Donors wanted.

I’m Greg McGarity, and you have my word.

Georgia’s legendary tennis coach Manuel Diaz confidently proclaimed that shortcoming will be addressed before the NCAA’s next bid process resumes around 2019 or so.

“Honestly, when this tournament comes back, I expect we will have 10 indoor courts, a new six-court complex and we’ll keep the four we have,” said the Bulldogs’ coach of 29 years. “It will be, once again, probably the best facility of its kind in the nation.”

Diaz, when asked if he’d been given assurances by UGA’s administration that it will provide the resources to build such a facility, he grinned and laughed. “Yes, that’s been part of the conversation. Assurances? That’d be nice.”

This kinda sounds like the Georgia Way version of “you know how to take the reservation, you just don’t know how to hold the reservation”.  Maybe Manny’s planning on going all Jeremy Pruitt on B-M’s ass.  Hey, if it worked once…

The fact we lost hosting privileges for the crown jewel of NCAA tennis still blows my mind. I realize it’s not football, but this would be comparable to Jacksonville losing the WLOCP or Pasadena losing the Rose Bowl. Then to make Manny grovel to get the financial support he needs is shameful after all the success he’s had with that program. McGoofy and Butt Smear should be embarrassed by this bad publicity, but they could care less.

Totally agree. Very sad we won’t host this event again for at least 5 years. Last time I checked Manny has more national championships than any active UGA head coach except Jack Bauerle.

Walt – my first UGA football game as a Freshman was when Kevin Butler beat Clemson with his 61 yard FG. I saw the Hoop Dawgs play in the SEC championship, the Gym Dawgs win their first national championship and saw the first night game at Foley Field when Bo Jackson put on a HR hitting display. However, watching the Tennis team win their first and second national titles ranked up there with the best of my college sports experiences! The crowd and atmosphere were amazing and you’d never think barking would be synonymous with Tennis;-)

Again I totally agree. I was there when Joey Pitts won at #4 to give Manny his first championship, and it ranks up there with any live sporting event I’ve attended. I was also at the match where John Roddick beat Samuelson from Tulane (I think that’s who he beat) to make it to the singles final. Another incredible sporting event. People who are missing the UGA tennis program are missing out on great sporting events.

But there’s a lovely parking deck nearby so none of the tailgaters can step on King Adams flowers in his kingdom.

McGoof played tennis at UGA. The fact that he screwed this up should be reason enough to fire him for incompetence.

It was downright embarrassing to everyone involved when matches had to be moved indoors to the old outdated facility with the 3 rows of metal benches to sit on last week. Hope Manny sticks around long enough to get some part of a new facility in his honor along with the greatest Dawg McGill of course.

Pretty sad that opposing coaches seem to be more upset about Athens losing the tournament than our own administration. But I suppose it has always been adgm’s plan to renovate the tennis complex as his last and final achievement. Guess he will be around a few more years.

I can see it now… the Greg Mcgarity indoor tennis complex. Sorry Lindsey.

Just to clarify…we do things at a pace that we’re comfortable with. I understand that may not align with the expectations of an extremely demanding fan base but these are the realities of running a top 20 athletic program at a major state university. We do appreciate everyone’s concern.

In some exciting news, we’re going to be setting up a direct deposit option for those of you who would like to send some of your paycheck directly to the UGA AA. Look for more communication regarding this feature in the coming months.

    Go Dawgs!

Don’t give GM any ideas. Don’t think he would have thought of it on his own but, now that you’ve suggested it . . . . . .

The final point of a NCAA tennis championship, played at UGA, showed up on my twitter feed yesterday.

The stadium was empty and the facility looked horrible. I don’t mean horrible as inadequate. I mean horrible as in tacky. The green tennis court surrounded by red between courts surface is an affront to the eyes. The huge, gaudy GEORGIA banner behind the baseline is immature.

Tennis is a country club sport. It always has had some style to it. UGA, show some self respect. It wasn’t about not being new. It was about being tacky. I don’t blame the NCAA for wanting out of that trailer park.

Will McG fire Diaz for calling him out in public like Pruitt did on the indoor field?
