Heading out in a few minutes, but not before composing the obligatory game day post.
I’ve shared plenty of thoughts about today’s game already this week, and I don’t believe I’ve convinced myself this morning that much has changed. So, cue the bullet points!
- I don’t think the Dawgs will be affected by the selection committee’s vote. They haven’t played at home in a while and I expect the joint will be rocking today, rain or no rain.
- I do think the coaching philosophies of both teams will come in to play. We’re not going to see a shootout. Boom wants to grind things down to a level where his team has a puncher’s chance; Kirby wants Georgia to impose its will. There will be a little of both, but that just means Georgia puts it away in the second half.
- All bets are off if South Carolina’s turnover luck holds up.
- I don’t see how the ‘Cocks score much on the Georgia defense today.
Bottom line, look for something like Georgia 31 — South Carolina 13.
Lay your wisdom on us in the comments.
I am done doubting this team. 52-7.

I can’t shake the nerves, but I am at least becoming aware enough to believe that the problem is with me, not the team. Old habits, etc…

This is exactly what I am feeling. I am shaking off decades of heart breaking. Taking the field as the current no 1 ranked team in the country this late in the season is surreal. About to head out to the stadium and my daughter who is 19 looks at me and says “We are all about stomping that but today dad!” I thought man to be 19 and look at where this program is headed….. she will grow to expect UGA to beat the opposition mercilessly. Good stuff. We are living in interesting time Dawg people.

Of course they want UGA. Saban has won exactly zero titles since Kirby left. Kirby was bringing in the 5 stars and coordinating the defense, Saban was merely riding Kirby’s coattails and getting rich!

Pardon the Negative Nellie thinking, but there’s always one or two SC players with a chip on the shoulder who have career games against Georgia because they felt slighted in recruiting. They usually don’t carry the game, but they make it damn close. Who’s it gonna be this year?

Kiffin’s a dumbass. That’s funny if you or I or some pundit tweets it, but for Kiffin, it’s just about as stupid a move as one could imagine. Name me one good thing that’s ever come from a coach even acknowledging the point spread, much less including it in a tweet trolling Alabama when you’re at a shit school you went to after shitting in every nest you ever alighted in over your short, dumbass career you only ever had because of your daddy.

I don’t get the impression that Kiffin ever thinks that far ahead. I’m not saying I’d want him in any capacity at Georgia, but if he wants to try to tweak everyone he’s ever worked with on Twitter, more power to him. Maybe he’s just preparing for his inevitable future as a college football analyst for ESPN.

If the game goes the way South Carolina wants, Georgia will grind out drives and win something like 31-7. Turnovers by Georgia could keep it closer, but not much. If South Carolina turns the ball over and gives up big plays, Georgia will win by even more. Basically, there’s no foreseeable way this game is close.

Kirby just said on the radio show, “We had a good week of practice.” I don’t think he throws that sentiment around casually. My confidence level just jumped — close to off the charts now.

A lot of talk this week about how South Carolina is good enough to give us trouble. With all due respect to those of that opinion, I don’t know what you’ve been watching. These guys barely got past Tennessee and Vanderbilt. I don’t think they are as good as Miss State.

Has to have been a better title to this post considered. But then, it is more relevant for you young guys! 🙂
Score prediction is in the neighborhood I think. UGA will not lose this game unless we just totally lose ball security. SC has 35 players on their roister from Georgia? Yeah, they will play us hard but they just out talented on both sides of the ball, Dawgs will be jacked, and KS isn’t letting them forget this game can be the one to help those dreams of a championship become reality. I would say we play it conservative, not much flash (as usual) and play right into Chump’s plan: UGA 34 SC 13

I’ll say this for Sakerlina: they do not beat themselves, and they make you grind it out on every drive. Senator’s point about Muschamp making you play down to their level was spot on. Hopefully we can wear them out with depth and talent in the second half.

And really the only criticism I have of Kirby this season is how he manages the end of first halves. Use your TOs and try to get another possession. This needs to be figured out because our current strategy doesn’t make any sense.

Also, Muschamp should have gone for it on that 4th and 5. That’s the type of aggressive call they have to make to have any chance of winning. It’s not in his DNA, though.

Actually, I had little problem with this game. Muschamp kept it tight as was his only chance, but we where wearing them down. A permissible “B” game though I’m wondering about the D strategy with the passing game. Not any pressure on Bently and way too soft on all those 3rd down conversions, but they never got over the top on us, so there’s that.
9 – O bitchez!

If I could add anything to this D, it would be a better pass rush. Still a helluva D.

Dawgs almost exclusively rushed 4 men. Maybe five here and there. Very few straight blitzes before 3rd down. (I think, based on what I witnessed)

I think you answered your question; UGa didn’t respect the Cocks run game and were comfortable allowing SC to play around with the short stuff. At the end o’ the day: 10 pts.

We had our second real test of the season today and won by two TDs. The outcome was never really in doubt, but USCe impressed me. They were well-coached, disciplined, and did not back down. But, they’re just not as talented or deep as UGA.
Despite the relatively low point total, the O played well. It’s fun to see all the weapons we have. However (platitude warning), I’m more than a bit concerned about our pass defense. Our collection of 3-star recruits and a walk-on looked very ordinary today. The Cocks did a good job creating mismatches and we couldn’t cover Hayden Hurst at all.
Next week is going to be a slobberknocker of a game.

I suspect this is a preview of things to come in future years. We are in the middle of a realignment of the SEC East. Georgia will be the top team. FU and UT will fall to near the bottom. South Carolina, Missouri and Kentucky will be competing for #s 2-4. I see the pecking order going forward as: (1) Georgia; (2) South Carolina; (3) Missouri; (4) Kentucky; (5) UT; (6) Florida; (7) Vanderbilt. The last 3 will be fighting it out among themselves to avoid being the bottom team. Personally, I favor Vandy beating FU and UT but hey–that’s just me. 🙂
