Serious question: is there an SEC player under more pressure to produce in 2017 than Jacob Eason?
Talk about your reasonable expectations…
Stafford’s sophomore season saw a two-win improvement, to 11-2 and the Sugar Bowl. Aaron Murray’s sophomore year saw a four-win improvement, to 10-4 and the SEC East championship. David Greene’s sophomore year saw a five-win improvement, to 13-1, the SEC championship and the Sugar Bowl.
No worries, kid.

Really? When Kirby/Chaney screw up the offense even worse than it was last season and the Dawgs go 6-7 with losses to ND, UT, FU, GT, Auburn, and an upset by either SC, UK or Vandy, then lose the bowl to a middling ACC team you’ll be asking how the f**k did this happen? Of course, Kirby will blame the players, Eason particularly. Then Eason will transfer to Wazzou where he will lead the Cougars to their first PAC 12 Championship in 20 years and win the Heisman. Then we will know who’s fault it really was, won’t we?

Just a realist. We fired a guy who averaged 10 wins because he choked away big games and hired a guy who chokes away small games and wins 8. Hope I am wrong about Kirby but I’ll believe it when I see it. Since you are obviously new to the party I won’t jump you about the CMR crack. Rather, I suggest you go back and read some of my posts about CMR from the past. You’ll have your answer then.

Now, as critical as I’ve been of CKS in the last 18 months, Richt had some bad losses in his first year as well. Granted that team improved as the year went on and you could tell that they had bought in and were cued up for a major run in 2002. But the Auburn game was a winnable game. The Boston College game was an embarrassment. Willie Green was made to look like Herschel Walker.

I’ve always had difficulty coming up with the words to describe that initial surge back when CMR was hired. Somehow with Greene and Shock the team just seemed to be ultra poised. Stuff just happened, no “he barely made the reception” or “we almost had that one”. The kids just went out there and made everything look easy and the pressure just melted away with each game.
I see/saw the poise from Eason last year but he was largely alone (except that awesome linebacker transfer, he also performed well). I don’t know what mark did back then but he had the team running cool and confident, they were dangerous. Walked softly with a big stick.

You said it, 92. I would love to see that aura around our Dawgs again They had it at the end of 07 too. I wonder what would have happened had Stafford stayed for his senior year.

We still had the fundamental OL problem and likely wouldn’t have done better than ’08 even with Staff.

Saw Eason give up on routes and receivers too soon too many times and fail to “throw the receiver open.”
He did look poised every so often, but the kid would panic more often than he looked poised.
I wouldn’t blame it all on the OL, though they often failed to block effectively.
Eason had freshman accuracy issues.
Has to be consistent and on target.
Randy McMichael on 92.9 remarked that Eason too often would “tackle” his receivers by failing to hit them “in stride” and making them dive, slow down, jump up or twist around to make the catch.
Hoping Chaney can do for Eason what he failed to do last year.
Maybe it is just a second year versus first year thing, for either Eason or the O itself, or both.
No way we win 9 games or more unless the O knows what they hell they’re doing and Eason steps up. If Fromm starts, we’ll be lucky to win 7.

If Eason does not learn to put more touch on his passes he will regress, He seems to shoot rockets more times than not.

You gotta be pretty old to remember this but, back in the early 60’s, George Myra had a wonderful year his junior season with Miami. Senior year, there were lots of dropped passes and the talk was Myra was throwing too hard. The only real difference was that his receivers graduated the end of his junior year.

I feel Seth is incorrectly equating UGA winning games with Stafford being the driving force of that during his sophomore year. If Eason’s numbers are the same to Stafford’s sophomore year I think we’ll be in trouble. If, however, Eason progresses at the same rate as Stafford then I think we can book hotels in Atlanta for early December.

He backs into that, but the pull quote you had I think came first. But I’m probably being a big harsh on Seth. Also, if Eason’s numbers look anywhere near Murray’s numbers UGA will be knocking on the door of an undefeated season.

If eason’s numbers are that high then nick isn’t back to being nick. I’ll take 2500 yards passing and 1600-1700 from Nick. I’d rather see a 3 to 1 td/int ratio than a bunch of yards passing. We need to run the damn ball this year.

If Eason grows and can get to 3K it will make the holes available to Chubb/Sony big enough for a truck to drive through.

If he can get there throwing 25 passes or less per game, I’m all for it. That would be roughly 11 yards an attempt.

Given the amount of media hype surrounding transfers Malik Zaire and Jarrett Stidham, I would say Eason is top five at best in the SEC – along with Jalen Hurts and former transfer Danny Etling.
Looking at their early season schedules, this is not a bad thing.

If Eason does not progress it will not be because he lacks talent.
If he progresses like quarterbacks progressed under Richt we will have a great season. That is what I hope for.
If it doesn’t happen it will be because of coaching, barring injury.

I tend to agree. The OL lacked talent last year, especially when trying to blow people off the line. They magically got more effective when we finally started running wide and spreading things out. Hopefully the learning curve ends before the first of September.

That was because they were finesse OL players who relied on speed rather than brute force–until Kirby arrived and told them they had to man block against bigger and stronger defensive guys no matter what. Stupidest HC decision I ever saw. Frankly, I’m amazed they won 8 games last year with Kirby making the decisions and Chaney calling plays.

I think our memories might be too long. Grayson Lambert’s Year 1 to Year 2 progression as a Bulldog shouldn’t be too high a hurdle to clear. 😀

Unfortunately, his record as a starter might be a challenge for Eason to match. We will find out soon.

Eason went from HS to SEC and didn’t fall on his face.
That’s impressive.
He could do well this year, but you can’t judge a player by stats in a vacuum and say he didn’t do well last year. W/L isn’t a QB only stat.

Given that it seems to be a near-unanimous consensus that Eason “has all the physical tools,” if he DOESN’T make big strides in year two, it will be an indictment on the coaching staff (especially Chaney) in contrast to Richt/Bobo.

Is seeing the field a physical ability or a mental discipline. Can you coach vision? I am confident college offensive coaching teaches quarterbacks to look at more than one receiver, especially if option one is covered. Last year and in the spring game Jason was not seeing the second or third option open receiver. It was occasionally a lack of time in the pocket, but not always. If that continues when he has time, I am not sure you can blame that on coaching, if you acknowledge that is a basic fundamental taught to QB’s.
