Game day sampler post

There may not be a Georgia game to brighten our lives today, but college football soldiers on without.  In the meantime, here are a few games of interest:

Louisville

12:00 PM

A battle of contenders for the CFP … top ten teams fighting to make the ACC championship game … ranked programs … ah, the hell with it.

Tennessee

3:30 PM

The SEC Blowout on CBS returns.  Uncle Verne is out there somewhere laughing his ass off about it.

Syracuse

#8Miami

3:30 PM

Syracuse looked well prepared knocking off Clemson.  Can they repeat the effort?

Kentucky 4:00 PM

My head tells me Kentucky is going to get exposed today, but I have to admit there are a lot of pundits out there picking the ‘Cats in a straight upset.

#24LSU 7:15 PM

Somebody needs to officially dub this the Chicken-on-a-Stick Bowl pronto.  Imagine what the trophy would look like.

#19Michigan

7:30 PM

Can’t say I’m convinced Penn State is the second best team in the country, but I have little doubt they’ll outscore Michigan tonight.

#11USC

7:30 PM

If you’re a Georgia fan, another Notre Dame win would look pretty good.

#21Auburn

7:30 PM

Believe it or not, this is Arkansas’ conference home opener.  I don’t think that’s gonna help Bert.

You witty banter and keen insight is welcomed all day in the comments.

For some reason I have a gut feeling Michigan beats Penn St. I feel like Penn St is a one trick pony and hasn’t faced any decent competition. But it’s nothing more than “my” gut feeling so I guess they should still go on and play the game.

He’s a pretty good “pony” and I agree with your assessment.

Maybe it’s because I hate PSU (for several reasons), but I can’t stand to watch them. They look (again, I hate ’em so my picture is blurry) kind of slow to me. I believe they are grossly over-rated.. I hope they are, but I hate Michigan too..so meteor game it is for me.

Wife is from State College. I’ve watched every game this year. Offense is very much reliant on Barkley, but their defense can play. We would be a bad match up for them.

Thank you, Senator! And go Notre Dame and Mississippi State! As for Louisville/FSU, come on meteor. Kill them all and God won’t even have to sort them out, because they’re all awful.

And how in the hell is Arky just now getting around to playing its first conference game at home? That can’t be helping their attendance, though I don’t know if they’ve got any problem on that front and don’t care enough about the Hogs to research it.

Sorry but I can’t make myself root for notre dame, I hate friggin’ notre dame. The Dawgs just need to keep on winning and notre dame won’t matter.

You share those sentiments with a lot of Dawg fans. I agree with you.

Dude, they are debris in our wake at this point. I want them to win every game they play this year. They already lost the only one that mattered.

Not only that. If it comes down to a 1 loss ND and a 1 loss UGA from Bama in the Championship game. UGA will lose a chance at a bid and it will go to ND. They will not take 2 non-conference champions in one season.

How many points does it take to save Bootch’s job?

    And go Bizzaro Bulldogs.

Does Louisville wear new helmets every game? Those things are spendy and I hope the used ones go somewhere that needs them.

I’m in the road to Dallas and listening to Texas-Oklahoma State. Texas announcers are good and Dona great job painting the picture without too much overt homerism. Sometimes it’s fun just to listen to a game.

Texas reminds me of us last year. Freshman QB and an OL that can’t block anyone, plus a decent defense.

Oh, and Mullet Mike is a jackass along the lines of Corch in my book.

Mike Gundy is clearly having a mid life crisis of epic proportions. His hair looks idiotic and that video of him taking his shirt off at the pep rally was ridiculous. I’d be shocked if he wasn’t fraternizing with college girls.

I’m from Texas, and not a fan of Gundy. I pretty much hate the OK state on principle. That said, Gundy’s mullet is designed to shame his kids, and it’s hard to hate a man who doesn’t take all this nonsense quite so seriously.

I get that a ND win looks good on us, but damned if I want to play them again this year!

Thought they were legit on defense when we played them, and that seems to be playing out since then. Great hire of the Wake DC, significant change from the past few years. I wouldn’t mind playing them again, not that we will, our defense smothered them and we were sitting on our offense in that game. We would win by a TD or better in a rematch, imo. Glad they are playing well, wish Hardman hadn’t dropped that TD pass as we should won by more.

What is impressive is to look at their offensive production in every other game but UGA and see just how we shit them down.

Somebody on here was asking about the Herschel-patented “leaping dive over the pile on the goal line” play here the other day. It’s alive and well in Tuscaloosa.

Man, refs are working overtime for Bama today. I guess it’s okay since it screws Booch, but still…

Someone help me out. I swear several weeks back I saw a stat, and now I can’t find it. It was UGA was 73-0 when ranked in the top ten facing an unranked foe. I’ve searched everywhere and can’t find it.

Richt still has the same problems he always has. His teams lack the killer instinct to put teams away. Nearly gave it away again tonight. Gonna bite them soon.

Well, Michigan got the turnover and touchdown they needed to keep from being run out of the stadium (for now, anyway), and USC just blew their chance to keep it from getting away from them. Oh, and Arkansas is kind of giving Auburn a game so far.

Between the Tennessee player’s big double-bird moment in the national spotlight and Jimbo Fisher wanting to whip a fan’s ass, not the best Saturday for either team, optically. And neither team could exactly afford bad optics of any kind, given their respective circumstances.

A flea-flicker with no receivers running a route, a double-bird on a pick-six off the backup, no offensive TDs in 14 quarters, and a promise of 35 magical days of Tennessee football.

And people said it was going to be a boring game.

Was also struck by the Bama performance, they are excellent, but not so overwhelming that we cannot compete with them if we are “on”. Granted, I have only seen them in this game, the A&M game, and a partial look at the FSU game. Doesn’t mean they shouldn’t be the favorite, but the gap is getting closed as the season goes along.

Anyone notice that Missouri kicked a field goal with a 65-14 lead in the 4th quarter yesterday? Wonder what the story was with that.

I don’t know but between the targeting of Mecole, the way their guys were kicking ours when they were down, just their general demeanor, I hope we crush them a lot worse next year. They seem to want everybody to think they might just do anything if you make them mad.
