“Having played both teams, Alabama’s the better team.”

The only profound thing about Derek Mason’s observation comparing Alabama and Georgia is that he said it plainly, instead of garbling it with a bunch of mushy coachspeak.

You know, like Booch’ll do after this weekend.

Did Tony Barnhart prepare Mason’s quote?

Fair analysis with no disagreement here. Bama’s secondary indeed is much better than ours (as is their interior OL), with the rest mostly being a push. We really could use a few more talented CB’s, and I know we’re after a couple of big time 4-5 star CB’s for the ’18 class.

So to clarify, you are saying that Alabama is better than Georgia right now? Please hold for this news flash…This just in, water has been discovered to be wet! The best part of the linked article was Davin saying, “…even tough we don’t have a game this Saturday we need to make sure we get better, and make sure people don’t keep putting 28 on our head.”. Now this I can buy into. We all know that Bama is the better program right now. What I want to beat the living fool out of the Gators in two weeks and then move on. I am thoroughly enjoying this team and this season and I am savoring each weekend like a fine glass of bourbon. Why rush things? Sit back with your bourbon and cigar and enjoy the moment!

Legitimately can’t wait to hear Butch Jones answer that question, because the only thing he’s really good for anymore is a great press conference quote.

While I don’t disageee with him, I find that everyone in the SEC East from coaches to fans are reluctant to acknowledge Georgia for what they are right now. They’re comfortable living in the world where Alabama is king and everyone else is living in it, but uncomfortable with the notion that someone else could challenge them, and that it’s not them.

Plus this quote smacks of another sour grapes comment I recall. Not a public one but my uncle lived next door to the parents of one of the players from that 2007 Hawaii team, who I was told said “Georgia wasn’t the toughest team we played [that] year.”

Let’s face it: In order to get to the playoffs, an SEC team is going to have to beat Alabama. I don’t see that happening anytime soon. As pleased as I am with the Dawgs, I don’t think they are there yet.
Now, let’s get back to the business at hand, beating the shit out of Florida. I mean a Biblical, walls of Jericho, trumpets, lamenting women, sackcloth and ashes kind of ass whoopng. They have it coming………

Why? Because no SEC team has ever beaten Alabama? You guys are killing me with this mewling deference to Alabama. We were within a whisker of beating them a few years ago, and we didn’t have the depth of talent that we have now. You know you can flip the narrative around and it works just the same – to get into the playoff, Alabama is going to have to beat Georgia.

You guys have it all wrong. I’m not locked in here with you. You’re locked in here with me! – Rorschach

Agree Chili. Based on what we have seen so far, Mason is right that this Georgia team is not quite as good from as Alabama’s, but it isn’t like they should just cancel the rest of the season. Fortunately, Kirby has seen several “unbeatable” Alabama teams go down over the years and knows how fragile greatness is.

I would not be shocked (just surprised) if Auburn beat Alabama.

And we are a better team than that Ole Miss team that beat Bama as well. Of course it is winnable, but we have to get there first. It will be considered an upset, but we honestly don’t know who is the better team in 2017. We are not playing those Bama teams from the past, and they are not playing a past UGA team. Let’s tee it up and see, if we play like what we have seen so far, we should be competitive.

“Mewling deference”? That’s a little strong, ya think? I was snarking on Mr. Conventional Wisdom a little, but……
You’re saying Alabama isn’t the team to beat in the SEC right now? What’s not correct in my statement? An SEC team WILL have to beat Alabama to get into the playoffs. From the East in the SECG or the West during the season. Could it happen? Sure. Is Georgia the team to do it? Maybe. I don’t think we are there. My point is, we haven’t beaten Florida yet (something I would really like to see; refer to earlier comment) or Auburn. Or Kentucky, or South Carolina. We still get to enjoy a lot of Bulldog football, and I am seriously enjoying it the way they are playing now. I’ll worry about Bama IF and when we get to see them in the SECG.
P.S. apologies for being testy. I DID NOT go to Waffle House for lunch. 🙂
