“We didn’t play worth a crap on defense.”

The coaches and the team may not be happy with their collective effort against Vanderbilt, which, I might add, still led to the ‘Dores being held to 236 yards on the day, but I can’t say I’m going to get too worked up over stats like these:

I assume you know what first in the conference means.  If the Dawgs are on par with Alabama in those defensive areas, I’ll take that in a heartbeat.

“We made a lot of mistakes on the defensive side of the ball, so we have to get in and correct those,” said inside linebacker Roquan Smith, who had a game-high seven tackles. “We didn’t play to our standard, but we got better throughout the game.”

I’m glad Roquan’s not satisfied, though.

It’s not Willie’s defense. The culture change in Athens is amazing.

  2. The defense did not play well in the 1st half. We were gashed a few times, didn’t set the edge consistently, and let them hit plays in the passing game. I thought they played well in the 2nd half based on what I saw. The 2nd team defense tried like crazy to keep them out after the turnover. Yesterday was the day to have an “off day.”

This (above) plus coaches always evaluate more strictly after a win in order to prevent over-confidence. The grading is more lenient after a loss because egos are already bruised enough from the defeat.

Totally agree — I wonder how much of that was due to Patrick’s absence coming so late in the week — as well as having both TT and Reggie Carter out. Seemed like communication wasn’t quite there and the players were slightly out of sync. Totally agree the 2nd half looked much better.

Taylor seemed slow to catch is rhythm in the first couple of series but really hit another gear after that and played very well. He and his backup played well when they got rolling, should minimize missing Patrick after another game’s experience against Mizzou. The speed of those two, along with Roquan will be needed against Mizzou’s quick throws next week.

Thinks this is a GREAT defense, but don’t think they played great….played a little flat imo. I think they missed Trenton, didn’t seem to miss a beat at the linebacker position (Patrick). Overall, would give them a A-.

Offense has really improved, still glad to see they are #1 in redzone….tremendous improvement (also PPG). I honestly think that the O’ keeps getting better…..3 drops, need to hang on to the ball! Team is still peaking imo………Kirby keeping’em humble.

      “3 drops”.

Not sure if Hardman is gonna make it at WR. Can’t catch the ball! His future might be PR/CB, unless he turns it around soon.

Could be right…still thinks he has tremendous potential at WR. More between the ears than anything else (catching) imo. Glad to see Fromm keep going back to him to try and overcome this. He has made some good catches this year, just not consistent. Hopefully, it works…hard to teach speed. Thinks he is gonna bust a couple before the season is over, either at reciever or as a returner.

About ready to surrender on the Mecole slot experiment, we have games coming up where we cannot afford passes being routinely dropped in crucial situations. Kid is a burner, like the Joystick was, but he cannot get yardage for us with out first getting a handle on the football. We have some other burners, time for next man up, there has been plenty of patience with this.

If I were Kirby, I’d have Natrez sit in the middle of the practice fields and peel onions the entire time they are out there. We need all hands on deck starting with UF (after we dispatch Mizzou).

    Defense travels.
Not sure if Malcolm Parrish was on the traveling squad. His play on their first scoring drive was not good. Beaten twice…7 points.
Dare say Eason seems to have some confidence issues. Slow. Can he not speed up his game. Know he has been injured. How much time he spends on the field rest of this season does not look good for him.
Bigger games now on the road schedule…Florida, Auburn, and Tech.
    Pass rush? Thompson?

Shout out to Coach Richt for his return to Tallahassee and Noles.
Great win in closing seconds against Noles.
Did he not make some good calls and use the clock well.
Once again though, penalty after a late score for celebration.
CMR could be turning the recruiting tide in the Sunshine state against Gators and Noles.

It’s astonishing how good the defense is at tackling. When I watch other games, especially LSU-Fl, they look terribly sloppy for all the missed tackles/slow reaction stuff. Makes us fun to watch again.

OK, I’ll bring up the subject of the elephant in the room. Does Eason have an attitude problem? Morose is the best description that seems to describe his approach to getting on the field and he is just plain glum while sitting on the sidelines.

Yeah, I know that sounds insensitive, but he has control over such feelings and ,yeah, I wouldn’t feel swell in his place while watching something you have prepared for so long go south in front of thousands of people. Makes me think that he doesn’t agree with any coaches who certainly are telling him he is wanted and that we may depend entirely on him when he is one Fromm injury from returning to his place he had for a year. Damn, man, get into the game by cheering for those who are making your spot the most sought after position in CFB right now. Your team needs you to focus.

Btw, isn’t he responsible for setting the O and calling attention to the uncovered LB on the edge, the one that got him from the blindside? Just don’t think his head is completely into the game when he goes in on mop-up duty.

Were you at the game? I never saw Eason on TV except when he was on the field. Not sure I heard the announcers talk about his attitude or demeanor either, but to be fair, I was trying to drown them out. If the did mention Eason, I’m sure they mispronounced his name. Tubs STILL calls Bellamy ” Davd”.

Fickle UGA fans have been trashing Eason for weeks now and you refer to it as the elephant in the room? More like a dead horse. Glad you decided to pick up a bat and join the crowd, I don’t think there were enough people landing blows.

I noticed after the fumble that Eason was pretty much alone on the sidelines, didn’t see teammates coming over to make sure he was alright. Seemed a little strange to me.

Cojones, I agree totally. It just seems to me that Fromn is more focused for the task at hand than Eason. When you lose your teammates respect your in trouble.(Eason)

Flonase and Claritin can only do so much against ragweed and goldenrod. I’ll appreciate you using less culturally insensitive insults in the future.

I was at the game and noticed Eason’s behavior. He seems like a loner, by himself, not engaged, and he was among the first to leave the field afterwards. It is hard to not be the man when you’ve been the man all your life. Is it really about the team, or is it about his feelings? For some reason, I don’t think Fromm would have the attitude issues Eason has if the shoe were one the other foot.

Was noticed by several posters I have seen elsewhere, both his demeanor on the sidelines and his early departure during the post-game celebration with the team. Hope it isn’t a serious attitude issue, like the TN QB exhibited against GT earlier this year, but it is true he has probably never been the guy on clean up duty, some don’t adjust well to that. I think there is some truth to this given the way Kirby went to him during the game to personally explain the plan before he came in, and that he went to talk to him directly after the game, even before he went to shake Mason’s hand.

We need him to step up and be prepared in the event we really need him to come in, just like Jake was prepared and ready when he went down against Appy. Shit is getting real over the next few weeks.

I’m starting to worry he might make a mid season transfer. Highly recruited QB’s no longer hang around if the chance of starting isn’t a good possibility. With Fromm starting now( and only solidifying his position) and Fields on the way, I’d imagine both he and dad are weighing their options. I read where the 5 start kid that transferred mid season at Alabama was granted an appeal to be eligible for the whole season this year. If that becomes a norm, it’ll be hard to keep multiple quality QB’s , especially within the same class. I too noticed Eason’s change in demeanor which put this whole thing in my head. What you’d hope would happen, is that every kid would step up their game and compete, making everyone better. I’m just getting a bad vibe with this particular situation.

Said it in earlier posts, but Shumur is a very, very good QB.. Best we’ll see as a pure passer and cool as a cucumber. Vandy’s line protected him very well to. That, and giving them a first and goal at the 1, accounted for some of the defensive numbers being a little off…and Thompson’s absence was a big deal. Hoping he is back for UF… Don’t think Patrick’s missing made any difference.
