BREAKING: South Carolina’s not-so-secret game plan for beating Georgia

Sure, everybody’s talked about stopping the run to win against Georgia, but it’s Will Muschamp who’s got the secret victory sauce.

From the looks of Javon Kinlaw’s Twitter account, South Carolina’s defensive game plan for Saturday’s showdown with No. 2 Georgia already has been completely installed.

“Brush your teeth physical this week,” the Gamecocks sophomore defensive tackle posted on his social media account Tuesday.

Kinlaw put the statement in quotes, indicating he had heard it from someone this week. South Carolina coach Will Muschamp wouldn’t confess to being that someone, but it sounds like the kind of thing Muschamp would say, especially with his team on the verge of playing one of the country’s most bruising running games.

“You’ve got to have a physical mindset in this ballgame,” Muschamp said. “You’ve got to understand that part of it. Everything you do, you be physical. So I appreciate him listening well.”

Evidently the rest of the SEC, as well as Notre Dame, has failed to pick on that.  It’s not enough to object to Georgia running the ball.  You’ve got to strenuously object.

A stat from Georgia’s last game:

4 Rushing TDs were scored by Georgia in its 42-7 victory over Florida on Saturday — the same number of rushing TDs that the Gators had given up in their first six games of the season. On Saturday, Sony Michel scored on runs of 74 and 45 yards, Elijah Holyfield scored on a 39-yard run and Nick Chubb scored on a 6-yard run for Georgia. The Bulldogs’ 292 rushing yards more than doubled the 143.3 per game that Florida averaged yielding in its first six games.

South Carolina’s already given up eight rushing touchdowns, so they probably won’t match the Gators’ futility in that department.  The ‘Cocks do rank higher than UF in rushing defense going into the game; then again, playing Georgia can wreck a defense’s stats.

I’m not going to read the post, but I bet it’s “Stop the run, win the turnovers”
    How did I do?

There’s more than that. There is the added ingredient of bringing the physicality hammer down on Georgia’s running game.
In other words, look for a bunch of late hits, targeting and personal foul penalties against USC..and look for Boom’s face to explode on the second or third one.

Also, holds, blocks in the back, chop blocks, facemasks, horse collar, groping, shivs…

Yep, that’s what I’m thinking. It’s going to get chippy pretty quickly. So far, our guys have been very disciplined. If we maintain that this weekend, we win by 35 points.

We knew that would happen with FU, but, as a team, the Dawgs didn’t take the bait. Whenever the word “discipline” is used, the immediate reference should be the dirty play by the losing lizards. Remember, they used to have to sit themselves for 1/2 game as self imposed punishment for pile eye-gouging that their sorry-ass coach wouldn’t admit even after it was shown on video for Gawd and everybody to see.

Sort of off the subject but did anybody here Herbie and the gang lauding ND’s OL as the “greatest OL in the nation” and Beverly Hills last night? Maybe that’s true but Trent Thompson, et. al., chewed them up and spit them out. What does that make our DL? Crickets from Herbie on that.

Call me crazy but I expect a tough game with the Cocks–a lot closer than people think.

South Carolina is definitely taking on the persona of its coach. The question is though, how is Mushchamp going to succeed at USCe with less talent than he had at UF? This last 4 game stretch is going to be very chippy. Just wait until we face the cheap shot taking, trash talking, illegal chop blocking nerds in Atlanta.

He’s sort of doing it, isn’t he? They went to a bowl last year, he’s got em at 6-2 now… I think he’s doing pretty well.

If UT and UF get their act together, it might be different; but for now, SC and KY are fighting for 2d place.

Good points that show the fans get Kirby’s words of caution and the use of blinders from here on out.

      • dawgfan

He is picking up a $787,000 check from UF before the end of the year and is due another one next year. You could argue the man isn’t just doing it, he’s on fire! What’s their big win this year? I believe that fighting Kentucky for 2nd in the East says more about the sorry current state of Florida and Tennessee than it does about Muschamp’s coaching ability.

RBU rotation, some HUNH, Fromm RPO, quick slants and a few deep balls should wear down the chickens by mid 3rd Q as has been the pattern this year, and I don’t see USCe moving the ball much on our D. Call it a tough first half with UGA pulling away for a 34 – 14 victory.

Boom could put 11 men in the box to stop the run. We can’t throw the ball anyway, so it’s not as if he’s taking chances.

    Can we get a Blackout?!

  8. Mark

If they’ve waited until this week to get physical, they’re already toast.

I wonder if SoD incorporated physical brushing of teeth into his “shower discipline” at UT? Or is Boom about to institute that at SCar!
