SEC Power Poll, Week 9

secpowerpoll2008_medium

Another week with lots of byes, so there’s not too much shaking up going on in the rankings.

  1. Alabama.  I’m just curious to know how many of those pundits who are arguing that the Tide isn’t the top team in the country would be willing to put real money on it.
  2. Georgia.  The Dawgs are outscoring conference opposition by 32 points a game.
  3. Auburn.  Didn’t play, but it’s not like anyone else in the SEC made the Tigers look worse for it.
  4. Mississippi State.  Still hasn’t played in a conference game with a margin of less than three touchdowns.
  5. LSU.  I know they’re gonna try to sell this week’s game with Alabama, but Coach O versus Nick Saban?
  6. Texas A&M.  With Auburn and LSU still remaining, the odds of TAMU reaching nine wins look slim indeed.
  7. South Carolina.  Boom endures.
  8. Florida.  The Gators have lost three straight conference games and opened as a two-point underdog against Missouri.
  9. Kentucky.  The ‘Cats are 6-2 with a +2 point differential.  That’s hard to do.
  10. Arkansas.  Bert’s boys take the lead in the King of the SEC Dipshits race.
  11. Missouri.  The Tigers have scored 120 points in their last two games and play three straight conference opponents that are offensively challenged.
  12. Mississippi.  The post-Patterson sinking begins.
  13. Tennessee.  There is no more perfect metaphor for the Vols’ season than completing a Hail Mary that winds up three yards short of the end zone.
  14. Vanderbilt.  Remember back when some people thought Vandy might give Alabama a game?

  2. Unfortunately for the Dawgs Boom does more than endure ,he is doing a good bit with not the greatest talent. Losing Samuels cost them any real chance to be competitive but it looks like the cocks believe and that is half the battle. I’m not saying the sky is falling or predicting a lose only that they will be able to keep it closer than most. And Mizzou favored over the Gators I may have to lose some money on that one. Pigs are flyin and goats are breathing fire …all signs of the end times.

USCe is the second best team in the SEC East. Given the condition of the FU and UT programs that may become the status quo for awhile. South Carolina may become Georgia’s biggest division rival at least for the near term. Oh, and Boom isn’t as bad a HC as a lot of people (me included) thought. He probably should have had a different HC job first before taking on FU. Things might have worked out differently for him in Gainesville if he had.

USCe barely beat Tennessee and Vanderbilt. Boom ain’t doing that great. It’s an illusion.

We win by 21, at least. Sackerlina is as good as they can be, but their ceiling is a lot lower than ours. This team doesn’t play down to the opposition.

Believe me, I know how SC has been a tough out for decades, believe me. Look at our defense and tell me they don’t just devour SC. And, while our offense is defensible, it’s not defensible for 60 minutes. It could be a tight game for a quarter or two, but the cocks are going to run out of motivation eventually during that game. All the tests have been passed and this team is not going to come out flat against anyone this year.

Mullen comes home to Florida, doesn’t he? It seems to be in the cards. He’s exactly what they need and want and the close ties to Striklin make it a natural fit.

I was going to say, “and, Mullen wouldn’t have to compete with Saban anymore for the West.” Ha, he would have to complete with Smart for this division and that looks to be about the same challenge going forward!

I’d put up with Kiffin’s offense for a few years just to see the shit show in Gainesville if he is hired.

This might be interesting. Stories are out there that Mrs. Mullen did not like Gainesville at all, and Mullen is getting close to “lifetime contract” status at MSU. Mullen turning down the Gators would be glorious.

Funny how teams that can’t get a W in the SEC were able to manage it against middle of the pack ACC and B12 teams. But hey, it’s the Tide, Dawgs, and 12 clown cars, right?

Spot on analysis about Mississippi State. They’re either beating the crap out of teams or they’re getting the crap beat out of them. I think it’s all over for Sumlin at aTm.

Don’t know what to make of Auburn. Are they,
    1. A crouching tiger waiting to spring upon UGA and delight ESPN?
    2. A ho-hum, pretty good team that UGA will beat after some angst?
    (see Notre Dame)
    3. A team UGA will beat handily?

I’m thinking #s2. Auburn is better than we think but not a real huge threat as long as we continue to play on a high level.

Also, I think Mizzo loses to UF.

Auburn is my next worry. They seem to have an offense that can test our defense, and their defense might give us problems as well. We might be in their heads, though.

Make no mistake. Auburn has legit talent especially on defense. Everyone was down on the after the Clemson loss but they were AT Clemson and held them to 14 points. If Stidham can do ANYTHING UGA -AUB will be a WAR.

There is still hope that the Vols will lose to Vandy and occupy the SEC cellar.

Mizzou could very well win its last 4 games and with a bowl win pull out a respectable season.

I actually think Odum can be ok at Mizzou if they give him time. He was starting with literally nothing.

Losing a lot of respect for Mizzou. They get hammered by the good teams, and then run up the score on high school teams to pad their stats. Low class.
