Musical palate cleanser, “who’s that guitar player?” edition

The song is Wilson Pickett’s version of the Beatles’ “Hey Jude”.

The guitar player Eric Clapton asked about is Duane Allman.

Good question.

Great choice this morning Senator. Duane had a tremendous impact on rock and blues music in such a short time. One can only wonder “what if” he hadn’t died at 24. Live at Fillmore East is still my very favorite album of all time and his guitar is why.

This was more than a cleansing, just plain old good stuff for the senses.

  4. Guitar when it could be heard was classic Duane. Unfortunately Mr. Pickets screaming tended to drown out the good part of the song i.e sweet guitar music.

Duane Allman did so much session work before the Allman Brothers Band became famous, often for straight cash and no album credits, that it’s damn near impossible to get a full catalogue of his work.

Great version….I always liked Pickett’s voice myself…it’s as much a part of this version as the guitar…

I would love to listen to that as a guitar solo…way too much screaming to suit me

Senator, we may disagree on some things about UGA football but I have to say I really like your taste in music. 🙂
