Death of a formation

I’ll have to watch the replay to get a final count, but the number of times Georgia ran out of the I-formation last night had to be less than a handful.

Hell, I noticed one play on which Payne was in that he lined up as an offset back.

I saw at least one where he was fullback. The play went outside of him. I think it was the third down before the field goal

What variety of offense did Fromm run in high school, and is it different from the offense Eason ran?

  3. I think it was 2 or 3 times. So rare that I pointed it out to my wife when it happened.

I rewatched some of Ark v UGA 2014 game. Chaney didn’t use a full back there either. I am not sure Kirby is against the full back as much as Chaney is. Alabama sure used theirs last night.

Payne is still a factor in the red zone as he threw blocks on all of our touchdown runs.

Two were from the I. One was from the wild-dawg.

Yep. Watching the replay. Solid block on the his number. Online doesn’t look as bad as I thought at first.

That’s interesting. I kind of thought that the OL did look a bit better as well; there are much better coaching minds than I have so I was waiting on validation.

I saw Ben Cleveland in punt defense on my side of the field. An App State rusher ran full tilt into him. He never came fully out of his stance, stayed low and the guy just bounced off. I know the AS dude was hustling, I heard the pads pop.
Look for him on the replay in the 4th quarter. He handles business OK.

    Will remind you guys again.
Maybe you need to get more closer to Georgia high school.
Go watch a game on Friday night.
    This Friday night.
To run the football you do not need to get Ted Nugent’s FSU offensive, commonly came to be known as the “I”.

    Watched the replay this afternoon.
Tuberville made comments about the player I had concerns about going into the season.
Gillard, center. Overall his play was ok, but he did get pushed a few times.
Somewhere he needs to move the play more. He has this year and next.
Just wondering what Pittman is seeing in his play so far.
Lot goes into under center or shotgun than just the scheme and QB…center comes into play.
    Noticed Fromm gets down low.
For me Fromm has better footwork than Eason.
We looked like a Bama team might look in another year on defense.
Offense. Not sure. Think that playbook is in play.

Looks like we are back where we were in 2016 to a point. In particular with the QB position.
In 2016 early in first game they make a change to a true freshman [spring and fall camps]. Then yesterday was the same thing.
How much that impacts the playbook, the speed of the game, and number of plays appears to be an issue going into Notre Dame game.
If Fromm plays, they come out of South Bend with a win, then Chaney and staff will have done one helluva job.
Most high school QBs in Georgia come from spread offenses and more up tempo offenses. Fromm did.
You can tell he likes the game to be quicker on offense as compared to Eason.
Remember the spread teams like to run the ball, and a team like UGA should do good with it based on their TEs, QBs, RBs, and good coaching. You do not have to line up and smash mouth the defense.

Saw clip of Walker’s TDs against Notre Dame. Notice how the oline came of the line. Dang would we not like to see that again.
Watch UF against Michigan. That was bad!!. Just “stood up” and got pushed around. Bet they got their butts chewed.
Interior line play in red zone was better but has away to go.

Fromm played majority of his high school snap from shotgun sets. I don’t think Smart wanted to risk a close game in year 2 before a big road trip. I was glad to see him keep the pedal down but at the same time concerned about next week.

It would be interesting to know if Nichols was an exercise in toughness and playing under center. It would also be interesting to know if Eason wasn’t injured if the plan was for more plays under center.

Me thinks when your O-line isn’t opening holes consistently against app state, the fullback and get thing the ball while moving forward instead of standing still is helpful.
