Vegas starts cranking some numbers for us.

VegasInsider.com has spreads for the opening week here.  The Dawgs are roughly a two-touchdown favorite against Appy State.

As for other conference teams, Florida and South Carolina are currently underdogs in their respective games against Michigan and NC State, Tennessee is a modest favorite over Georgia Tech and Alabama is minus-5.5 against FSU.

Meanwhile, the sports book at the South Point casino has announced lines for what it bills as 65 of the biggest games of the year.  Georgia appears in three of those, per the linked article, all favored:  Florida by three (!); South Carolina by fourteen; Georgia Tech by five.  (Check out the Iron Bowl line, by the way.  The betting public seems to think the Gus Bus is ready to roll this season.)

  1. Surprised that casino doesn’t have a line up for the ND game – hopefully, that means Vegas believes we’re going to go Bammer-Clemmons 2008 on them

    • If I were a betting man, that F$U -5 over Florida looks pretty good. I know it’s in Gainesville, but Fisher has better players across the board than Jim Bob Duggar right now.

If you like that one, and I agree it looks very tasty, I suggest you bet it now. Barring something significant changing between now and November, FSU will put a lot better talent on the field and the line will be over a TD, I would think loser to -10. You hate to tie up money for that long, and would love to have more data, but that is why you get such a bargain. Like betting UGA on the over/under of 8 games at -115, seems like a slam dunk but you have to bet it knowing you don’t get paid until December (although, the UGA over is a much, much better play to me.)

        • Mac, there’s a reason I said “if.” I don’t trust my money (unless I don’t care about losing it) to the whims of 85 18-23 year old men. 😉

Well, I don’t do if with money that makes any significant difference to me, or my family, so I do bet a lot of football, and some golf. I can tell you if you do it that way, it greatly enhances the enjoyment of the game/season. I also will say few do it that way so I realize it can be problematic. It is particularly fun with internet betting because you can bet such small units that I never did when I bet with bookies. It can be more like taking part in an office pool if you wish to keep it truly fun.

            • I’ll bet a 4 game $20 parlay in Vegas if I’m there during the season for entertainment purposes. Other than that, I like looking at the point spreads, but I definitely don’t know enough to put my money where my mouth is. 🙂

The iron bowl line is set to move auburn money. Auburn fans know to never bet on auburn.

Take App State. UGA never covers the spread.
