You guys know I normally don’t make anything out of verbal commitments, because there’s a long time ’til signing day and Laremy Tunsil happens, but in Justin Fields’ case, I’ll make an exception, because Sam Pittman.

    Assuming Natrez Patrick does not travel to Nashville, this is a yuge loss. And the rain chances are growing….our little guys will stagger out onto the field. The pressure, My God, the pressure.

    I can’t remember the last time I was this optimistic about our recruiting. We’ve all watched SO DAMN MANY homegrown stars leave the state and help other teams win big that it’s become second-nature to assume it will happen every year. This feels different. With Fields and Zeus onboard, maybe momentum will propel us to something really special. I’m getting a tad moist.

    Not as long as it used to be. Early signing December 20th to 22nd. Imagine being just about finished with 2018 recruiting before Christmas!

    Awesome news. Of course sports radio is going on about Eason transferring, they say it’s a foregone conclusion. I hope they all stick around and have the time of their lives and I really don’t want to make enemies with any of them.

      I hope he stays, too, but either he sticks to finish his degree, or he loses a year to transfer. I could see him going back to Washington or Wazzou.

        He will be picking apples this summer to strengthen those shoulders up for his future team….could be the Huskies or any west coast team for that matter. Drop back QB days are over in Athens GA…
        Give him credit for keeping his commitment and coming to UGA, but know this, his HS competition was NOTHING compared to these guys in Georgia!

        The best path for Eason would be to double down on school, graduate early, and not be stuck in a redshirt year when he plays as a graduate transfer. He gets to pick his hypothetical transfer school knowing that he doesn’t have to sit a year and be lapped.

        That being said, I still think Eason is the starter by the end of the year

    In fairness, Tunsil never publicly committed. Plus, Fields’ sister is committed on the softball team, so it’s not a giant stretch.

    Fields looks like a player. You put him in as a freshman to run the Wild Dawg, and you won’t hear the Sanford crowd collectively, “What the hell, Chaney!”

    So now we know Smart can recruit at an elite level. Lately, it looks like he can coach too. We have a long way to go, but I am feeling better about them Dawgs than I have in a long time. This is what I expected. Obvious improvement in all areas. It takes time to turn a battleship.

      Yes. I’ve been the same and for the past 5 years there was really not much to like aside from the running backs. Even if we pretend that we don’t know anything other than what we’ve seen on tv, the eye test is alarming all by itself.

        You can talk about development and especially OL recruiting of the previous guy, but with the exception of Reed, every key contributor on the defense was recruited by the previous staff. If you’re only talking about the offense, I can see your perspective.

              I’m not giving credit to the previous guy for anything other than giving Kirby a lot of seasoned (experienced) chicken to work with on defense. Kirby and Tucker have done a hell of a job building a defense since the tech game last year. Give credit where due.
