You’re starting to freak me out, man.

At seventh nationally, Brian Fremeau’s FEI had the most favorable preseason outlook on Georgia I found, so it’s not like I wasn’t expecting to see good things there after a 4-0 start.  Still, I wasn’t ready for this.  Gulp.

By the way, don’t quit once you see where the Dawgs stand.  Check out Notre Dame.

Look at TCU, who Georgia beat in their bowl at the end of game last season. Double gulp.

That’s what I was thinking. Last year is last year….but in terms of program momentum….UGA has gone 8-1 over the last 9 games with wins over Tcu(4), ND(11), Auburn(17), MSST(26), and UK (36). That’s noteable.

Rarified air indeed. Up there with Bama and Clemson, the two most dominant teams right now in CFB. Any Dabo doubters out there still?

I like Dabo, but I am more concerned about where Venables goes as a HC than what Dabo does. We can play with the Fighting Dabos, they aren’t Bama good, and winning that game last year doesn’t equate to that. Dabo has certainly raised the bar in Clemson, and I respect what he has done/accomplished but you cannot compare that to where Saban has taken Bama. Significantly easier to get your shot if you are in the ACC rather than the SEC, always has been, and still is.

Hope Dabo stays there and rides this success for a while, but it was Venable that made the difference at that program. Give Dabo credit for recognizing what he needed, and also for being a popular face of the program.

I love this kind of “logic”. So because he hasn’t don’e what Saban has, he’s not a great coach?

      • UGA85

Saban is at Bama. Dabo is at Clemson. Clemson, who is traditionally several rungs below UGA, Auburn, etc. in CFB’s pecking order, let alone Bama. Start thinking about what Spurrier did at Florida, and look at Dabo’s situation as analogous. And one person is responsible for Venable’s being at Clemson. That would be Dabo. In fact, the ability to attract, and keep, top assistant coaches is an incredibly important part of a head coaches’ job. I’ve said it before, but I can see some Dabo in Kirby. And that is a good thing.

Or MSU, or UT looking back and ahead.

I’m freaking out, too, Man. We haven’t handled national exposure very well in recent history.

The #6 team in those ratings is interesting … I wonder whether the FEI knows that their quarterback is out for the year.

According to this, Georgia should beat Tennessee by 144 points. I doubt that will happen.

  8. I see Notre Dame going 11-1.

They get USC at home after a bye, and only travel to North Carolina, Miami (the week after the U plays Va Tech), and Stanford (the week after the big game).

10-2 may be more realistic, but it lines up for them to make a run with home games against Miami (OH), NC State, Wake Forest, and Navy scattered among their tougher remaining opponents.

This makes no sense. Stanford and FSU where they are. Can’t put any stock into that with those 2 way up there. Just beat the hell out of Tennessee……

  10. Dawg in Austin

Hard to take this seriously right now when FSU and Stanford are ranked that high. They have looked terrible against top competition.

    • Preseason projected ratings are a function of five-year program ratings, recent recruiting success, and returning offensive and defensive experience, and account for 43 percent of this week’s ratings.

Basically, as the season progresses, the preseason info is steadily diminished.

Heady stuff but I still have concerns about the offense. Kudos to the staff/team for putting together and executing a great plan last week. But we won’t be able to live off of flea-flickers every week.

Also Seeing where Miss State ranks suggests that they were over-hyped for beating a very overrated LSU team. ..

Have a great shot to climb in polls.
Wednesday’s edition of the WSJ has “higher education ranking of US colleges.
Vandy at 21; GT at 53, UF at 58, and A&M at 93. TCU at 179. CMR’s school at 44. Clemson and FSU are ahead of UGA which is 261.
Rest of SEC is below the Dawgs.
Doubtful if the Dolly Llama has a school, much less a degree.
