A bargain at twice the price

Of the fifteen assistant coaches now making more than $1 million a year, only three are with teams in the CFP.  Coincidentally, there are at least three names on that list coaching with teams that won’t even make a bowl game.

    We should all be learning the valuable lesson that money doesn’t equal competence or success on your chosen field. You can get “stupid rich” and neatly fit that moniker.

    Mel Tucker is a bargain at $850k. I have a feeling he’s going to feel the love this offseason. Dell McGee will also get a nice raise.

    Lol, I’m sure McG loved being #12 until Sexton starts calling because there’s going to be some raises. A little suprised Bama pays that much. i always figured coaches went through Saban’s meatgrinder knowing the cash would come at the next stop

    It’s kinda sad seeing these programs handing out money like it actually does grow on trees. All because they aren’t honest with themselves about their program’s station.

    Be interesting to see what UT pays Pruitt. I know many around here still think he single-handedly turned our program around(smh) but the guy has been a DC for only, what, 3 years? Before that he was a position coach. Before that he was a high school coach? That’s one of the quickest progressions I’ve seen. Not just to HC but HC of an SEC program that expects to compete for titles?? It’s really kind shocking that these programs are still willing to hand out gaudy contracts considering the fact we’ve seen programs really hurt themselves financially.

    Imo, UT is desperate/delusional enough to give Pruitt suck a contract and Pruitt is egotistical enough to take it. I don’t see this going well. Besides…Pruitt was more like van Gorder or Spurrier than Smart when it comes to recruiting. UT is a tough enough sell with a good recruiter.

    Biggest takeaway: Alabama’s OLB coach, Lupoi, makes $100k more than either of UGA’s coordinators.

    Bama, LSU, and Clemson top 3 in total spend.

    Georgia down the list @ 12, right above OSU and Oklahoma strangely enough.

    Ohio State is the shocker…Schiano is only making $700k
