Better coaching?

Evidently there’s an app for that.

I asked Smart after practice Tuesday what steps he’d taken in the offseason to foster his own improvement.

“I talked to a lot of head coaches,” Smart said. “I always do that. I don’t like getting specific about who because that’s not really fair to them. But we ordered some things, a couple of things we bought through the athletic department that we think will help us in two-minute situations and situations that occur throughout the year in the NFL and in college football. As a coach you’re always trying to grow. You want to see how guys managed or mismanaged situations, so when that situation comes up for you, you’re more prepared to manage it.”  [Emphasis added.]

I guess that’s cheaper than hiring another analyst.

  1. We’ll find out what those purchases were in 90 days.

Maybe one of those two-minute egg timers?

Really hoping improved communication between the booth and Smart on plays that need challenging, or a timeout to give replay officials more time, is a part of this kit they ordered.

We’ll see if it translates to improvement on the field but one thing I like about Kirby is he seems acutely aware of his/the team’s shortcomings last year and is actively taking steps to improve each area. Sometimes with Richt when reporters would question him about an obviously deficient area he would respond with something vague along the lines of “well we’re always working to improve and get better” or get defensive (the arena!)… who knows what was going on behind the scenes but I appreciate Kirby’s offseason approach so far.

I totally agree. Kirby’s approach to and his vision of what he wants his team to be is why I’m hopeful of good things happening for us soon. I don’t know whether he succeeds or not, but at least at least we know that he is trying to address his teams deficiencies.

Agree. CMR would say he’s going to correct some issue (STs, S&C, time mgmt, roster mgmt, etc.), but much of the time he didn’t follow through. It’ll be interesting to see if Kirby is the real deal when it comes to correcting last year’s problems or whether they continue in 2017. That’s why we’re all talking about red zone D, OL, STs, playcalling, etc.

Not exactly an app but I saw this story about a system Oconee County High School is using. Interesting for UGA because Samford is the closest college using the system.

    OK with me.

Hell, if AI can beat Gary Kasparov in chess, why let the algorithms have a shot at it?
