This is what a false economy looks like.

The Texas football team has new lockers with a 43-inch television monitor rather than just a standard nameplate.

Per, bruh.  Times 85, that clocks in at a modest $892,500.

Wretched excess in the era of amateurism, for the win.

How many Longhorn players do you figure would rather have a check for $10 grand and a regular locker instead?

  1. Seeing that locker for the first time is what I will remember when asked when I knew CFB had jumped the shark.

God what a waste of money, in a real-world sense

Wouldn’t all players get a similar locker, not just the 85 scholarship players? As obnoxious and extravagant as the locker is, dividing the team with a message like this seems even worse to me.

Are you kidding, the players would want the locker and the cash.

  9. I saw that the other day, and, I don’t think that’s the type of pushing the envelope I meant but maybe I’m clueless.

But remember, the University of Texas can’t afford to pay players because they’d have to pay all of the athletes in non-revenue sports as well. So, they’ll just continue paying the head coach a multi-million dollar salary along with other millions for the on-field coaching and off-field support staff, as well as more than one million dollars ON LOCKERS.

It’s getting harder to be a college sports fan without really being disgusted by shamateurism.

  11. Amateurism…ugh! This should have been a TLDR of my rant yesterday. I see amateurs, and know it’s an amateur sport, but everything else around the program is the opposite of amateur. It’s why the college game was always my favorite but I don’t feel it as much now. The fan experience is far from what I loved. Someone should ask the recruiting services how amateur it is.

the only thing that is amateur these days are the players and the people running the concession stand.

      • Haha! Yeah, I definitely forgot about the concession workers. I don’t hold it against them but some of those women work like they’re at church. 5 conversations between you ordering and you actually receiving your order. awe shucks!

Watching the 85 tv’s above the lockers is an ergonomical nightmare when considering the padded bench

Whose brother in law got $10500 each for the lockers? That tv is less that $300 for a contractor.

Never mind the cost of the locker – which is ridiculous – what about the monthly cable bill? Or is it just CCTV? Maybe they are intended to be study aids. Yeah, that’s the ticket!

You think that the players will be able to control those TVs? Ha…those are there to be video ads for the program. No way a kid gets to plop down in front of his locker and watch Veep.

They will amortize the cost over the 5 year life span for only $2100/yr. each.

For $10,500 I would expect at least a fridge, microwave and wet bar.
