“It’s fun when you win.”

My two favorite post-game quotes from yesterday:

Chubb, when asked whether Georgia’s 423-rushing yard performance showed the identity of the team, grinned at the reporter.

“We want to run the ball,” Chubb said. “And I think you know that.”

Then Chubb giggled. Yes. Giggled.

Nick Chubb, giddy.  Actually, that’s a little scary.

Five different Georgia players had carries in the first half and Gaillard maybe should have been credited for one when he pushed the pile for five yards on one first-half run.

“I told them, hey, I got at least four yards on that myself,” Gaillard said.

I said the exact same thing watching that play.

I could get used to this kind of happy talk.

Mizzou, the bye week, then reality. That 5 game closing stretch is going to be one hell of a ride.

It definitely was a fun day. So proud of the bulldog nation. I haven’t seen this much excitement in our fanbase in a long long time. The Nashville bars were red last night. Safe travels to all Dawgs fans headed home in the weather today. Go Dawgs

Would like to see a little improvement in the passing game but the rushing game has definitely arrived. Thought there was a little let down early on defense and apparently Kirby did too. Got to stay focused. Before anybody gets excited, this is not a complaint, just an observation. We are certainly better than we were even a few weeks ago.

Would like to see Eason in a good bit against Mizzou for this reason..

(And before someone has a stroke, I agree Fromm is playing very well. I am elated with his progress The kid is a football player and a strong leader. He loves being out there..and is enjoying finding ways to move the offense. However, I honestly MEAN it when I say I want them both to excel )
We need to have Eason in for a few series with the first team..not to hand the ball off but to throw it deep…very deep and to get his legs under him. This will give us a big advantage when we get behind the eight ball with a team with a strong defense. They will have to respect the deep ball when Eason comes in and that will free up the running game and the short passing game. Plus, the kid is an injury away from being the starter. Need to get him some real playing time. I don’t care how much some of you want to low rate him…we will need him sooner or later. Right now he just looks beat down and the work would pick him up…and ease our concerns should Fromm get hurt, or get the flu, etc.
Again..don’t have a cow..I’m nothing but elated with Fromm..but we need Eason to get some real time and settle down.

We had the chance to give him some real time against Vandy. First play he once again couldn’t get the ball out on time, was hesitant and got sacked, fumbled and gave Vandy a TD. His inability to make a read and commit to the throw is a big problem.

I’m sure the defense was real happy about that.

Oh and Fromm throws a more accurate deep ball so I’m not sure why you mention Eason getting in there to throw it deep. You want to see a few long incompletions???

Anybody that doesn’t see that Jake Fromm is the quarterback is in my opinion an idiot. Jacob Eason doesn’t have the “if” factor that Fromm does. And does anyone on here actually have the balls to say that Jake Fromm can’t make the throws that Eason can? I mean really guys that’s just stupid. The last time we won a national championship was with a guy ( BucK Belue) who a lot of people said wasn’t a good passer however he was a WINNER from his days in high School. Make your Peace with It, Fromm is the starting QB and Eason will probably transfer.

I bet Kirby feels quite the moron now. Makes you wonder why he bothers pretending there’s still a QB competition in weekly practice.

Kirby has stated several times that they don’t name starters at any position during the week; that all positions are up for competition. I’m sure he means that but they start implementing the gameplan for Saturday on Monday (or more likely on Sunday). You know they have to already have a starting quarterback in mind when they begin. I find it hard to believe that on Wednesday, Kirby or Chaney would change their mind based on a couple of days of practice.

And keep this in mind…Eason didn’t come in until we were up 45-7 in the 4th quarter this past Saturday. I’m not an expert but that came off to me like Kirby and Chaney have no intention of letting Eason start anytime soon. If they were, I would think Eason would have come in a lot earlier than that.

              • I think some of you are misinterpreting my comments on the subject. I am not taking the position that Eason deserves to start over Fromm. But I do think that Kirby is shooting straight when he says that every job is up for grabs and is evaluated on a weekly basis. Eason hasn’t shown enough to justify unseating Fromm; for all I know, he may never show enough.

As far as implementing a game plan, I really don’t think a change would have a huge enough impact during a week to prevent it from happening.

Senator, I didn’t mean that literally and in my humble opinion if the QB competition was that close Eason would be getting more playing time. To my admittedly untrained eye the difference in “field presence” between Fromm and Eason if night and day.

I agree with you but our fan base has turned on Eason as though he were a terrorist. It’s really remarkable.

It’s only a lunatic fringe that has turned. Everyone cheered in Nashville when he came in on both series.

I’ve been saying the same Re: the passing game but I a lot of fans are convinced that we can just follow the Bama model for success. We’ll see.

Amen brother. Yesterday during the game one of my buddies was sitting there talking about how the defense had finally looked like it was coming back down to earth. I pointed out to him that it was 45-7 and that Candy would be lucky to have much over 100 yards rushing. We are already getting used to the new normal.

Amen again. The D gave up a first half score, but was otherwise completely focused, even though down a few important players. The TD that came after Eason got clobbered (who was playing LT there?) was very nearly stuffed at the one yard line. In fact, it was pushed back for 3 downs. They ain’t letting anything in easy, but sometimes shit happens. I thought Eason looked good going 3/3 with mostly the 2s. I would like to see him play about half the Mizzou game (some with the 1s) if only because we should have that luxury available and it would be nice to see a bigger sample size of how he is doing. He might be needed in Jax, Auburn, etc.

That was a corner blitz and on Eason to recognize. The LT wasn’t to blame.

Recognize it and do what? Someone has to block that guy. Kirby said that it was his (Kirby’s) fault for calling that play, but the only thing Eason could have done better there was cover and hold on to the ball. His fault for not seeing it coming, I guess.

Eason sets his O players and notes who isn’t being covered. He can change the signal accordingly or run towards the right for a run action pass. He simply stood there for a long time after seeing that his receivers were covered. His fumble recovery in our next series made up for the faux pas.

With that gift, that was the second (maybe third?) one that is in the records book that this D doesn’t deserve. That would lessen the D’s pts/game allowed down at least two more pts., so they are better than the stats show.

True..those scores aren’t on the D..and note that it took Vandy four plays to get it in from the 1. I was impressed with that..and done without Trentasaurous Rex on our DL.

But Eason needs some game time to get his sea legs. He’s just not comfortable out there, whereas Fromm seems to have been born to be out there. Maybe against Mizzo he can get some meaningful snaps.

Throw the ball on time. He double clutches twice. Ball should’ve been out by the time the blitzing CB got to him. Pretty simple.

They’re killing us for not being balanced and not throwing the ball. But i don’t feel like it’s because we can’t, Jake is doing quite well there i feel like… I don’t know why we’d throw it more than 10-15 times if this continues.

The worry is that at some point it might break (FL, AU, Bama?). It would be nice to have plan B ready before that point in time.

Russ, you know, at some point ANYTHING can break. Hell, at some point, anything WILL break. The run-till-they-stop-it-and-pass-to-keep-them-honest-or-score-a-home-run approach seems as durable as any. Let’s run that till somebody breaks it. If they do? That’s what halftime adjustments are for.

      Agreed. Don’t change the strategy.

But why not throw it around some after the outcome is known? We’ll probably have to chuck it against Auburn and Bama.

AP Poll just placed us 4th. Well, now that we are where we have wanted to be for several years, what do we do now besides win out?

Watched the others..only ‘Bama is clearly ahead of us. It’s what’s behind us in a few weeks…over in Lapland..(where west Georgia laps over into Alabama) that really is starting to concern me. The WLOCP should be a win, but we’ve said that before. Auburn is solid on both sides da ball. KY is entertaining and NATS is pesky. Going to take a solid focused effort to win them all, but we’ve got the chance!

Perception of an opponent’s team, it seems to me, would influence our resolve to beat them. All you need is a premise that validates their ass can be beaten to spur that resolve. If you haven’t come to the conclusion that we can beat Bama with great resolve, then telling you that it would take less resolve for Auburn won’t hit the mark either.

This team can beat Auburn and Bama if all the circumstances align to field the ones with the greatest heart.

I will try to let this be the last time I say this. I have watched all of Florida’s games this year and nothing about them concerns me. They want no part of this defense. Trent will be back for that game. Kirby will have the boys ready. I honestly think we are going to beat Florida pretty bad. I understand it is the Cocktail Party and I am well aware of the history but I think we are two programs in two completely different places and for the first time in a long time we are the team operating on a higher level while they are on the outside looking in. They needed a last second miracle to beat the Tennessee team we destroyed. The Vanderbilt team we just man handled played them a lot tougher. Florida does not worry me. Bring them on. I hope we get a few hours worth of retribution on those turds and I think we will.

Would have said the exact same thing before watching UF v LSU yesterday. Even in losing and not looking particularly good doing it, I saw enough good athletes that if we don’t have the right mindset or have 4 or 5 turnovers we might get beat. I want to know our team doesn’t just want to win in Jax but crush UF if we get the chance.

Like I said, Kirby will have them ready. Everything that has happened up to now this season makes me confident of that. Four or five turnovers would get us beat against anybody. I don’t see us doing that. And I guess I missed the part of that game yesterday that made them look scary. I know they have athletes. We have more. And did you see how undisciplined they are? The db of theirs hauling off and slapping the LSU player? If we get things going and start pounding on them I think there is a chance they just self destruct.

If you remember last year, we started hot and had Florida on their heals until the figured out we couldn’t block their DL. Then, Eason almost got killed. (Oh, I’m sure that was all Eason’s fault.)

With our OL and healthy running attack, we should grind then down. Kirby has the team playing with the right attitude.

Speaking of Gaillard, he has quietly become a damned good center, even if he is undersized. When Kindley is in there with him, we seem to be able to open some holes. The whole group is better than they were six weeks ago, still not dominant, but they are able to get some creases for our stud RBs to work through. They will have to get better to give us much running room against AU and Bama, but we have some time. If not, we have a passer that seems capable of backing some of their LBs and DBs away from the LOS.

This is a Larry Munson/Vince Dooley alert: We will be playing Mizzou this week. They can throw the ball pretty damn good. What they can’t do is run it. The Mizzou KY game was an air attack game. They will get us ready for the Gayturds big arm, fast receiver game. Vandy’s QB could throw but he had no talent at WR to match UF. Let’s worry about Mizzou since they have a history of beating us in our house. I don’t want us to have to beat these guys in the last minute like last year, I’m getting used to relaxing in the second half.
