You may not have noticed that he’s having a good year.
Okay, okay, I’m kidding… not about the good year.

Georgia LB Roquan Smith still leads the nation with his 48 tackles and 33 stops in run defense, all without missing a tackle in run defense. pic.twitter.com/PFxmHt1suf

“I don’t mess with Jack,” Smart said of the player named the Peach Bowl offensive MVP.. “I don’t mess with kickers. I let them do their thing. Probably the best thing to happen is he didn’t have long to think about it.” — AB-H, 1/1/21
Roquan deserves any awards he gets–and more. Best run defender in the nation IMHO.

He’s been the best player on the field in almost every single game.

Roquan maybe the best Dawg LB Ever ! Our other defenders have regressed as the year has progressed. Especially our DBs , waiting on someone else to make the dam tackle.

We should all give thanks for R. Smith

If he doesn’t win the Butkus Award, I’ll be disappointed for him (although I’m sure he would take some team hardware over an individual award). He was a singlehanded wrecking ball against the vaunted Notre Dame running game.
He deserves every accolade that is going to come his way.

And it’s not just that he makes a lot of stops…he explodes any dude coming around toting a football. He’s one of the fastest, finest defenders you’ll ever see. Truly a heat seeking missile .

i’m no X and O guy, but you have to figure he’s making a lot of those stops on plays designed to AVOID HIM AT ALL COSTS. Because that dude is a bad, bad man. GATA, Roquan!

Shhhhhh – don’t let him find out about that. I heard he’s at best Mr. Irrelevant.
1 more year! 1 more year!
Seriously, if he’s projected to go that high, Godspeed, Roquan. Just remember to endow scholarships (including non-athletic) like Mr. & Mrs. AJ Green have. I’m sure a kid from the 478 would appreciate it.

One of best to ever play defense for Dawgs, we are sure going to miss him next year.

Much as I hate it, there doesn’t seem to be much hope for maintaining RS for his Senior year. Of course, I didn’t see any way Chubb or Michel returned, or Carter and Bellamy, so my assessment is obviously flawed. TT may need another year, bur if Smith returns it will be because he really wants that diploma and truly loves UGA. Seems like he pulled the wrong hat out of that bag on NSD just a few months ago, his time at UGA flew by more quickly than anyone I can remember.
We can be good on defense next year, but not sure we can be great with both Smith and Thompson joining the departing seniors. We will have to be a lot better on offense in 2018 to make up for the fall off in defense.

He’s projected as a first round pick so I definitely would not blame him for leaving. Sony and Nick, and even Davin and Lo, improved their draft stock by staying IMO. Not sure Roquan can do any better than he has this year. 😉

No, he can’t. That is why there is no way to begrudge him when he leaves. If he and his family did want him to graduate, I hope he gets a huge insurance policy to cover any potential loss from injury.

To paraphrase George, he’s a heartbreak when he leaves you, but he’ll leave you with a smile.
