I’m not accusing Kirby Smart specifically, but does anyone else besides me find the coaching class a trifle hypocritical in defending the need for the unsportsmanlike conduct penalty on players while getting a little passive-aggressive about it being turned on them? (Penn Wagers doesn’t count.)

Personally I think they ought to reduce the penalty to 5 yards for everyone and continue the ejection after the 2nd one as they currently do. It’s too much of a judgment call in a hyper emotional moment to give out a 15 yard back breaker (would have probably meant the difference between us winning and losing the Tennessee game last year and maybe the 09 LSU game.

Great suggestion, 5 yards is penalty enough unless the coach refuses to leave the field to argue, or does it a second time. While we are at it, celebrating should have never been anything more than a delay of game unless taunting was involved.

Excerpt from a document obtained from Steve Shaw’s email by Russian hackers:
“This rule will be enforced by the SEC command center in Birmingham to the effect of its benefit to maximizing the importance of the Iron Bowl and/or its participants. Nick Saban shall be allowed to protest any call at any time at any point on the field. Gus Malzahn may do the same except in the game between Auburn University and the University of Alabama where he will be treated like any other SEC coach unless Auburn is ranked ahead of Alabama. Penalties called on other coaches will be at the discretion of Mr. $haw and Mr. $ankey based on its impact on said Iron Bowl participants. Kirby Smart shall be penalized anytime his big toe crosses the white boundary line and he says anything to an official (AKA, the Penn Wagers Memorial Exception).

I find the whole designated ‘get-back’ coach thing for Smart hilarious. I think it is mostly for show. If he can’t control his emotions and stay off the field, Gawd help us. I would think that Sinclair could do something more productive than babysitting the HC.

I agree. Mark Damn Richt never needed no stinkin’ get-back coach! And I seriously doubt Van Hallenger was up to the challenge anyway. His last couple of years he didn’t look like he had the strength to pull a snotty string out of a chicken’s ass.

“Babysitting” was exactly the word that came to my mind as well. I guess the first penalty Smart gets for being on the field will be Sinclair’s fault instead of the HC. I saw a re-play from last year where CKS actually reached back and swatted Sinclair’s hand away from his belt. It will be interesting to see how a scenario like that might play out this year…

Staying behind the line is a rule just like lining up offsides or not enough offensive players on the line of scrimmage. The coaches should be disciplined and follow the rule just like they demand their players should, except Rico.

I have never understood why the NCAA has two separate penalties. Unsportsman Like Conduct and Personal Foul. The great majority of the Personal Fouls are really Unsportsman like but if in the officials mind you just hit the guy wrong you can carry on until they decide you are Unsportsman like at which time they then can kick you out if you are Unsportsman Like again. This is bullshit. Soccer and Rugby both have it right, two yellow cards for any reason and your butt is gone. Why is it Unsportsman like to target someone but it’s only a personal foul to hit him cleanly out of bounds. Why is roughing the passer a PF but targeting him is automatic boot? The yellow card method would cut out almost all of the BS because you would know you were gone if you got another one. If they want to keep kicking the players out for targeting then Red Card them. Some of pro rugby has a 10 minute penalty box for a yellow card. The two penalties just make it more difficult for the officials to control a game when things start going bad. The NFL last year was laughable when the WR and DB started fouling on every play but the officials would not call them for Unsportsman like because they did not want to kick two of the best players out of the game. They let the game become out of control.

Just another penalty that will hurt the Dawgs.
They can post all those pics of Smart being pulled back in 2016.
But if CMR was still HC, you almost rest assured the Dawgs would lead the SEC in that penalty.
Nope, do not let Jones and Muschamp enter in…it would be all CMR.
