While opposing defensive backs dismiss Jake Fromm for his lack of passing skills, maybe their teammates on offense ought to be concerned about who really has a problem with the deep pass in Georgia games.

“And Georgia fans, don’t be turds. Enjoy this. Soak it up. It’s awesome. If you don’t win this year, it’s still not a failure. It’s a heck of a run. Back-to-back in the Playoff era hasn’t been done. So, to ask for a third I feel like it’s gluttonous. I feel like it’s not OK. But we’ll be in the mix.”-- David Pollack, On3.com, 5/9/23
I just don’t know what that really means. Have we played a team that is actually really good at passing the ball?
I think we will find out how good our D is against a decent passing team on Saturday.

Missouri can throw it around with the best of them.

And they did, twice for 62 yards each. Of course, we tightened that stuff right up in the second half.

Yes, we have. As ee pointed out. Drew Lock is 2nd in the SEC in passing efficiency and yards per attempt (behind Fromm in both categories.) Lock is 5th national lung in passer rating and 6th nationally in yards per attempt.

Given that in general we have had the lead in the games, those stats are more impressive to me since the opponents are having to try to throw it around to play catch up. We have given up a few long passes but nothing devastating. That’s with a back field that Kirby doesn’t feel is yet elite. Keep recruting Kirby!

Despite all the hand wringing about our pass defense Saturday we held Jake Bentley to a 112.48 passer rating.
We are second in the conference in pass defense as measured by opponents ‘ passer ratings and seventh nationally.
We have a good pass defense.

Good point. Those teams are throwing it in the 3rd, and early in the fourth. But when the defense has to go back on the field and get drilled by our rushing attack running the clock a couple of times, they have convinced the HC to begin running some clock too and getting the hell out of town. We have worn defenses down, and haven’t been scorched much by the air attack. Think back over the season, take away those two Mizzou bombs, and we have been pretty solid, especially deep.

Not an expert, but it looked to me like SC defense held up pretty well – even with the lopsided TOP in Georgia’s favor.

Really? USCjr’s D couldn’t get off the field and UGA rushed for almost 250 yards despite the box being stacked and was over 60% on 3rd down conversions. I thought Georgia pretty much just ground them down.

Good point the TV guys were commenting that the USCe defense was like a dead man walking. Even with USCe making all the 3rd downs we still drilled them into submission. Remember if Godwin doesn’t fumble we would have been on our way to another big lead early.

Not sure what opposing DBs think, but I’m impressed with our passing game. I can easily rattle off clutch receptions by Wims, Godwin, Hardeman, Swift, Nauta, and Ridley. Fromm may not have the proverbial gun for an arm but he’s making the big throws. And he’s one of the best game managers in cfb.
