I’ve finally seen a greater game than 1980 UGA-UF.

I’m spent. What a game. What a game. Just can’t write words now

EVERY bit as good as OSU/Miami ’02, UT/USC ’05.
It was a yawner…..
I think I’ll get drunk now.
I flipped it over to the Bucks/Raptors game after Oklahoma blew it open on the pass to Mayfield.
How much did OU end up winning by?
My God, I think I aged ten years tonight. But it was worth every step I’m closer to the grave.

That was incredible. There are no words.
Naturally, I am pleased.
Try to restrain your enthusiasm.
Tony Barnhart’s brother.
Tony Barnhart’s brother, iyam.
Oops, didn’t post at first, but everything is frozen here.
All the way to the end. All the way.
I had Tech friend pulling for Oklahoma and even he admitted that was an amazing game. I’m still not sure whether to yell, laugh, or cry. And I love Chubb but sure as hell going to miss Sony. He definitely made up for the fumble.
I remember when certain people (me) on this blog that think they know what they are talking about were bitching about the Wild Dawg package.
I guess that person (me) can STFU now and admit he doesn’t know sh*t about football.
At least you weren’t comparing Mayfield to Colt Brennan. DAMN, I CAN’T BELIEVE WE WON!!!!!
Just incredible … and yes, this game will go in the same place in Georgia history as “Run, Lindsay, Run.”
I’m just glad I took the over. 😉
Did you take the over on how many times Herbie would refer to Mayfield as Baker?
Those two are really bad, aren’t they? There’s a flatness in each of their approach that just screws up the game. They’re meant to comment before or after, not CALL.
No nails, hair, or whisky left. God almighty what a game…
Better make a beer run brother. We got one more to play! 😎
Found half gallon of Woodford’s Reserve last week for $59.95. There may be some left in other stores but not the one where I discovered that.
I’m with you, brother. Tops BOTH the Lindsay Scott game and the ‘65 Flea-Flicker stunner over Bama, in my book. You picked a great time to go West!
I don’t know, and the whole year has been incredible, but the hook and ladder against Bama in 1965 may have been my first/best UGA moment. As a single play that, and Lindsey Scott, would be the two best; this game/season would be the best collection, imo.
I’m good with that. Guess I’d call them my three happiest UGA football memories.
I’m very thankful instant replay wasn’t around in ‘65. Think it would have wiped out the play when Hodgson’s knees touched the ground. Would’ve been a damn shame.
While I love me some liquor, my beautiful wife says no. So Yuengleing dark and tan in my friend. Best game I’ve ever seen too. Nice to have a qb who has character.
Made my epiglottis stand straight up…
How ’bout them Dawgs!
Amazingly, I think our team came out of that game in better health than the fans. God bless their gritty souls.
I’m just waking up out west. A little the worse for wear, but what a night…
Keepin da main thing, da main thing. And, to the gentleman in the game thread who was whining about Blankenship? Fuck you.
Stable the ponies, put the wagon in the barn, bitches.
“I gave up, you did too”…
No, I really gave up. Made up new curse words, the whole thing. I didn’t break any small appliances, though. But I did give up.
I didn’t completely give up. I just adjusted my expectations after the Sony fumble.
I couldn’t believe I was giving up/adjusting my expectations on Roquan Smith! I thought he had met his Waterloo. Silly me! He’s no Napoleon! He’s German! And he bombed Pearl Harbor!
I may be mixing my metaphors. Or history. I love everybody, too, Dolly!
I was honestly just hoping we could make it respectable after that first half.
Exactly. I thought we were about to get run out of the stadium and utterly humiliated midway through the second quarter. The final result and consequences of this game still haven’t sunk in with me yet.
I love everybody!
I told my wife at the half, “we will own the third quarter, we usually do, we will come back and tie this thing, problem is…will we be able to keep the momentum and hold when they inevitably get rolling in the fourth quarter?”
That was awesome!!!
i found my comment below made last night in my exhaustion, sorry for the somewhat double post.
Its all good though, we won!
I did, too. I completely admit it. So proud of this team.
Enjoy Senator! Party time
Jesus H Tapdancing Christ. I went through half a sixer of strong beer, and most of a fifth of Rye. I have two sixers and two fifths of strong beverage left for next week. I’ma have to call in reinforcements…
Me too. Glad I’m not a nail biter or I’d have no fingers left. Didn’t anticipate drinking as much as I did. Was on the edge of my seat more and more as each moment of the game ticked.
Edge of the seat, really? I sit for almost every football game, but I pace, and coach nearly every minute of Dawg games. I even remember where I have stood in the room/deck when we have had success on offense or defense. Sitting isn’t an option, unless the game is well in hand.
I keep a TV on from one end of the house to the other so that as I pace relentlessly I don’t miss anything. My wife admits that it drives her up the wall, as she’s always afraid to make sudden turns and that I’ll trip over her.
I am worn out…whew
At the half I told my wife we would, “own the third quarter,…problem’s gonna be can we hold on when they finally get going”.
What a second half…and two more periods.
I could stay up until dawn watching a loop of Sony running the ball into the end zone.
All night long.
What about that Fromm block?
That was the key block springing Sony for the game-winning TD.
Too you young ‘uns (post-1980). THIS is what DESTINY feels like.
I don’t think I’m going to stop being shaky for the rest of the night. And here I thought I had a cardiac stress test back in October.
I told you the first half was a throwaway by Kirby. Wanted to get them complacent and show their hand.
That Kirby…he’s a realllll sly one!
With all respect Bluto…what made the Miracle on Duval Street the miracle on Duvall Street was what happened in Nawlins. But, for a Rose Bowl it was a pretty good football game.
This is what the 2012 SEC championship game felt like to Bama fans
Just one more game to win. Love the dawgs.
First time I’ve been compelled to comment
And boy did he ever run….and run….and run…. It was really special to me that he had a chance to push the memory of that rare fumble to the back of his mind and replace it with a “never to be forgotten” winning TD. He and Chubb have brought something to UGA that cannot be measured by stats on the field.
I laughed, I cried, I’m still in shock.
Humble yourself, Mayfield!
Loved that so much
I would never have thought we win a game with 100+ points scored. WOW!!!!!!!!!!!
It’s Great… To Be… A Georgia Bulldog!!!!!!!!
And grown men wept!
Mayfield wept, too. Cry it out, son. Just cry it out. You’ll do well, I promise …
Im. Just. Spent.
I have to give it to him. Scott Howard’s call of Sony’s TD is an absolute classic. We give him grief as a Bulldog Nation, but tonight was pretty awesome.
Scott Howard has the impossible task of being the successor to the greatest announcer in college football history, but he’s solid in his own right and a DGD.

Was he screaming?
No – he raised his voice but not the shrieking we’ve comets expect. He’s the first to notice Jake’s block on the corner. It was a great call.
I like Scott’s play calls…UNTIL we score.
He just plain yells TOO FRIGGING MUCH.
That being said, I would have LOVED to hear Larry call this one.
It was really good, and “scream worthy” given the circumstances. I do wish he had been clearer on the Fromm block portion of the call, but I understand there was a lot to say during those 5 seconds. I didn’t understand that until after watching the replay. Very cool that Fromm put himself in the position (very Baker-esque).
That block will go down in the same breath as Nat Hudson’s “got a block behind him” on the banks of the St. Johns River.
They set a new NCAA record for most rushing yards by a RB duo in a career.
Goggles set a rose bowl record wth his 55 yard FG.
Highest scoring rose bowl game ever.
First ever OT at the rose bowl.
Gosh almighty the dogs just just beat Oklahoma in double overtime
yeah, the Dawgs were never supposed to win a shoot out with them
I know I’m asking a lot, you guys, but hunker it down one more time!
We’re there now. One. More. Game.
You know I think Roquan may be NFL material. He should look into that.
Next week. He’s busy this week.
S T F U. One more year, one more year … Hey, it worked for Nick, Sony, Lorenzo and Davin.
We were there in the Rose Bowl and it was amazing. I still can’t believe that UGA came back and won that game. The atmosphere was awesome. After the scoop and score I thought the UGA demons had won. But the blocked FG. The blocked FG. Greatest play in UGA history. At least the last several decades.
Greatest, and most exhausting, game I’ve ever been to.
It is GREAT to be a Jaw-juh Bulldog!
It is GREAT to be a Georgia Bulldog
Tied it with the Wild Dawg.
Won it with the Wild Dawg.
Really, though. As much as that play has gone over like a bad fart in church all year, it comes through now, against Oklahoma, the trick-playingest team I can remember playing, ever … wow. The Wild Dawg. It will live forever now.
Struggled with it at Notre Dame, but used it very successfully against Mississippi St and Ga Tech. Chub’s run against Miss St is the biggest hole you will ever see a college RB go through.
Sony had a pretty big hole on one of his runs last night.
With Jake Fromm holding his block on the DB as good as you’ll ever see from a wideout! That and the crackback by Nauta opened the hole. #execution
Sorry but the Georgia defense ran through the biggest hole in college football: Baker Mayfield.
Did you leave out a letter, or three in describing that “hole”? I get that the guy is a cool, cold blooded warrior on the field, but does he not get what a douche he looks like with his antics on the sideline? Lot of endorsement dollars flying out the window, as if he cares. Maybe a distant relation to Manziel?
I’m exhausted. I don’t think our local BWWs will let me back in their restaurant after tonight, but it was worth it.
Oh my heart…
The BEST Georgia PSA ever done. REM is the perfect musical choice.
Bama looks scary.
Looks like an All-SEC final.
Screw you, Big 10.
Bring whichever one wins the other game. To be the best, you’ve got to beat the best. Kirby would certainly know Saban’s tendencies.
At a friends house watching the game. Had 18 people there, beer flowing when we realized someone needed to make a beer run at halftime. Someone I had never met before tonight sent his wife on the beer run for us as she was the only one not drinking much. Money was took up, trip underway when someone asked what brand of beer she had been told to pick up. Ends up no one told her what beer to pick up. She comes back with two natty packs, not a beer I’m real fond of. Guess what beer I’ll be drinking during the championship game.
Brother, you drink that watery shit for the team.
If it takes you drinking a Natty for the Dawgs to win a Natty, then you better damn well do it, brother.
Kirby screams “Boom MFer!!” (caught on camera) after Sony breaks through and wins the game the same day Richt apologizes on Twitter for grabbing an official’s arm and apologizing for “my language” tells you everything you need to know. The lid has truly been knocked off the program NOW!
The greatest game I’ve ever witnessed. It’s a Damn Good Day to be a Bulldawg fan!
That attorney in Savannah has just avoided a contempt of court, too! He owes the Dawgs bigly! 🙂
How would it feel to be a Barner right now? Two teams whose only loss each is to you are going to play for the Natty — and you aren’t.
War Damn Eagle has to be splitting in two with the loss to UCF. That was the Auburn team I knew before we played them the first time.
And now they have about 49,000,000 reasons they can’t fire Gus.
The Barners are in a bad spot now–and their coach is in a great spot. Go ahead and fire him now and spend all the money the athletic department has. LMAO!!
I never think of them.
What. A. Game!!! GO DAWGS.
I’m just speechless.
It took us till 4 minutes left in the Sugar Bowl to get back to my sis’s. Left at 3, saw the whole parade (screw you jerks who left the grandstands before the parade was over) and the greatest game I’ve seen in my 68 years.
Onward to the Natty! 2018 turns out to be a great year for fans of a great UGA team that has surpassed all my expectations – and led by a Freshman who was still playing HS ball same time last year.
To those Seniors who came back to make memories for their great grandkids, I offer a salute and “Well Done!” before we go into the National Championship game.
I can’t stop watching the highlights. Good god almighty what a game, what an environment. Can we play in the Rose Bowl every year?
I love each and every one of you.
To quote Erk Russell “Just one more time” next week. GATA
It’s almost hard to believe the same players were on the field for both defensive halves. Amazing game, and credit to Oklahoma. Their defense could have easily quit after Georgia got the ball back again at 38-31, and they didn’t.
Senator it just hit me – you weren’t the gentleman behind me in line at the hospitality bar in the PrimeSports tent after the game when we were groaning about people cutting the line, were you? I only ask because that man said exactly the same thing to me while were talking that you just posted here, and I reckon he had a bit of lawyerly ambiance about him in addition to being around the same age i imagine you are.
My wife and I couldn’t go to the Rose Bowl despite its relative proximity to our California home because we were occupied with visiting relatives from–ironically–back in Georgia who weren’t interested in football. We dropped them off at the San Jose airport after a mishap involving a lost driver’s license and raced home to watch the game, and now–again ironically–have already booked flights back to Atlanta for the natty. There is this little problem of getting tickets to the game, though….
Georgia fought the battle of Jericho, “and the walls came a tumblin’ down.
I can’t believe how much Mayfield reminded me of Colt Brennan! LOL.
Here are a few words, Senator: https://www.dawgnation.com/football/listen-bulldogs-radio-call-sony-michels-game-winning-touchdown-will-give-chills
So happy for Sony that he got to win the game after giving up the fumble TD.
What a DGD. We love you, Sony! Give us one more 180-yard game please. Thanks.
Amen and amen.
Greatest game in the history of the known universe. I’m still numb. Wish I could have heard Munson call it.
I told my family after the fumble, ‘Sony is going to have to be dead begore someone is going to keep him from personally winning this game for us.’ I even think I saw him tell Chubb “I blew it,” when the camera panned to them late in the game.
What an epic ending.
I gave up. I don’t drink or I would have been drunk by halftime. I was supposed to pick up my daughter from a friends house after the game. I left to get her at halftime. Because I gave up. By the time we returned to the house, the good guys had the lead. I knocked on the door and my family wouldn’t let me in. They said it would jinx the team. It was freezing outside. After the game, my son, smiling, says, “Dad, we’ve never made it to this point in my whole life. I’m so happy” – Yeah. This one will be legendary in our home.
Best game I’ve ever seen. Then again I might be biased.
I tried really hard not too dislike Mayfield, but man, that kid is an arrogant punk and I loved to see him cry like a child after the game.
You gave up, I did too. We were out if it and gone. Miracle.
The morning after:
It almost feels like a hangover after an awesome party…but no headache.
I went through every emotion! I think I created some new words…possibly a new language.
I can’t believe it. The Dawgs won the Rose Bowl and the defense did it against the #1 offense with the Heisman winning QB.
Now we have the match up I wanted Dawgs vs Bama, two SEC teams for the Natty. I hope I don’t regret my wish.
We’re on ‘house money’ anyway right? Funny in the first half last night it did not feel like ‘house money’. I wanted that win bad!
What a gift of great games this year has been. And the icing…a #1 recruiting class.
I know I’m babbling, I’m still dizzy from last night. What an emotional exhausting game!! So happy for the team.
Those of you who gave up…shame…
I gave up at 7 – 0 in the SEC Championship. For some reason I stayed positive for the first time ever during this game. I didn’t know if we’d win or not but I never thought we didn’t have a chance. What an effort from a team that surely never gave up.
Larry Munson would disagree. It’s in our DNA. Giving up doesn’t mean we stopped watching. I just didn’t see a Chaney offensive gameplan winning after being down 31-14.
Yeah, the offense wasn’t keeping pace at that point and there was no evidence the defense was going to stop them. Even if we kept pace the rest of the game we would have been behind by a couple of scores. The defense was awesome the second half. Not sure what adjustments were made but it worked. Mayfield seem frustrated and confused. I will have to re-watch it to see the details but possibly the DBs got more aggressive at the initial POA on the WRs. They let them run free in the first half. BM didn’t have to squeeze passes into any tight windows to start.
Just wow. Firstly, the wild dawg? When it worked the first time I immediately thought of you people here that prayed for its demise. Secondly, when Sony fumbled I told my wife that he would make up for it, they could have lost the game but Sony was going to do something to redeem himself, and he did. I’m so glad I recorded the game but now I wish I could watch some of those alternate channel views.
I believe the alternate views are online at ESPN / WatchESPN app.
This season reminds me of the scene from Great Balls of Fire when JLL sets the piano on fire so the next act could not out perform him. With a win next Monday, i might have to take a few years off to regain sanity. It is great to be a Georgia Bulldog!
If only Larry could have called it.
I don’t think Larry’s heart would have been able to handle that whole game!!! But it would have been so epic!!
Two simple words….Go Dawgs.
REVENGE IN THE BENZ II…really wished I had trademarked that a couple of weeks ago.
Sony Michel is STILL a steely-eyed missile man!
Folks, something we need to consider quickly. We play for a Championship next Monday night. Many of us have been here (GTP) for a long time and many have joined the ranks since. We have cried, yelled, consoled each other and we have celebrated together. What are the chances we can gather ourselves next Monday somewhere near MB and celebrate our season to that point? Much like many have done in Athens in the past. Blutarsky has provided a “place”, a community, and I wouldn’t expect him to do anymore than he has already done. Is there an interest in this? Is it more trouble than benefit?
Unbelievable. I woke up hungover as hell and grinning like an idiot.
People were literally running up to other UGA fans in the parking lot of the Rose bowl and hugging them at random. We really do have the best fanbases/teams/programs/all the things.
The Oklahoma fans in my section seemed as stunned by our passionate response as a fan base as they were by the result. I don’t think they’d ever seen that kind of joy.
Incredible game that will go down as a classic. Got one more to go though. Gotta finish the drill….or maybe I should say attack the day for one more week.
I believe it’s “chop some more wood!” Go Dawgs!!!
Best game I ever watched and I was in high school in 1980. My wife knew nothing of college football when we married in 2001. She cried tonight when Sony ran into the end zone in overtime. Then I started crying. Wonderful night all the way around.
Old Lady Luck was on our side last night.
I was 10 the last time we played for a chance at a NC. This feels amazing!
We’ve been a second half team all year, I was never worried until the scoop and score on Sony’s fumble, but our guys fought back and that’s what is so special about this team: OUR GUYS DON’T QUIT and they know that if the game is close at the end, they will have a chance to win, a true freshman QB calling shots like a boss, 2 senior running backs doing the work, and a nasty Junkyard D, what a script for a magical season,
GO DAWGS, GO SMART, GO SEC
I wanna party like it’s 1980!!
I still haven’t slept yet! Every Dawg including myself I talked to last night was in tears, joyous tears. One more Dawgs, one more.
still have a hoarse throat…both overtimes played right in front of our seats…what a comeback…all the dawg fans were screaming and hugging…the moment was beyond special…best money I ever spent.
