Game day post… with bullet points!

You know who else loves to point?

uspw_6694030

But I digress.  On to Nashville.

  • I get the whole Kyle Shurmur, “best pure passing quarterback that we have played against”, thing, but he threw the ball 40 times against Florida (45% completion rate, to boot).  Does anybody really think Vanderbilt wins today throwing the ball that much?
  • Ralph Webb is having a subpar season, but it’s not because he’s lost a step or forgotten how to run.  The team as a whole is averaging 2.87 ypc this season.  There’s no blocking.
  • Weirdly enough, though, Vandy is tied for first in the conference in sacks allowed.
  • Combined, I don’t know what that says about what Georgia’s defense up the middle, where it’s missing Thompson, Carter and Patrick, has in store for itself today.  The line didn’t miss a beat in Thompson’s absence last week and I expect that to continue, but it’ll be interesting to see what Georgia’s pass coverage in the flats is like.  This may be a day when Lorenzo Carter is called on to cover a little more than usual.
  • Then again, maybe it’ll be Monty Rice’s coming out party.
  • Remembering the tone set at the start of last year’s game, my ideal beginning today is for Georgia to win the toss, defer and have Blankenship blast the kickoff out of the end zone.
  • In conference play, Georgia, with 36.0 points per game, is fifth in scoring offense; Vanderbilt is eleventh, at 12.0 ppg.  In scoring defense, Georgia in only yielding a point and a half a game, tied with Alabama for first.  Vanderbilt is twelfth, at 48.5 ppg.
  • In plays of 20+ yards, Georgia is second in the SEC, with 28.  Vandy is twelfth, with 17.  In opponent plays of 10+ yards, Georgia’s defense ranks first in the conference, with 34.  Vanderbilt’s has yielded 70.  Nice to see, if you’re a Nick Chubb fan.
  • I think Eason is still too nicked up to start, but not so nicked up that Georgia won’t be reluctant to run Fromm on the read option again this week.
  • Terry Godwin, man.
  • When conventional wisdom works in your favor…
  • My idea of buying in:  this is the first time in I don’t know how long that I’ve picked Georgia to cover the spread as the favorite in back-to-back conference games.  I’m not even nervous about it.

As always, you’re invited to contribute your game day insights in the comments.  (Bullet points are optional.)

Would love to see Zo cover the other MLB spot at times, with Taylor and Rice rotating in based on situation. Love to see Walter Grant more, too. Maybe he can cover the other OLB while Zo is in the middle. Offense should (SHOULD) feast today.

  3. McBride may get some playing time especially since Patrick will be gone for what is it….2nd offense is 4 games? Carter, Patrick and Trent out, time for the younger players to step it up, big hole to fill with those 3 out…..

Regarding Hot Rod: Has anyone else noticed that the few times he doesn’t kick it through the end zone, we have managed to stop the return behind the 25? Usually behind the 20? Hang time is amazing! Coverage is excellent. Special teams have bexaone a weapon y’all. I think this game ends up a lot lie the last two.

I have. And ask any of my friends, I have been among the most obnoxious advocates for the wisdom of kicking it out of the endzone every time if you can. But, as you say, the result have been mostly better when we haven’t.

  7. I’d hate to be a defensive player in the locker room at half. Be interesting to see if this staff can coach them up. I get what Vandy has done in other games but they’re the most balanced offense we’ve faced in conference. For better or worse, we’re also getting defensive secondary questions I’ve had all season answered. All the man coverage doesn’t leave room for mistakes.

I was actually hoping we’d struggle a little today.

Give it up, Eason will be riding the pine as a 2nd stringer as long as Fromm is healty.

Only thing Eason needs the be concerned with….is how many cubes of ice Fromm takes for his Powerade.

Ragging on Eason for no reason. There is not a team in the country that wouldn’t kill to have him. What’s bullshit is we put him in with a backup oline in garbage time. He needs time with the 1s.

I love Fromm and I’m as happy as any dawg that our offense is progressing. But we still have yet to play an elite defense, and imho we need Eason’s arm to have a chance against the likes of Auburn/Bama.

Tongue and cheek comment, certainly you can see that, right?? Besides, I’m not the one bringing up which QB should start all the time (see original post – Senator), but since it gets brought up…I’m certainly gonna give my 2 cents worth. Just don’t let my little ole opinion upset you.

FWIW, Fromm is batting .1000, Eason is .615 (last year). Eason’s QBR was 118.2 a year ago. After Fromm’s game today (201.5), that should put him around 180.0 or so as a QBR. Glad Eason is here…..but why mess up a good thing, we are 6 & 0. Basically this team is the same as last year….with the addition of Fromm. Pretty obvious he is the difference to me. I’m glad Eason is there to back him up, we may indeed need him down the road…but this is Fromm’s team imo, and it is obvious that it is.

Vandy’s QB is excellent. I doubt we’ll see a better passer this year.

Unfortunate Eason had to take his first play almost having his back broken.

Georgia Defense only gave up 7 in reality…Vandy had one offensive play.

Who was worse, Vandy or Tennessee?

Oklahoma was EXPOSED…Iowa St. playing it’s third sting QB.

OK looked half speed after watching UGA.
Hoping CMR and the ‘Canes can beat Free Seafod U..or Free Shoes U….or Forced Sex U…. Just beat their sorry asses.

Eason holds the ball WAY to long, had the same issue last year. Had to have held the ball 5 plus seconds on that play. He had a guy open in the flats, decided to look upfield….this stuff is just killing him.

    Some things I loved:

    (1) Seeing CKS absolutely light into Fromm after he stopped up short on that 3rd down scramble, only to then call his number for the bootleg scamper on 4th and 1.

(Side Prediction: we’ve been carefully evolving that play over the season. Someone soon is going to get popped on a throw to a TE on a drag route with that play as the next step.)

    (2) Seeing Eason throw a couple solid strikes and also recover a fumble after his disastrous first play.

    (3) The UGA crowd.

    Hey, ChiliDawg!

Did Eason start today? I may have missed it.

I bet Eason and Fromm switched jerseys in the locker room before the game because I would have sworn that #11 started the game.

    Good call, Big Guy!!

Seriously, though…I bet Eason starts versus Missouri.

    Because that makes total sense.

I’m not sure why you think you caught me in a “gotcha” moment. I never said Eason would for sure be starting. I just said I believed there was a better chance if it than y’all were willing to admit. And I still think you may see him back on the field at some point.

I’m happy for you though that the most gratification you got from the win today was being able to beat that Jacob Eason didn’t start. Must be a thrilling experience as a fan for you.

No true dawg fan is like that….but I think most want the best player to start. In my judgement, the best QB is starting. Personally IDGAS who that it is, other than the best one. Thinks Kirby is doing just that, starting the best one.

You nailed it, Greg. It’s not about hating on Eason. We need him to be ready in case Fromm gets hurt. It’s about the “fans” who think that Eason should still be starting over Fromm. That makes no sense to me.

          And, Chill…

“I’m happy for you though that the most gratification you got from the win today was being able to beat that Jacob Eason didn’t start. Must be a thrilling experience as a fan for you.”

            Eason:

            1) Tall – looks good (uniform)
            2) Big arm – looks good
            3) Five star – looks good
            4) Handsome kid – looks good

It just makes some feel warm and fuzzy all over. All I care about is results. Improvements have been made all around. I hope Eason stays and improves his game, but this is Fromm’s team for now.

You are the one that keeps bringing it up (original post). I know you want to be right and it is just killing you that you can’t convince some that you are. Why don’t you just let it go and quit bringing it up??? Great blog….but dayum, you are stubborn. Oh well, your cross to bear. I’m sensing a lot of projection here.

Just giving it back (“stings”), I think it is hilarious. Would think you were smart enough that know when you were being mocked. You can certainly dish it out, but you have a tough time when you get it back. If you do not like it, my advice would be to stop with the attacks. You probably should stop now…you are embarrassing yourself, you look foolish…..but continue if you must, I’m kinda enjoying this…..
