The early coach catches the recruit.

There’s some fascinating stuff in this statistical analysis of recruiting tempo among SEC schools over the past ten classes.  You can read it all, or, if you want the tl;dr version, it’s this:

Teams that get the majority of their final signing class committed before Sept. 1 have a better chance of pulling in a more impressive class in the SEC.

Don’t know when that means it’s panic time in Athens over the state of the 2018 class, but it’s at least food for thought.

Looks like the dawgs lost another GA boy (Bama), the Walker kid from Crisp County is also going out of state. Forget how many of the top 20 have already committed elsewhere…but I bet it is close to 70%. Gotta win this year if Kirby hopes to keep them home.

If UGA has a good season (read 10 wins and East title), the recruiting class will close strong. I don’t think there is much chance it will be Top 5 again as we have a lot of young talent on board that will minimize the attractiveness of early playing time for elite players, but we will fill in some areas of need (DL) and be fine for 2018-19. On the flip side, we cannot afford to lay another egg in 2017 or the chance to build something special with solid depth could be lost. Many have said it before, this season is very significant for our future success…need to lay it all out staff/players. The idea of red-shirting anyone who can help would be beyond silly, imo.

Yes….agree for the most part. I am not sure if the dawgs improved on anything last year….offense, defense, record and etc. It is reasonable to think that other schools are using that to recruit against them. Kirby and staff are going to have to step up and show them otherwise this year….if not, it will be tough imo. Bama wins and they just keep reloading, winning will be key. This is the year it needs to show, the talent is there….good point on the red shirting, my first thought was Fromm….if he is good enough, play him.

Bama doesn’t keep signing top classes by promising early playing time. They sign top kids by letting the kids see themselves as part of a championship program. The kids know they will most likely have to wait a season or two before they see playing time. Another season without a trip to Atlanta and I think Georgia recruiting will drop off a cliff. It will be hard to convince a 5 star to come to Athens when they see the continuation of failure to win anything that really matters. Kids are smart enough to see when a program simply isn’t going to get it done. The excitement of Kirby coming went away with the tech loss. We need to win the East this season if we have any chance of having hope for future championships.
