And here I thought that a recruiting post about how “(t)he Miami Mark Richt and the Georgia Mark Richt are completely different beasts” and that “the Hurricanes’ second-year head coach has changed everything … including the results” meant that Richt was no longer hoarding offers and roster spots like they were the Crown Jewels of England.
Nah.
This is the new era of Miami recruiting and the new era of Mark Richt – an era where every advantage is played up to the thousandth degree and every opportunity is seized. Even at the ACC Kickoff event in Charlotte last week, Richt was selling his program. He arrived at the event donning an extremely on-the-nose tan suit, complete with a “U” lapel pin, and carefully cultivated facial stubble that would pass for cool in a South Beach club. He made sure to refer to Miami as “paradise” in his opening statement and even gave a public shutout to the high school players in the South Florida area.
It just sounds like he’s updated his look for South Beach.
Get The Picture 
Richt is not the great man that everyone thought he was. He was stealing money from UGA and was lazy. The man wanted to get fired. Hope he loses every game.

A man who wanted to get fired doesn’t fight McGarity over his job the way Richt did after the 2014 season.
It is possible to be critical of Richt’s work without resorting to character assassination. You might want to try that.

Did you know him personally? Calling CMR a lazy thief smacks of personal spite. The amazing thing is, if he met you, knowing of your slander and anger, he would probably still be kind and courteous to you. I spent several hours with him about 10 years ago, and my impressions were the opposite of yours. Even those who felt it was time for a change at UGA made no attempt to malign his character; your comments are off base, IMO.

I can think of one or two commenters who took personal shots at CMR during the transition process. One person in particular who hoped we would lose games so CMR would be fired. That person hasn’t commented here recently.

I was on the fence with CMR like many others when he was let go. However, one thing the man is not is lazy and a thief. It’s just my opinion but I think college football could use more coaches like him.

Reminds me of a conservative, buttoned up friend who moved to SoCal a few years back. He went from wearing crisp Brooks Bros. dress shirts and slacks to short sleeve Hawaiian shirts, (with top two buttons undone), with shorts and sandals that I swear were unisex at best.
He also grew one of those lame facial hair spots under his bottom lip that looked more like a landing strip on a certain female body part — or like he decided to do a hair transfusion using his pubes. So yea, I pretty much feel like I barely know the guy anymore.

I thought the most interesting part of the article was at the beginning. Knowing that the campus medical center provides one of the best views of the area seems like the kind of detail that wouldn’t have been on Richt’s radar when he was at Georgia. Whether he figured that out himself or someone else brought it to his attention, he’s using it to his advantage. Maybe he’s added some tools to his recruiting toolbox, or maybe it’s all smoke and mirrors. You’ll have to see what his roster management situation looks like in a couple of years to be sure.

Good for him for changing. He coached for 30 years without being fired or part of a staff that was let go which has got to be rare these days. Wish the lessons could of been learned another way.

Perhaps, by the use of the word “stealing”, the blogger is implying that Richt was not putting forth the maximum effort of coaching that his 4 million dollar per year salary warranted. I do not think anyone could accuse Richt of literally “stealing”, and I am not a Richt fan…..especially from the coaching standpoint.

Mark Richt had the highest winning percentage of any coach in the history of the University of Georgia. That is a fact that all of his critics cannot honestly deny. He was not overpaid.
The critics who question the quality of his results have a right to be critics, but it says more about them than about Mark Richt. There is not one of you who could have done what he did
Let’s move on and see what Kirby can do. I think it is fair to call for him to improve on Richts’ results.

All of us do not pursue college football coaching on Richt’s level as a chosen profession. Therefore, most people would not be able to duplicate his record. However, according to many of the “armchair” experts, with the material he had at his disposal, he should have done more. After 2005, what did he accomplish of any great significance? 2012 was simply an eastern division championship, not an SEC Championship. 5 yards or not. I myself do not claim to be an “expert”. I agree let’s move on and see what Kirby can do.

It just ain’t no question (trans.: it is not a question seriously asked; it is a question, the answer to which is a foregone conclusion; it is question to which the informed already know the answer). CKS is putting the pieces in place to build a powerhouse dynasty. But regarding the Bigshot and his stealing comment, that’s just a schtick; he couldn’t seriously think that. Whereas there is no question in my mind CKS will ultimately top the ‘highest winning percentage mark’, I don’t think it’s right to denigrate CMS, but I am glad we made the quality upgrade.

Good for him. If he had took that approach to recruiting while he was at UGA, then we probably would have at least a couple of championships and a statue of him at Sanford stadium.

…. back on point. I make no secret that I’m following Miami more than UGA (it’s a happier place to hang out these days). CMR sported a goatee at this time last year, didn’t shave at all during August, and was clean shaven on opening day. Last night he did another one of those Miami little league stops with about 20 players.
GTP readers will also delight to know that, after a handful of dismissals and transfers, Miami is about 6-10 scholarship players below 85 right now. I hope he’s learned some lessons about roster management, maybe not.

I think the UGA football fans turned me off. It all started with “damnit Bobo” and all the boos I head at Sanford Stadium.
I still watch 90% of UGA basketball games and am a fan.

Well you’re in luck with your new team. Miami fans are well known for being some of the most polite, informed, well behaved, and sophisticated fans in all of college football. This spans their online presence all the way to actual game attendance. They had infinite patience and goodwill for Coker, Shannon, and Golden, never once calling for their dismissal or stooping to booing at games. They are sure to show Richt the same courtesy no matter his results.

Can’t say I’m “delighted” about CMR being 6+ below the 85 limit, but I’m not surprised. With the competition he’s facing from other FL schools, he’d sure as heck better be on his toes when it comes to the details of running a program. Losing 4+ a year isn’t gonna cut it, even if it is “paradise”.

He’s doing what you have to do at Miami, and so far doing it very well. They currently sit at number two in the composite recruiting rankings with 19 commits. 15 of those are from South Florida. If you get the lion’s share of talent from from the Tampa area south, you can compete at the highest level.

You guys are clueless. Any UGA fan should be pulling for Mark to rebuild the U, because the enemy of our enemy is our friend. If Mark can cut off south Florida from UF and FSU can cut off north Florida from UF. UF will not get all the 5 stars in Florida any more. Plus the U is so far away from Georgia they pose no real threat to us in recruiting. So yea I’m pulling for the U to help screw UF.

I think one of the great things about Richt is he appreciated what he had at Georgia and he appreciates what he has at Miami. He’s been asked to compare and he doesn’t do it. Granted he had his faults but it’s not like he was Art Briles or something. Perspective, people.
