Dayum, Gary.

This seems harsh.

UPDATE:  Another compliment!

… Danielson and Nessler may not come close to seeing Geogia’s Sanford Stadium this season.

That’s the way Danielson saw it when he took a look at Georgia’s home schedule during a media teleconference on Thursday afternoon.

“I mean they’re going to have to be really good for us to be making a trip to Athens,” said Danielson, lead analyst for CBS since 2006. “I mean, holy cow, Appalachian State, Samford, Mississippi State, Missouri, South Carolina and Kentucky. That’s tough choosing right there.”

You don’t have to tell us.

He may be right, but he’s still an asshole.

  2. Dawg93

Yeah, Nauta & Chubb really need to up their game. Slackers, I tell ya.

    • hailtogeorgia

My thought as well…I agree with him on the other 8 positions but I’m pretty sure we’re fine at RB and TE.

  3. MDDawg

He left out the 11 positions on defense, so he must think we’re okay there. At least there’s that.

  4. Got Cowdog

Ok have it your way. He’s wrong and he’s an asshole.

  5. I would suggest he’s right and knows a heck of a lot more about the position than any blog commenter. I truly have never understood all of the negativity of a segment of our fan base toward whoever is playing QB at the time especially at Eason. The kid played his heart out last year. Did he make true freshman mistakes? Yes. Did he make as many as Matthew Stafford? No way. The kid has played 13 games (starting 12), and a number of people here and elsewhere already are asking for Jake Fromm or Justin Fields.

My opinion is that we’re going to be fine at QB. I would suggest we need to get better at the other 9 positions except tailback.

Is Danielson a biased jerk? Yep, but I trust his judgment about the QB position.

    • Biggus Rickus

I like Eason, and I think he did just fine for a freshman, but he does need to improve over his play last year, just like almost everyone else on the offense.

    • James Stephenson

I would personally suggest that Nick Chubb is the best player on the team and does not need to get a lot better, because hell he cannot get a lot better and he is pretty damned good now.

      • Jared S.

I LOVE Danielson. But I agree with you. Chubb is the most talented player on the team (in the conference even?) at his respective position.

    • Got Cowdog

He’s an asshole no matter who’s playing Quarterback.

    • Greg

I would “suggest” he knows football but not our roster. Probably just lazy, throwing shat up on the wall to see what sticks….

  6. Herschel Talker

I don’t typically get defensive when an analyst criticizes UGA because there is some truth to what they’re saying. This comment, however, is either lazy or ignorant. We’re among the best in the country at a few positions.

I usually defend Danielson because he does his homework for games, don’t care for delivery but respect his analysis. That is off the table now, he obviously didn’t understand the team he was discussing. That was very bad, FBomb wouldn’t blow that subject as badly as GD did. Must be losing it. dumb as a box of rocks Gary.

  7. paul

Well, not 10 but definitely 5.

  8. ApalachDawg

This guy has been an asshat ever since the $cam / troopah / Fairley game.

Yes, that game was the one that did it for me. I have stated in earlier posts and here in these comments above my feelings about GD, and I don’t want to be banned so I’ll just leave it here…..

      • Got Cowdog

And thank you, Apalachdawg, for reminding me why I hate Auburn so much. From the hoses in ’86, to the refs allowing Fairley to try to end AM’s career multiple times in one game, to the stupid tipped ball last minute win, Cam Newton in general……………..

  9. Dawg19

    “Gary Danielson hates our team!!”

every SEC fan at some point in the season

  10. PTC DAWG

I don’t care for that comment.

  11. Uglydawg

He’s just feeling all full of himself since Uncle Verne has left him with the keys to the car. He just turned down Arrogant Blvd.

  12. Milldawg

we could improve at running back. Elephant in the room I know.

  13. DawgFlan

He’s defending Eason, and I have no problem with that. Much like what passes for political discourse these days, I could do without the hyperbole.

  14. Tommy

Since the comment was taken out of context, is there any chance he meant it as a compliment to Eason? It’s not a sentiment I would endorse, as Eason has a hell of lot more room for improvement than the RBs or TEs. But Danielson’s a QB, so maybe he’s biased on that position.

I don’t know. I actually respect Danielson a lot, but that’s a comment that, at the very least, requires more explanation.

  15. TMC DAWG

Why don’t they get a Blackledge back?

Why don’t they get Blackledge back?

    • Bulldog Joe

Because ESPN found a confederate soldier with the same last name.

      Too soon?

      • Spike

Now that’s a good one! Kudos.. Joe.

Gary is way too proud of himself and I don’t take much of anything he says seriously. If the 3:30 game isn’t a blowout he’s noticeably bored and starts to make it all about himself with his play call guessing and criticism of coaches and players that are struggling. He latches on to whoever is winning blowing smoke up their ass and puts the losing coaches on the hot seat.

  18. Dylan Dreyer's Booty

I like Danielson well enough (yeah, I’d also rather have Blackledge) but I think you have to understand that this almost certainly is in the context of a question like: will Eason be any good this year? If you have watched replays of some of last year’s games (ESPN is constantly replaying the UT game) it is clear that Danielson has a huge man crush on Eason. Not that he doesn’t make mistakes or couldn’t improve but more because he has physical gifts that just can’t be coached. In fact, watch the last 5 minutes of that UT game (you have my permission to turn it off with 10 seconds left) and tell me Eason didn’t play his heart out. The dude is doing everything he can to win that game, overcoming a TC false start, and overcoming CKS time management issues, and winning the game except for an undisciplined team response to great work by him and Ridley. The arm talent is clearly there, the desire is clearly there, and the intelligence is clearly there. He just has to put it all together. I’m betting that he will. A better O-line will help.

  19. The Georgia Way

“I mean, holy cow, Appalachian State, Samford, Mississippi State, Missouri, South Carolina and Kentucky. That’s tough choosing right there.”

Maybe Missouri, South Carolina, or Kentucky will be really good.

  20. rpcpisme

But they will all be night games!

  21. Hillbilly Dawg

Asshat, jerk, biased ass, etc…everything except a half assed color man. Never did like him and never will. Personally I think he needs to be sent to the Patriot league to feed their radio guys stats for NAIA teams

  22. Well…if you count 5 offensive lineman and then pick 5 from our red zone defense then yea, they gotta get better. Not taking it too personally honestly. We all know we can get better and I’m pretty confident they will.

  23. kckd

The Line and Wide Receivers can make a QB look very good and we definitely were lacking there. But come on, we’ve go the best backfield in the SEC if not the country.
