO Bootch is watering down the field to make it more difficult for visiting teams and therefor is contributing to the injuries as well. I wish an injured player would sue UT and Bootch. I would love to get the grounds crew (particularly FORMER UT grounds crew staff) under oath at depositions. One of ’em will crack and the truth will finally come out.

          • Am I mistaken or was it at UT where Lattimore tore up his knee?

Lattimore tore up his knee during a game South Carolina had against UT but that game was played in Columbia. It also looked like a dirty hit to me. One UT guy went high and another guy went at Lattimore’s knees simultaneously. But then, I think UT is just a flat-out dirty team and their coaches have always recruited dirty players and encouraged dirty play, particularly under Phat Phil. They cheat with impunity too. One year they beat Bama by scoring on the last play of the game and I swear every Vols O-lineman grabbed jersey–I replayed the play several times and confirmed it. Now if one or two did it then maybe it was just a coincidence. But the entire O-line? And Phat Phil called a timeout right before that play and huddled with all the offensive players. He clearly told them all to hold–and of course there was no flag. If we are going to have conference realignment I would be happy as a pig in mud if UT was shown the door and we got Oklahoma in place of the Vols.

  4. Nick is one guy who deserves every accolade he ends up with at the end of the year. Sony is an excellent football player and loves Georgia, but I hope Nick breaks a couple of the “unbreakable” Georgia records this year.

100% agree. Nick Chubb is one of the best people to ever come through college football, and his incredible talent and allegiance to UGA is just a bonus. A Bulldog for the ages. Wish him nothing but the best.

Are you referring to an unbreakable “rushing yards gained in a career” record?
If he does it he will have earned every accolade he would get, and more.

Very encouraging on Chubb, this is the first time he has seen a “full blown Chubb” (yeah, intentional). He had no way to compare last year to the pre-injury Nick until this month. Sure sounds like the missing “it” is back. Pass some more Kool Aide…again.

How cool would it be if number 34 showed up for Georgia/uT game. Stalking the sidelines and glaring at the Tennessee secondary. I’d pay a King’s ransom for such a night.
