The East is least.

An entire division makes ESPN’s Bottom 10 list.

How do I love an entire division in the Coveted Fifth Spot? Let me count the ways. Vandy lost to Bama by 59 points; Mizzou lost to Auburn by 37; Kentucky fell to Florida for the 31st time in a row by blowing a 13-point, fourth-quarter lead. Then Florida had nine players tagged in a fraud case. And the team that had just lost to Kentucky last week, South Carolina, had to kick a late field goal to win 17-16 over Louisiana Tech, a team that came in the day ranked 94th in the nation in points allowed. Am I missing anyone? Oh yeah, Tennessee message boards have been filled with eleventy-billion #FireButch complaints after being in this spot solo last week and then narrowly escaping UMass. So, how many ways? All those other numbers added to eleventy-billion.

Yeah, that’s not a good look.  But you know what would make a worse look?  If Georgia can’t top this bunch.

You got that right. Our fans are getting a bit too confident. Kirby doesn’t seem to be that way. Hope he is up their a** this week. Senior leaders are a big plus with this team………….

There’s no good reason that we shouldn’t have been atop this division multiple times since 2012 and yet, here we are.

If UGA doesn’t get to the SECC say, 4 of the next 6 years, then something is seriously wrong with us. UT is an utter mess, with recent mediocre recruiting classes that don’t hold a candle to ours, leaving the next coach a huge hole to climb out of. UF has been absurdly lucky under McElwain, but his recruiting has been subpar and they just don’t seem terribly well coached. At some point their luck has to run out, and UF is very, very fortunate that they aren’t 0-2 in the SEC right now.

SCU’s future isn’t looking any better with Boom thus far, and their recruiting also isn’t in the same stratosphere as ours (their top recruit for ’17, Jamyest Williams, was a guy we had lukewarm interest in throughout due to his height.) Mizzou looks to be a train wreck for years to come and, let’s face it, Mizzou should never really be able to compete with us regardless. Vandy is Vandy, and while UK looks much improved, they too can’t really compete with us in terms of yearly talent; not to mention that they seem to have a hard time covering WR’s during crucial moments of the game.

We seriously should have the SECC penciled in yearly from this point forward, and the timing of Smart’s emergence coupled with our rivals dysfunction couldn’t be any better.

All of your words are a huge indictment of our program for the past, what, eight or nine years since Tebow left UF? The East, IMO, is only marginally worse than it has been for almost a decade. Yes, we should dominate the East. But we should have dominated the East for some time now.

Prior to the beginning of the season I was not part of the “Kirby Must Win the East This Year” crowd.

But the way things have played out through the first four games, I really don’t think it’s overstating things to say that if Georgia doesn’t win the East this year it would be an implosion as bad as any we saw under Richt, if not worse.

I don’t think Kirby should be held to a higher standard than CMR. I just think CMR’s standard should have also been to win the East. That should be the bare minimum requirement for UGA’s head coach in a division that is (and has been) laughable. Winning the East year in and year out is the springboard to the real prize: the SEC crown.

This is where (taking a big gulp of air) credit needs to go to Saban. Kirby coming from being with Saban for so many years and seeing how it is done getting ready each week to play can only help. As Dawg fans we have witnessed so many times beating someone and riding high, only to come crashing down the next week. But if any coach should know what it takes to get ready each week it would be Kirby (coming from Saban), now he just needs to keep putting the knowledge into practice.

Dammit they included everyone in the division but left us out.

    Georgia even underachieves at underachieving.

Wow way too much has been going Georgia’s way this season. Normally DeAndre Baker would have had 4 pass interference calls on him against Missy State (insert Penn Wagers name here) Are we in the Superman Bizzaro World. Everything is now the opposite.

The secret to getting the calls in the SEC is to win early.

The SEC office likes the $10M bonus associated with placing a team in the playoff and an additional Big 6 Bowl slot.

You are right plus the SEC office remembers the last truly interesting SECCG was 2012. After that it was a boring beat down of Mizzou and UF. Sponsors don’t care who wins they want eyeballs on the product and these beat downs are not helping the SEC sale advertising.

Right now there is only one legitimate team in the East. It’s lead by a freshman QB. Let that sink in. On the flip side, this might be the worst looking West conference I’ve seen in decades too. If UGA and Bama don’t meet for the SEC title, I’d say both teams shit the bed.

You are one smart dude. Playing as good as we are with a frosh QB AND a potentially really good sophomore QB on stand-by; this team has a high ceiling for the next couple of years.
Also, agree about the West…not overly impressed.

To be fair, it is lead by a suffocating Defense. The Special teams are clicking on all cylinders and the Offense is being lead/managed by a freshman QB who is performing at an impressive level currently.

The special teams are such a massive difference maker when you have a good defense. Going forward there should be a scholarship spent on a great punter every 3 years if possible. Our punter is something else. He has flipped the field so many times this year…especially against ND and Miss State. I swear against Miss State one of his punts in the second half didn’t even turn over. It frigging spiraled and went 50+ yards.

Yes UGA should win it and Florida and the Vols are a mess. But SEC East least is really getting to be a bit old. Vols beat Trade School; Cocks beat NC State; Vandy beat Kansas State and yeah, Georgia beat Notre Dame. All 4 of those teams at least getting votes. Don’t be surprised if East wins season series vs the West. But yeah, we definitely should win this in a heartbeat.

It’s funny how we all acknowledge (while the media sings it) that the SEC is not what it use to be, yet the SEC remains competitive with other conferences. I believe (they) were so used to the whippings the SEC handed (them), that when the beatings lessened they over stated the significance. Basically, as bad as the SEC seems we are still on level with other conferences.

Following the media’s synchronized message is well established. Remember the Heisman that the WWL stole from Peyton, the number of times ND/ohio.meechigan were awarded titles and bowls they didn’t earn against a nothing schedule, the AP voting Southern Cal a faux title in the BCS era when they didn’t even get an invite, etc. There are too many examples to list. The SEC is a conference, the divisions are for scheduling purposes, as a conference there is none better, and you still must face the other division’s winner. Our bowl alliances insure we will be tested, how was it when ND, and all but one Big 10 team sat at home and didn’t expose their underbelly. The truth has been uncovered since.

The fact that UGA isn’t mentioned in a post about the underachievement of the SEC East speaks volumes about how far we’ve come under Kirby.

It should be noted that the cumulative W-L record for the East and West is 19-8 and 19-7, respectively. Also the cross division record stands at 1-1 with the top team from the West blowing out a bottom three team from the East while the top team from the East blew out a top three team from the West. Sooooo….

The East is in poor shape for sure. This is the beginning of the dawgrading of Georgia’s potential to make the playoffs
The oracles at ESPN have looked into their crystal ball and seen a potential horror..a one loss UGA team and a one loss ND team as potential candidates for the playoffs. (some posts about this yesterday).
But ND can afford to lose one more and still be the darling of the media.
If Georgia doesn’t run the tables and then beat Bama..the dawgrading will become a flood.
There is a whole different set of rules for the SEC runner up than there is for ND. It would be a nice problem to have…even if it pisses us off.
Get used to hearing how sorry the SEC East is..and even the “Alabama and then all the rest” meme.
But “Georgia running the table” is almost unimaginable.

I think week-to-week evaluations of teams in September and early October are only marginally informative. If I had to project things from here, I can’t think of a single team in the East besides us and UF with the capability to be good. That said, UF’s defense is way below what it has been in the past, and it’s offense is basically unimproved. further, they are reverting back to Del Rio, which is pretty much like getting a second helping of Greyson Lambert. My point is that they do have the potential to improve on offense, particularly when Calloway returns for his last chance before the next last chance.

    SEC coaches.
    Follow the Saban rule.
    Less talk, more play.
It is more refreshing, and less filling.
Put that Coke bottle up there.
Sure sign you are the real deal.
Buy a Coke anywhere in the world, taste the same as in Athens as in Salt Lake City.
Bama football, soooo consistently goooood, same anywhere in D1 football.
When your game is stall, you talk, or take a knee.
Difference in winners and losers…those who talk too damn much or protest too damn much.
    Think not, ask Missouri.

Bet they got the playbook in some journalism class or your required frosh political science 101 [what a freaking damn cupcake course].
Way too much bitching about coaches and teams by a bunch of nose sniffers, or butt sniffers. Yep, that is what that coach at the podium is telling you sometimes, “kiss my ass”.
