You know what David Wunderlich’s lengthy analysis of this year’s Florida team reminded me of?
The offense is boring and predictable. The defense isn’t as good as it’s been most of the last 30 years. The return game is not producing big plays and the coverage units are bad.
Mark Richt’s last season at Georgia. Read the whole thing and tell me I’m wrong.
I’m just amazed that in the “fixes” section, he didn’t list: 1) Hire a full-time Special Teams coach and 2) Build an Indoor Practice Facility

Ranked 7th in total defense, and three TDs in the return game is not bad.

Coach Richt’s last season was such a forgettable year of football. They were just not exciting to watch, even in the wins. And last year featured some pretty pedestrian football as well.
Man, this season is making up for all of that. Big time.

That was the first time in as long as I’ve been a fan that I just tuned out for the majority of the season. Apathy ran deep that year.

I will never forget the UGA-Mizzou game in 2015 no matter how much I try. Neither team could score a TD, even when Mizzou started at the UGA 1 yard line. That was the worst college football game I have ever attended.

My favorite quote out of that sounded just like what a lot of us were saying all last season (emphasis added):
“The thing is, Florida has been trying to have Alabama’s offense from 2008–13. This makes sense because it employs the offensive coordinators from those teams. However, Alabama itself doesn’t want to have that offense anymore. It has moved beyond that and has increasingly spread the field since 2014.”

You’re wrong, Bluto.
I-Mac was doing magic in the return game.
No, but seriously, folks, I feel their pain. Or, at least, I felt their pain, now I want to continue to cause it.

I don’t see the Richt comparison. He didn’t complain that McE should have had the foresight to oversign in the face of 9 player suspensions plus injuries. They are not using the grad transfer QB to just be a manager and win 10 games. Their DC is not disruptive despite fielding a competent D. McE did not dive in a pool, just humped a shark…is that the same? He has not been accused of stealing money for their performance and losing his focus over his wife’s health concerns. Not the same.
Of course, he has won the SECE twice, so that’s another point that doesn’t match.

Plus, this is close to their situation last year when we went in favored and didn’t do very well. They will play like ND, at least in the first half.

Didn’t see this, but pretty sure that’s him cruising around town in his Lincoln during the wee hours dressed to the nines and mumbling to himself.

Except that we didn’t have 9 players missing. 2013 was our year missing a lot of players.

Yeah, self-loathing fans of pretty much every team say that all the time, all around the country. We’re not different in that regard.

Not totally different, but definitely worse. We have about 5% of our fans that are obsessive haters and need therapy compared to other fan bases with just a few Updykes. Don’t ever think this is normal behavior. It shows when you have been around them too much. Some times I think they have all ended up here because you don’t see this anywhere else. Some certainly wanted a change, but no others hated…and still do.

No, that would be Tennessee. Hands-down, no contest.

I have no sympathy for their missing playmakers. They should have rid themselves of Callaway a long time ago. Perhaps if they had, the bad seed wouldn’t have spread. Once Meyer learned that lesson, he had to fake a heart attack to get out of the cesspool he created.
Perhaps Mac’s shark fetish is his setup to get out?

And a lot of kick. Here’s how business partner Marty Hurwitz describes the sauce:
“Perfume for the mouth. Sweet at first, then tangy and finally a kick at the end.”

In fairness – there were multiple defenses in the 30 years prior to 2015 that were way worse than that one, so not a completely spot on comparison.
That said- the opening line definitely summed up the Georgia fanbase for like the last six years of Mark Richt’s tenure:

2015 UGA’s defense was pretty good, though. Dragged that team to 10 wins.

Kinda feel bad for McElwain. Landed a gig that pays huge, inherited some pretty good talent, won 2 division titles, achieved lifelong dream of humping a shark. Seems like it all went bad virtually over night. The day comes when that docile shark turns, and things just aren’t the same anymore.
