It’s a raid!

Mel Tucker’s got himself a second interview with Tennessee.

James Coley is interviewing to become Jimbo’s offensive coordinator.

Good for both, although I wonder if Tucker knows what he might be getting himself into with Fulmer looking closely over his shoulder.

Meanwhile, the reserve fund’s financial statement trembles a little in Greg McGarity’s hand.

Keep the band together, Greg! If anyone leaves lack of commitment on our part better not be the reason. Of course, we shouldn’t pay a receivers coach OC money, or a DC Head Coach money. But we can certainly make them a better paid position coach and coordinator.

Tucker would be nuts to go the TN.

If Coley leaves, get prepared for all the Hines Ward mentions from the lunatic fringe to replace him.

Taking the Tennessee job in this situation seems like a decision Tucker would regret, but I don’t know all of the factors involved in the decision. He’s a black guy, so he may be concerned this is his best shot at a major SEC gig, even if I think that’s a not as big a problem as it might have been even as recently as a decade ago.

Mel needs something in his UT contract about treble damages for any case of sudden knives in the back. Johnny Majors didn’t call Phat Fill “Judas Brutus” for nothing.

I couldn’t fault Tucker for leaving for a head coaching job, but the dumpster fire in Tennessee would be the last place I would want to go right now. Especially knowing Phil would be looking over my shoulder and the unrealistic mob that is their fan base.

UCF raiding Mizzou for Heupel is good news for us, methinks.

I look for really great things out of Josh Heupfel (sp?) in the future. It would not surprise me to see him as HC of a Power 5 team in the next 3 years.

I’m sure we’ll get an email offering the opportunity to increase your 2017 Hartman Fund contribution. The reserve fund must be preserved.

This bothers me to say but I think UT checks the box by interviewing Tucker. Tucker has been around enough to know what a good job looks like and could leverage this for a raise at a pretty good place till the right offer comes along.

Sign of success. Kirby’s email is probably already blowing up with interested replacements’ resumes. I just hope we don’t lose recruits because of coaching changes.

I just hope this doesn’t F the team in its preparation for the next, and hopefully, next two games.

I guess we get to see what Alabama has to deal with every year. It can’t be easy to deal with these things AND focus on the most important games of the year. The good news is that we have folks on staff that have gone through it. I’d feel better if it was the OC instead of the DC though….

This is why the QC staff is so important. Alabama uses them like the bullpen. Lose a coach call one up from the pen. The problem is Kirby hasn’t been around long enough to have a lot of depth in the bullpen.

I checked out Rocky Top Talk, and to call the Vol fans there unenthusiastic about this potential hire is an understatement.

Yes, this isn’t happening for Tucker. Add the terrible situation there, Phat Phil hanging from his waist, and the crazy fans being against him from the start, he would be crazy to accept that. He will get much better offers in the next couple of years.

He is eventually going to make someone a good head coach. Those orange folks only want other orange folks.

Agree that Uncle Mel remains a Dawg. I have a buddy who is a Vol fan and he laughed in my face when I told him they were not going to be able to make a home run hire and get a big name. I’m telling y’all, those people are so delusional that it is almost kind of pitiful.

Thought he was just interviewing, are you saying he got the job? Yes, if he gets the OC job but no, for a lateral. UGA will have to get off the cheap level, and I think they must do it this month (actually this week, because a lot of staffs are being built.)

You might be right but it seems that Jimbo would want to build a staff with as much ties to in state Texas HS coaches. Coley is strong in Florida but is that going to help him in Texas? Just doesn’t seem like a good recruiting fit. Then again how many friends does jimbo have left at this point?

Coley sure can recruit, particularly in Florida. But it’s gotten so competitive with the additions of CMR, Strong, Mullin, Kiffie, Butch Davis, etc., etc. Even in recruit-rich Florida, there’s only so many players to be harvested. Eventually there’s got to be diminishing returns. Agree tamu would be better to concentrate on Texas connections. Louisiana too.

I-had-two-helpings-and-I-still-don’t-Phil-Full-mer is going to have a hard time getting a great coach to sign on, in my opinion, with his actively stating he wants to be involved in the inner workings of the football program. I just can’t see a control freak head coaching type agreeing to that. Maybe they can hire Bert, he’s worked under those conditions before while at Wisconsin.

    Their coach is at Memphis.
Steele and Tucker are being used to stall recruits.
If Fulmer thinks they are qualified, that is his business. If you keep running thru coaches what does that say about anybody at UT with the ability to hire a staff or even a HC. UT is desperate for a hire.
Phil would be wise to ask Peyton for advice. Martin is an OC and former player. So why did he turn them down. Speaks volumes to me if you want to follow Jones and Dooley.
Notice who they have gone after…SEC coaches. Not one coach from ACC is on their mind. And yet Clemson and FSU have been in the top programs for a few years.
UT, they like to poach. Tucker is a very good DC but under two solid HC, latter Smart who put in a decade as an assistant under perhaps the best HC out there.
If you were a coach, would you like to have an interview with Fulmer…now the face of Vol athletics, ie, their football program.
    Akin to Dooley replacing McGarity.

    One reason Fisher left FSU.
Journey thru their facilities. Then go to UGA.
FSU, a deemed national program, with facilities that are rivaled by some D2 programs.
Fisher was fed up with FSU. Coley, why follow Jimbo. Why ever leave him.
Again another assistant who should wait.
Put in the time at UGA. Make it a back to back program. Then let your agent go to work. Why? In 2018 ACC will be like 2017 SEC.
