The question still left for Ole Miss to answer

If you’re Ross Bjork, when you next deal with NCAA investigators, exactly how do you go about defending the propriety of a man whom you were prepared to can by invoking “the termination clause in our contract for moral turpitude” had he not resigned first?

That’s one helluva needle to thread, brother.

***************************************************************************

UPDATE:  I guess Bjork can try to start with this.

***************************************************************************

UPDATE #2:  This is an even better short take than mine.

Even Thursday, Bjork tried to explain what had happened and why you heard him defending Freeze’s record of NCAA compliance. Ole Miss made the decision to tie its fate to Freeze’s years ago, and that has not changed one little bit.

They’re going to have to go in front of the Committee on Infractions and, for the sake of the university, argue that former staffer Barney Farrar was a renegade, but the guy whose personal life was deceitful and a sham acted honorably professionally. Good luck with that.

There’s gotta be more than the escort service call. One call, registering only one minute, it has good plausible deniability. More escort service calls? Numerous calls to Bubba the Bagman Booster? Fixing games?

The next question is where does Freeze land? Analyst at Alabama or Head Coach In Waiting at Auburn? He’s the only one that’s beaten Alabama twice…

We have been having this debate in Sunday school: why are so many of us in the evangelical churches so desperate for public affirmation that we will latch onto any public figure that talks the talk – no matter how comically they don’t bother to walk the walk?

Charlatans like Hugh are so obviously fake – but a desperate audience affirms them, and they in turn affirm the audience. It’s a sick feedback circle.

Blame it all on Henry VIII. If he hadn’t left the Church just because he wanted to get his groove on with a bunch of ladies and the Church wouldn’t grant him a divorce decree, all y’all Protestants would still be a part of the A-Team and you’d have a bunch of new things to bitch about…

Yeah, if only everyone was as morally pure as the Catholic church we wouldn’t have any scandals at all.

This is solid humor right here, and probably the best thing I’ll read on the Internet all day. However, as one of the board Lutherans, I’d remind you that a) 500 years ago, Martin Luther was tacking up his 95 Theses, well before Henry wanted to get his freak on, and b) given how the Pope sounds more and more like an ELCA Lutheran, we all know who the real A-Team is. 🙂

The answer my friend……. become an Episcopalian like myself, sometimes called a “whiskeypalian,” which we kind of secretly embrace. Least self-flagellating denomination in Christendom yet still maintains the old school mass type service of the catholic church just with more music.

The openly gay clergy and bishops sort of put a damper on my admiration for Episcopalians now. I used to really like that denomination but I had to put them aside.

As opposed to the denominations with the secretly gay clergy or the Freeze-alikes running the show?

I’m growing a little weary of the “God thinks my sins are cute; too bad He hates yours” SAPs (Self-Appointed Prophets) running around pointing fingers these days. Being a Christian to me means taking the time to take long looks in the spiritual mirror and loving people no matter what – not whining about Other People’s Sins.

My openly gay niece and nephew are wonderful people who spend a huge amount of time volunteering at their churches. Not coincidentally, once they opened up about their sexuality, their spiritual lives blossomed. Just a phenomenal young man and woman. I am really proud of them and would have zero problem with either of them leading my church community if that’s what they decide they want to do.

If he goes to Bama, Nick Saban will essentially be running a coach rehab clinic. Come in and work behind the scenes for 2-3 years, then you can grab a new job claiming to have been part of a championship organization for X number of years.

UM may have wanted to keep Freeze for his ability to beat Bama and win more than lose, but the future was really uncertain with him in place. Bjork has some rough time ahead, but apologizing for his head coach won’t be part of the drill.

Now, who’s idea was it to stir up Nutt?

No matter what side of the fence we reside on when it comes to Mark Richt, its this kind of mess that makes you appreciate that there is a genuine good man in college football.

Back in the early 2000s, I posted on another site that everyone needed to be really careful with the canonization of Mark Richt. He seemed like a great role model, but he was still just a man. My specific concern was that something like this would come out about him. So glad my fears were never realized.

Never really liked Freeze, but I still have a hard time relishing in someone else’s weakness.

After all the dirt, over a period of years, not one trip to Atlanta for the SECCG. Auburn may be multiple times dirtier, but and SEC title and Heisman for $180K is damned efficient.

Pros vs Amateurs. Ears (the original one – Tuberville) knew what he was doing when he left Ole Miss for Auburn. He was stepping up to the big time. Ole Miss wants to cheat. Auburn has it down to a science.

Freeze ultimately went 39-25 with no division titles and ceiling of 10-3 and a top 10 ranking. Jim Donnan was fired at Georgia for essentially the same accomplishments.

All this reminds me of a certain AD getting busted for DUI with a woman in the car that was not his wife and another married coach crashing his motorcycle with his administrative assistant on board. Both of these guys ended up with soft landings. Wild and crazy times in the SEC.

    • merk

Neither of those guys had an NCAA investigation looming over them, that could lead to them not being able to coach at all. No one is going to touch him until everything is settled with Ole Miss and the NCAA. How bad would it be for a program to pick him up, only to find out a year down the road that their coach cant coach anymore. Also, no one is going to want the NCAA sniffing their program by bringing him around.

I wonder if Bjork isn’t just a small step away from the gallows himself. This rodeo happened under his watch. He’s defended Freeze unequivocally and the school is looking down the throat of lack of institutional control charges. He can claim shock and that he was duped like everyone else but ignorance doesn’t allow him abdicate his responsibilities for proper governance. I see no reason he should walk clean here.
