If somebody asks you why the SEC is down, just say…

… it’s the coaching, stupid.

Three SEC coaches out of seven on that list, and Stoops is the lowest paid of the three at just under $4 million a year.

    Gonna miss Bert being at arky. Booch, I’ve thoroughly enjoyed the meltdown.

    Thing is, with the new early signing period any replacement HC taking one of these (probable) openings is going to be at a huge disadvantage. Imagine having 50% or more of the recruits off the table on the day you start the job. You’d be fighting over scraps on the 2nd signing day in February.

    Unless a team has good returning talent, a very easy schedule, or a new HC that is the ultimate coach-em-up guru, some schools are looking at having a new HC struggling mightily for at least the first 2 or 3 years. In other words, don’t expect a quick return to perceived prominence at any of these schools.

    These coaches do have to go but when are the administrators going to get smart and realize that it’s the dumb-ass AD’s who are hiring these idiots and get some competent people in to do the job. Maybe then the SEC can get back to where it should be.

    Head coaches seem to be failing to create or choose an identity and philosophy for how they want to play, believe in it and stick to it. They hire coordinators and turn everything over to them and the revolving door of these coordinators and other assistants creates constant transition. Too many offenses wanting to spread out and not block anybody is a huge problem. Also few teams enjoy full senior classes year after year.

    Siting how poor a Kentucky coach’s poor record, is hardly evidence that the SEC is down.

    I think that is EXACTLY the reason. Some bad misses on coaches by these programs and that’s not all of them on that list.

    BTW can we petition to keep Butch a few more years?

    It’s crazy that Mason isn’t on that list. Honestly, if I’m one of those programs, I’d think about hiring him away from Vandy.
