I don’t know… I mean… we are talking about a Grantham coaches defense. How good could they be?

Their QB ought to change his name to Stymie, because his ass was thoroughly stymied tonight. Same goes for the Simmons kid. So we neutralized both of their threats and probably gave other teams a blueprint to beat their asses moving forward.

I don’t know how good they are, but I know we have a DAMN good team. I look forward to every game except the SECCG. Alabama will still hand our asses to us there.

That offense is better than it seemed. Gawd help me, but I’m starting to think this defense is the truth.

I own, I am astonished. Ruthless D is one of the best in the country and a not-sky-high but resourceful and prolific O is taking some man-sized strides. That flea flicker on the opening play brought back memory chills from 52 years ago against Alabama on national TV when I was in high school. Let’s hope & pray that they follow up by extracting the full measure of revenge from the braying Butch AND his Caddyshack of a playing field in Knoxville a week from today.

That flea flicker was down the sidelines after a pass from the 20 by Kirby Moore out to the 30-35 with about 6 secs left. I was on the way out walking in the stands at about row 27 headed for the West exit and stopped to see our last play that went right to left in front of me. It wasn’t so much the score then, but the 2-pt rule had just been enacted and Dooley went for it with no time on the clock and got the win instead of a tie. Nice to know that someone else has memory of those two incredible plays.

Another tequila should polish off this Dawg night well.

One of my favorite, and early, memories of UGA football. But….it was a hook-and-ladder play, not a flea flicker. One of the best options near the end of the game where a flea flicker would almost always be doomed to fail. Thankfully, that black and white broadcast was selected as one of the few times you could see UGA on TV in those days.

Yep, some call it hook and lateral & some call it hook and ladder. Nonetheless, old as hell play all… but effective if the timing is right. Waiting on Smart and Chaney to dig that one out… or maybe the Fumblerooski or old Statue of Liberty play.

Senator, I’d have to say by any objective measure, they are a good team. They were just as undefeated as we were coming into the game, and I don’t care how bad a night the Cajuns had, MSST beat them like people used to beat your children. And we beat them in the same manner.

I’ve been over to Volnation to see what the UT folks are putting out, and there’s a couple of threads over there going about us. They expect to get humiliated.

I’ll wait a few more minutes to get onto the Florida board I lurk on. That one is gonna be GOOD! 🙂

The same Tennessee that did everything possible to cough one up to UMass today? If we play next week like we played today, we will boat race them even on their best day.

I’ve heard boat racing long enough to get the football context of the term, but can you help me understand the background of the analogy?

Shit, I don’t know the etymology of the thing. Just using it as I’ve heard it used: when you run up the score. I’ll Google it tomorrow when I’m sober.

OK, looked it up, this is kind of funny. Urban Dictionary’s second definition of the term:

“In a sporting event, the team getting out to an early lead and coasting home.”

          The first definition?

“When two or more people masturbate at the same time in a race to the finish. Friends may also watch and place bets.

Think I’ll stay away from that phrase from now on, lest I be badly misunderstood.

I figured it out. In the early days of espn, they would broadcast one on one speed boat races. One one inevitably flip at the onset of the match making for a disproportionate, spectacular win

No. And all we’ve done is beaten the best 4-8 team in the country and an over rated MSU team who all the experts thought were better than they actually were because they beat a team named LSU.

Miss State is a decent team. They weren’t as good as LSU made them look last week and they aren’t as bad as we made them look tonight. Folks, we are for real. I know everybody is afraid to say so but we are. Notre Dame has looked pretty damn good since we beat them. Did y’all not see how Fitzgerald was getting g up slow and doi g so early on? The running g back who was supposed to be such a stud just flat did t want the ball because he was getting the hot piss knocked out of him. And did the nose tackle they bragged about even play? We all wanted to see marked improvement this year. We have it. Let’s enjoy it. As WF said, this was a spotlight game with a team ESPN wanted to make into a really good team. We crushed them. Let’s get ready to go up there to Knoxville and kick the shit out of Butch.

Beating a #9 Auburn team 35-7 was pretty sweet as well, but that followed the usual face plant. This team looks like they might avoid that. We might lose (probably will, in fact) but I think we’ll get beat straight up. Don’t think we’ll give the game to anyone this year.

ND is pretty dang good, and MSU is decent as well. Those are two good teams we beat, one of them soundly. This team is growing up.

Miss state fans might be as delusional as SCU fans. The same ones (and there were many) who had all sorts of reasons all week why they would not only win but destroy us, are now saying we only won because of the flea flicker (which stunned their D) and because we played the absolute best game we possibly could have (while they played their worst.) Otherwise, it would have been a tight 4Q game and they would have pulled out the W.

Oh, and Dan Mullen should go ahead and take another job at seasons end. Talk about delusional with a clear lack of self-awareness. ..

I got up this morning anticipating numerous articles about just how dominating our dawgs were last night. Nothing on espn, yahoo, or sports illustrated (first 3 I checked). The dawgradation sucks. Did anyone else catch the announcer suggest (toward the end of the game no less!) that lsu has a better defense than us? He also said that we were only winning bc of our early success. It pisses me off, but I guess it will keep chips on our shoulders. I suppose that bama whomping unranked vandy is a bigger deal…

It is bullshit and I used to let it bother me but I hope they keep right on ignoring us. I hope Tenn thinks that way. I hope Florida is their normal smug selves when we roll into Jacksonville. I hope we keep flying right under the radar. We keep winning games and it won’t matter. They will eventually have to take us seriously and I hope it doesn’t happen until it’s too late. It’s easier to play hungry and mad when you are bei g overlooked and disrespected.

MSU is a good team with a great coach. They have limited weapons though. We had a great defensive game plan and excellent execution. Mel Tucker is the coaching MVP for this game. Chaney also called a good game and our special teams were near perfect. Did we beat Bama or Clemson? No. But ND & MSU are both formidable teams. If we can avoid the usual face plant when we are flying high, then this group is for real.

MSU is a good team, but probably no better than 3rd in the West. I am grateful for the hype this past week about them, it made us focus in a way we wouldn’t have with TN coming the following week. Our guys took it personally as talking head, after talking head raved about them and never gave us much respect. Combined with the night game atmosphere, their doom was sealed, what energy we played with. We may not be 4 TDs better every Saturday, but if Smart/Chaney hadn’t taken their foot off the gas at the end of the 3rd QTR, we would have beaten them 6 TDs yesterday. I see them with 8-9 wins.

We grew another baby step, or two, towards being a team that can compete with almost any team in the land. Our STs remain excellent. Our defense showed significant improvement in the secondary last night, which is all that keeps us from being as good as anyone in the country. Our offense is making strides, not sold on our run blocking yet, but it is improving. I honestly don’t know how good the offense is because we seem to have a governor on it still, but it can bite you. And we have depth at almost every position. I think we might be around the 9th or 10th best team at this point, and we have upside. Let’s wait and see, but you have to like where we are, and what we face. I am not worried about perception by the WWL, just keep your head down and advance boys.

Now comes the hard part. The target is on our back and everyone is going to be saying nice things.

While we don’t have any great teams left on the schedule we’ve got 7 pretty good teams. We get Missouri and then the week off in three weeks but we’ve got a lot of wood to chop between here and the the MB Dome.

Need to stay healthy and get that OL just a little bit better each week.

    • This team is pretty darn good. The defense is truly elite and should keep us in every game when the offense sputters. The offense continues to grow up, and Jake Fromm is looking like a good mix of Aaron Murray and AJ McCarron (gunslinger and game manager). The special teams especially the two specialists are field position weapons for this defense. I don’t know if this team can keep it up all the way to Atlanta, but we’re in for a fun ride.

Thanks, Coaches Smart, Tucker and Chaney for an excellent game last night.

Now, let’s go drive a stake through the heart of the Booch era on the cow pasture Saturday.

Because the defense and special teams are playing so well, they really are able to make any qb we throw out there’s job very easy.

When you throw 12 passes and beat a ranked team by 4 TD’s it ain’t about whose taking snaps any more. This is the type of team that can win with anything but a disaster at qb. You add a qb who can make plays and you get blow outs.

The good news about that qb position right now is that I’m not sure it matters what they do with it.

I kinda think they need to do what Saban did in 2015. Play them both and see if one of them wins/loses the job on the field, or not. Maybe they both play well, maybe one spits the bit. If one gets hurt again, the other is ready to go. No reason to treat the qb position as if its anything different than RG.

Eventually we’re going to face a team that can move the ball on our D, can control our running game and make the qb make plays down the field. It happens to Bama, it’ll happen to us. Fortunately, I’m not sure one of them is one schedule save maybe Auburn.

        • Mike Cooley

I get what you’re saying Man but the truth is the qb position is different than say RG. Completely different. I don’t envy Kirby on this in a way. On the other hand it’s a great problem to have. We aren’t far removed from having to start a guy who couldn’t win the job at Virginia. I will take this over that.

Mississippi State is a decent team, but we got them by the throat early and never let go. Even after the Swift “fumble” and their field goal, we never lost control of the game. That makes us a quite good team, in my view. Chemistry is clicking, defense is lowering the boom. If we

The middle of that D, big John Atkins, who does not get much press but gets double teamed and still clogs things and Roquan Smith as good S any LB in country make this D special. Course, the Carters, Bellamy, Ledbetter, Thompson and seniors in secondary all playing well. We are going to take some huge losses on that side of ball this year.

  52. So now you want me second guessing, huh? We had tons of recruits and former players, a loud and excited crowd. We’ve had Coach Smart and other pundits and coaches praise us. All this for an Average Mississippi State?? That would definitely be filed in the Georgia Way folder.

This is how I see it: MSU has talent and is well coached but so are we. We just have more talent. Ask other things being equal last night, our talent won out. We can downgrade any of these games but the facts are that we’ve whipped these teams when that’s not always the case. Well…the ND score doesn’t reflect it but we kinda whipped them, too. I’m not saying we’re world beaters but this is a talented and well coached team. My favorite thing is that each game has been the same. Consistently very good. Consistently well coached. This is also scary because, as a Georgia fan, I’d be lying if I said I’m not worried about that collapse. We’re good but not Bama good where we can stink up a joint and still beat UT or FU.

At this juncture, though, Coach Smart has surpassed my expectations. He’s already addressed our biggest issues from the past. Defense, special teams, OL….toughness. Even the transfer situation has worked out better than I could have imagined. Imo, Niazalek and Reed were bigger signings than any freshman. If I had to pick MVPs right now it would be these two. In nutshell: we’re currently better than anyone on our schedule but not good enough beat ourselves and still win.

  53. As always, though….everything comes together in J’ville. We’ve had the better team and lost to them more than once. The real test of this staff will be going down there and winning when we should win. Stop finding reasons to NOT win in Jacksonville. Damnit!
