I ❤ Nick Chubb.

Nick Chubb still remembers the lesson his first running backs coach at Georgia, Bryan McClendon, taught him. Attack. Go north.

And in Chubb’s mind, he didn’t obey that lesson, that one fateful time. So there’s one way to fix it.

“Attack. Don’t go to the sideline. Get upfield,” Chubb said. “I let myself get on the sideline at Tennessee. So now I just get upfield every time. Instead of going out of bounds.”

Well, it was pointed out, don’t you have to go to the sidelines sometimes?

“Yeah, I mean … you don’t really have to,” Chubb said.

He grinned.

I mean, how can you not?

Just a great kid and player. I hope he gets to the NFL, gets paid, and gets out with his health intact.

That’s just old school. Between Coach Dooley & Coach Gibbs I heard them tell every RB to get up field countless times. In fact, Gibbs used to cut a Denver RB each camp who failed to go north/south while out on the practice field just to emphasize the importance of getting what you can get & reducing the negative yardage plays.

And if you feel the need to run through or over a few opponents, we won’t hold it against you.

Even though Patrick Pass had a pro career, he used to run out of bounds more than any UGA back I ever saw.

Hot Dang, Chubb playing offense, defense and special teams, that’s what I got out of that. Don’t try and tell me any different.
