“They’re basically building an SEC East Death Star.”

You know, I could read this stuff all day long.

They’re already in the Playoff in Year 2 of the Kirby Smart era. Imagine what happens when this recruiting class and last year’s No. 3-ranked haul start seeing the field. In college football, depth wins titles, and UGA is building a two-deep that few teams can top.

I’m trying.  I have a good imagination.

Senator: an ad on your blog is for a red T shirt that says:”FROMM” made Georgia Great Again. Wonder what his cut is?

Let’s play that out a little. Let’s assume that is not an UGAA shirt, but from an independent source. Question: Could Fromm seek legal representation to order a “cease and desist” for using his name? If so, could he receive damages? If he did, would that be an NCAA violation on his part.

I’m guessing: Yes, Yes, Yes. The last one perhaps being the most stupid and unfair part about it.

Also making that “all time” list, Bama’s classes from 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015, 2016, and 2017. Their last six years all made the all time list, which is incredible, and still a force to be reckoned with.
Still, can’t be more excited about the way things are going, especially on the offensive line and at running back.

CMR has proved hes a winner and a good coach. Problem is everyone wants a CNS…..winning solves a lot of problems.

      • Mark Richt is not a winner, if you mean, wins games against ranked opponents and wins championships. In fact, his teams over the last 10 years are often unprepared, don’t show up, and get blown-out by ranked opponents.

Mark Richt is a winner, if you mean, wins games against inferior opponents (even though he’ll always lose at least one game he never should against one of those every year).

We didn’t want a Nick Saban. We wanted a coach who would recruit hard (not just skill position players, but on the O & D lines), win the games we should always win, beat ranked opponents, have his team prepared to play, jettison the sanctimonious “Georgia Way,” take advantage of all of the natural resources a college football program needs to win that the state of Georgia has in abundance, and stop UNDERACHIEVING.

Because that’s what Mark Richt is most known for: underachieving.

The man has a NC ring and a SECC ring. He was a good coach and did a lot of good while here. I think things have changed so much and lets be honest McGrity was not helpful then as he i s now.. . that means a lot to winning and we have the process. 😉

thank you Athens Homer Dawg; Mark Richt will always be a Damn Good Dawg. You can respect the last coach and love the new coach at the same time. It’s not that difficult. Richt and Smart have tremendous respect for each other.

FWIW CMR didn’t get the support from the UGA administration that Kirby is getting. Whose fault that is and how much of a negative effect that had on the program can be debated but the foregoing statement is a fact. CMR does seem to be getting that support from his new employer and I predict he will do well there.

We’re in a good place right now. Let’s enjoy it. There’s no need for any Richt bashing. Move on and enjoy the Rose Bowl.

There was never a good time for being a crummy fan. He is one, and he isn’t the only shitty one here. Every program has them, we just a few of the lowest. Ignore the hate, they have some significant issues and wish to drag everyone down to their miserable level. Enjoy the good times, and CMR helped UGA get here. He is one of us, always, despite the bad ones who can’t seem to figure it out.

Does anyone seriously think Richt would have gotten UGA to the playoffs? Does anyone seriously think Richt will get Miami to the playoffs? One has a better chance of getting hit by a meteorite, much less lightening, and I live in FL. 15 years is 15 years. Time enough.

Only with the effort he put out or lack thereof as coach at UGA. He did not seem to me to give a damn one way or the other. Nothing more.

Georgia was 1 play away from making it to the BCSNCG in 2012. Kind of shoots your premise to pieces, doesn’t it? And if Miami had beaten Clemmons in the ACCCG the U would have been in the playoff THIS year. Just sayin.’

Not really. That one play does not mean a damn thing. He did not win and UGA did not go. 2012 was an East championship and nothing else. The “one play” excuse is a crutch. To your second point, if frogs had wings, they would not bust their butts when they flew. He had his usual face plants in 2017. Remember all those big games where he shit the bed? Lastly, Richt’s two SEC championships were BS…….before Saban. Not that I give a damn, but we will see what happens at Miami.

While I agree that recruiting is the lifeblood of any college program and getting better players means generally beating teams whose players aren’t as good, there still is a coaching component. Ray Goff was an excellent recruiter who at least at the beginning out-recruited Spurrier and Fulmer. CMR signed a lot of good players, too. Kirby is doing more than just recruiting at a very high level. He’s really coaching his players up. And the recruits see that. That’s why they want to come to Georgia.

Kirby’s recruiting is so good it’s even spilling over onto Fox and the basketball team. Fox just got a five star point guard to commit.

It’s raining five stars in Athens!

My brother-in-law went to Bama and he told me that when the Tide started winning all those natties in football under Saban it lifted up all the other athletic programs. If you look at some of the minor sports in particular (men’s and women’s golf, etc.) you can really see it.

You’ll be my source from now on. There used to be a guy on here who loved to hammer the mantra that Richt had the number three class when he was fired (it was November, mind you) and Kirby finished with a lower ranked class he cobbled together in two months for the 2016 cycle. The logical conclusion there was Kirby couldn’t recruit at Richt’s level. He also loved to remind us that because Kirby couldn’t improve on Richt’s ten win plateau in the first season, then the logical conclusion had to be that the coaching change was a colossal mistake.

Nah, I doubt that. I’m guessing a good portion of the elite recruits in Georgia probably grew up rooting for UGA, but left the state to play for championships. UGA doesn’t have to cheat for players, it just has to maximize its potential for competing for championships and Kirby is now clearly on it. Shout out to PTC.
