Musical palate cleanser, another passing edition

Sadly, Steely Dan’s Walter Becker’s death was announced over the weekend.  He’s got one helluva obituary, I must say.  How many people have this written about themselves?

Mr. Becker moved to Maui, where he detoxed and became an avocado farmer.

Here’s one of my favorite Dan cuts, from Katy Lied, “Black Friday”.

Steely-football related. In the 1998 Virginia Tech played Bama. The game kicked off at about 5 and it was FREEZING. Larry Carlton (longtime Steely guitarist) played the National Anthem, not quite Hendrix at Woodstock but really jazzed up. I looked at my wife and said “these folks are going to go nuts”! Well, you couldn’t very well boo the National Anthem but the Hokie Band sang it acapella and got a big round of cheers, The Hokies won and most of the post game radio was Bama network and their was lots of bitching about Carlton! I don’t know who decided to play it that way but they didn’t know their audience.

    All night long
We would sing that stupid song
    And every word we sang
    I knew was true

My favorite band, still, to this day.

Aja and the Royal Scam just get better with time.

    RIP Walter Becker.

I take a little offense to the author calling “Hey 19” a song about a dirty old man.
