“Kiyaunta Goodwin is not like most middle school football players. Goodwin stands 6-foot-6, weighs in at 345 pounds and is just 13 years old.”
I didn’t know there’s such a thing as an Under Armour middle school All-American, but evidently Goodwin is one. Hell, judging by this picture, he could be the entire middle school All-American list all by himself.
Only reason I bring this up is that, yes, Georgia has offered this kid.
He’s got room to grow, too.
Goodwin said doctors have told him he could grow to as tall at 7-foot-6.
“I wouldn’t be surprised if he passed 7 foot,” Vaughn said. “At that point, we’ll just teach him how to dunk a basketball.”
It sounds like Mark Fox needs to make the next recruiting trip.
The size of this kid is scary … and not in a good way.

That was my thought as well EE. Diabetes has to be in that poor kids future, not to mention heart disease, bone and joint pain, and Lord knows what else. 6’6 in middle school? Holy cow!

Yep, you don’t see any old great danes at the dog park, if you know what I mean.

Try to imagine how much he eats. That’s scary too.

Has there ever been a successful 7 foot lineman?

Your question made me look up Bernard Williams. Reading about Bernard makes me wonder whether he contributed to our zero tolerance marijuana policy. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bernard_Williams_(gridiron_football)

Slightly different build than Shawn Bradley.

Another case of scholarship mania, NCAA needs to stop this and limit when contact and offers can be made. Perhaps letters from schools after sophomore season and official offers after the junior year. I know it won’t get delayed that long, but my opinion anyway. The silliness has to end.

Unofficial offers are going to continue to be made if the NCAA regulates when an offer could be made. You really want to stop it? Allow the kid to sign at any time. Even then, the coaches will find a way around it until a kid says, “No paperwork, no commitment.” Sort of makes me think of this song:

EE, the NCAA just revised their recruiting policies for smaller sports this spring. The coaches/schools can not have contact with a prospective student-athlete until the beginning of their junior year, so maybe there is hope for the nuttiness that we are seeing today.

That would be great. What will the recruiting über alles do if this happens? The recruiting sites’ business model goes up in smoke at that point.

What a shame THAT would be.
