“We remember the Sugar Bowl, I think it my junior year of high school, we let Alabama beat us twice,” Brinson said of a team that also lost to the Crimson Tide in the SEC Championship game. “We’re not letting Alabama beat us twice. In the Sugar Bowl in 2018, they… thought they should have been in the playoffs and lost to Texas.” -- AB-H, 12/27/23
Yeah, Shea, I’m sure you’re sitting there with the course catalog in your lap just chomping at the bit to continue your academic career.

To be fair, Michigan is light years better academically than ole miss.

My middle school was better than ole miss academically, and might be better in football for the next few years.

Not fair! Your middle school is harder to get into than Ole Miss!

Those folks in Oxford refer to their school as The Harvard of the South. I’m dead serious.

Just glad i won’t have to root against Eason at Michigan.

I’ve been wondering where he’ll land. Reckon there’s any chance he’d stay?

If he stays I’ll be shocked. We made it very clear we have absolutely no intention of playing him, even in mop up duty. And we have a highly touted freshman coming in. I don’t anticipate he will let the door hit him in the butt on his way out. I suspect we may hear something within days of our season ending.

What if that highly-touted freshman decommitted and then how would you feel?

Unless Fields signs in the early period (I think he has stated he is planning to sign in February), I’m going to be nervous about Eason’s decision to transfer. He has handled all of this with total class and the program should thank him for being the 2016 class lynchpin right in the middle of a coaching transition.

I want Eason to stay. I think we should have played him a great deal more than we did. I will be very sorry to see him go. I understand Jake is a great on the field leader but he still can’t make some of the throws Eason was making pretty routinely half way through his freshman year. I think we will miss him. You can never assume a highly touted freshman will pan out. We don’t need to look any further her than Brice Ramsey to understand that.

Eason has great talent but I’m still not sure about the whole Eason could make the throws that Fromm can’t statement. Fromm has made just about every pass in the book and will only get better. Also, he pulls the trigger much faster than Eason which shows quicker decision making making IMO.

No doubt Jake pulls the trigger faster. I’m not saying he won’t eventually be the better quarterback. But I do think we should have used Eason more this year and I do think we will miss him. I also believe he is more accurate with the deep ball.

Based on exactly what facts Paul? What you have read on blogs like this one?

Tim, when you look at the statistics for their freshman years the two aren’t significantly different. Jake was certainly more accurate, completing 63% of his passes versus only 55% for Eason. Jacob threw 370 passes to Fromm’s 230. Jacob threw for 112 first downs while Fromm threw for 86. Fromm had more completions in the 15+ yard range (57 to 47) and both had similar stats in the 25+ range (23 for Jacob and 27 for Jake). My recollection from actually watching the games is that Eason was more accurate deep. Fromm was more likely to throw a jump ball. Which, let’s face it, is pretty much all you need to do when you have Wims out there. I’m old, so my memory isn’t the greatest. I like Eason and he’s a known quantity so I hate to lose him. However, everyone seems to agree he is destined for the NFL so it is unlikely he will hang around to ride the pine and I can’t blame him for that.

That’s funny because I thought that was Eason’s greatest weakness and a strength for Fromm.

Again, I am old and I have been accused of being less than a genius on more than one occasion. Just my opinion. Not that it matters. I think Eason is gone no matter what we or anybody else thinks.

Hey, it worked out for Gus Malzahn. And I bet it didn’t even cost Harbaugh 200 large.
Jerry Tarkanian once said he loved transfers, because their clothes and cars were already paid for. I’m sure Shea Patterson is all on the up and up, and just wanted to get out of Oxford during the rebuilding calamity. I’m sure that isn’t what Freeze sold him on to get him there initially. I also recall how he led the carving up of our defense last year. Sorry we never got a chance to avenge that one, but maybe we can catch him down the road!

I believe it was Chad Kelley who carved us up. Patterson came in after Kelly was lost for the year.

It is impossible to feel bad for Ole Moss. And Patterson probably had an inkling what he was getting himself into.
But damn. Year 1 redshirt ripped off by a desperate coach who got canned for cell phone records. Year 2 beat to hell trying to make hay for an interim audition. Year 3 sitting out for transfer from a nuked program.
Way to go, Hugh.

Are we sure he has to sit out a year?

Yes. Only players with 1 year of eligibility remaining get a free transfer. If it had been a 2 year bowl ban, then no, he wouldn’t.

I think it is a 2 year bowl ban. The NCAA added 1 year to the school’s self imposed 1 year ban….making 2. It sure does seem like uncharted waters though.

2 going forward. Patterson could in theory play in a bowl his senior year at Ole Miss, so he still has to sit if he transfers. Guys with 3 years there already don’t.

Right, I read that he does not have to sit out. Pretty good get for Mich. A talented QB with a year and a half of experience.

He has to get a special waiver from the NCAA, which he doesn’t have, hasn’t even applied for yet

“Patterson could potentially be eligible to play for the Wolverines this fall due to the NCAA sanctions currently facing his old program. The NCAA said players heading into their senior season with the Rebels would be free to transfer without penalty when the governing body ruled to ban Ole Miss from postseason play next season.
The NCAA came down hard on the Ole Miss football program for lack of institutional control, penalizing the Rebels with a second bowl ban and additional scholarship restrictions.
Patterson, who will be a junior in 2018, will have to apply for an individual waiver from the NCAA to avoid sitting out a year in Ann Arbor”

“The NCAA came down hard on the Ole Miss football program” that made me laugh. The NCAA made it very clear with their non action in North Carolina, their non action relative to the FBI investigation of collegiate basketball and their minuscule response to Ole Miss, that cheating pays. In their own report the NCAA admits they know Ole Miss has been cheating for thirty years. That begets a two season bowl ban. At this point if you ain’t cheating it’s because you don’t want to win or you just don’t have the money.

Yet Ole Miss fans say all of this was worth it for those two fleeting wins over Bama. Insane.

NCAA put hard times on Ole Miss and his family. You don’t know what hard times are daddy. Hard times are when the racist mascots around this country are out of work, they got 4 or 5 kids and can’t pay their wages, can’t buy their food. Hard times are when the bag men are out of work and they tell ‘em go home. And hard times are when a man has worked at a job for four years, four years, and they give him a show clause, kick him in the butt and say “hey a Matt Luke took your place, daddy”, that’s hard times! That’s hard times! And Jim Harbaugh you put hard times on Ole Miss by takin’ Shea Patterson out, that’s hard times. And we all had hard times together, and I admit, my facilities don’t look like the schools of the day supposed to look. My practices are outside, my weight room doesn’t have a waterfall, but brother, I am bad. And they know I’m bad.

It’s so hard for me to sit back here in this office, looking at a guy out here, hollering my name!—When last year I spent more money, on recruits that flipped, in camps from one side of this country to the other, than you made! You’re talking to the Khaki wearing, turtle neck wearing, player stealing, whoa! wheelin dealin’, limosuine riding, jet flying son of a gun and I’m having a hard time holding these Jordan coach cleats down!

It’s asinine they make any of these these kids sit for a year if they transfer. I know we’ve probably beaten that issue to death around these parts, but it drives me nuts. Eason should be free to play right away if he decides to transfer as well.
