By the time Georgia freshman tailback D’Andre Swift broke loose for a 64-yard touchdown run for a 28-7 advantage, the game seemed so far out of reach that the scoreboard operator at Mercedes-Benz Stadium prematurely posted a message congratulating the Bulldogs for winning the SEC championship — with 10:34 left to play in the game.
Then again, maybe the conference was just sending a message to the officials to back off.
Downfield blocking is now a penalty and cut blocking is only allowed for NATS

The penalty on the FB for throwing a nice block was the Shiz. That one had to win the Penn Wagers Award for Excellence in Georgia Shafting, though there were many fine candidates last night.

The refs yesterday were just bad. Was at the game and spent a ridiculous amount of time just looking for flags. It was bizarre.

I’m so happy about the win, getting revenge on Aubren, gettiing the SEC championship, the season continuing, that I almost forgot what a shit show those officials put on last night. Seriously, what the hell was going on out there? That may be the worst I have ever seen and that little leprechaun man of a head official with the permanent grin seemed to be taking personal joy in it.

If that officiating crew was the best as it was supposed to be Steve Shaw should be fired.

I posted in the live game thread…that was not bad officiating, it was corrupt. I’m glad Kirby was able to convince his team those were penalties for being “aggressive” and not to worry. Fortunately, at the end they gave us a couple of calls and we know the rest of the story. Nevertheless, that crew should be reviewed and disciplined and the SEC needs to get better officiating.

PWG calls happen until it’s clear one of the SEC’s ‘home’ teams is not going to win the game.
Then toss in a few ‘make-up’ calls in garbage time and everything’s cool.
Repeat.
Kirby knows how this works.

We rode the elevator down from 300 to 10 at halftime to go see some friends.
At the Suite level, four guys in suits with SEC credentials got on, so I took the opportunity to ask if they were with the league office and what the deal with the officiating was.
Not receiving any sort of reply, all I could say was “same as it ever was…”

Interesting how Schlabach characterizes Eason in the article – definitely is not how UGA has treated him to-date. “Their chances seemed to diminish even more when they lost starting quarterback Jacob Eason to a season-ending knee injury on the first possession of a 31-10 win over Appalachian State in the opener. “
