This is the first year in quite a long, long time that I don’t expect a let down game (aka “face plant) from the Dawgs. I keep telling myself that “Kirby is on the mother” and have become convinced it’s true. Looking at the teams left, I don’t expect any complacency.
    The same goes for ‘Bama.
I think the showdown in ATL is going to happen. (I’m a regular Tony Barnhart, huh?)

Me too Ug. As I said in a post earlier…this team doesn’t know what a ‘B’-game is…I’m looking forward to two undefeated heavy weights going toe to toe in Atlanta.

There’s this nagging thought in the back of my head that they’re going to struggle with someone. Auburn looks like the obvious choice, but almost no team just rolls over everyone like Georgia’s done since Notre Dame for a whole season. The problem with everyone but Auburn is that they don’t match up with Georgia well at all.

If Smart has exorcised the annual Richt face-plant, then UGA should win the East. However, if they play UA in the SECCG, I think Saban will win that one. It will take Kirby at least a couple more years to gain parity, if he continues the current rate of improvement. Hopefully.

Here’s to AU beating you twice this year.

    🙂

(One can dream, no matter how ridiculous)

If Gus loses to Bama and UGA again, do you think he is gone?

Every team can’t win every game. Even the best team can’t win all its games all the time (see Bama). This idea that because a HC with an overall good record should lose his job because he hasn’t won a particular game or games sickens me. Jim McElwaine getting fired mid-season because of a blowout loss to a hated rival after winning the SEC East the last two years sickens me. If they are going to do that they need to fire the President of the University because, after all, he is responsible for everything that happens at his University–right? Every team (even Duke and Vanderbilt) has had some success at some time in its 100 plus year history so….if that team doesn’t win it all like they did back in the 50s, 60s, 70s, 80s, 90s (fill in the blank) then obviously the HC is incompetent so FIRE HIM!!! This “what have you done for me in the last five minutes” attitude being exhibited in college football by fans and athletic administrators is a very disturbing development and if not eliminated or at least controlled will end up killing the sport IMHO.

McElwain was fired for a lot more than simply being blown out by Georgia: a sputtering offense and a 3-4 record three years in, spotty recruiting, a bad relationship with the administration, discussing death threats that apparently never happened at a press conference, etc. The Georgia loss just made it simpler.

As for poor Gus, he’s currently 41-20. Another 8-4 season would put him at 43-22 and wouldn’t inspire much confidence in me if I was an Auburn fan, God forbid. Jim Donnan was 40-19 and had trouble beating rivals, too. Should Georgia have retained him?

I think there is some pressure.

Last year he blew the Clemson game by not being properly prepared and doing the 3 QB thing. I think Rhett left because he couldn’t be his own OC and had Gus second guessing or overriding him. Losing to UGA & SPUAT last year wasn’t too big of a deal because he had no QB. Conversely, it’s his job to have a QB.

This year he lost the Clemson game by. It being prepared and having his OL schooled and not giving his QB some quick, no-read passes to ease the rush.

In recent seasons he lost to SPUAT and FSU by not pouring it on and letting them come back. He almost lost to UGA (Murray comeback) for the saMe reason. He lost the LSU game this year for the same reason. He ran the ball on first down 17 straight times.

There’s a needless streak of stubbornness or lack of personal insight/accountability or something.

AU this far has beaten who they’re supposed to beat, but typically lose to better teams. I think he’s a helluva OC, and possibly HC. The HC has to inspire kids & coaches to be their best at all times and get them to win the unwinnable games. He hasn’t seemed to do that.

IMO, If he doesn’t win 2 of the next 3, he is still just an average HC.

I wouldn’t mind playing AU twice, beating us twice ain’t happening though….

      Honestly, bring on LSU. 🙂

Au’s finishing stretch is a doozy, for sure.

I don’t like having UGA & SPUAT at home in the same year, and it likely won’t matter this year, but if there’s a year they need to be at AU, this is it.

If KS has truly exorcised the annual Richt face plant, then they will win the East. I still think that Saban will prevail in the SECCG. I think also that Kirby will need at least two more years of recruiting and improvement at this year’s pace to compete with Saban. Hopefully.

Same here. If our dawgs make Atlanta to play the tide I don’t think we would win it with the current team. We have the defense. As much as I like and respect Fromm and the O line, I think they’re just not experienced enough to stretch out to the limits of their abilities. I would presume it would take a qb that can make all the throws AND make all the downfield reads hitting receivers in stride with pinpoint accuracy. I also think the online would need more depth and more “packages” for specific situations. We have the running backs, TE, WR, and defense to get close though.
