Gettin’ off the Gus Bus

Quite the reverse haul at Auburn:

Auburn cornerback Carlton Davis, tailback Kamryn Pettway and defensive end Jeff Holland are skipping their senior seasons to enter the NFL draft.

All three announced their decisions Wednesday on social media. Tailback Kerryon Johnson has also declared his plans to turn pro.

Four of his best players leaving early and an uninspired loss to UCF… Malzahn’s got to be relieved he got that monster contract extension out of the way first.

For Georgia fans, things just keep getting buttah and buttah.

So having their minds on going Pro help explains the lack-luster performance against UCF.

Well it was a combo of things. Why not run right the F at UCF and not side to side. Plus the turnover and my god how can anyone watch that offense for Auburn, it is frustrating to say the least.

If you can get away from the eye candy, the offense is high school simple. When they were forced to throw in the SEC game, they were running routes INTO coverage because their route combinations were so simple.

Add to that that a single rusher anywhere within yards of Stidham and he’s scrambling around like a chicken with his head cut off. Dude does not stand in the pocket well, and doesn’t move up into the pocket at all unless he’s running.

I think Holland was the only one who came out of the 3 game blitz intact (Dawgs-bama-Dawgs). Johnson hasn’t been the same since Evans knocked the hell out of him. Davis didn’t make it through the secc, and Pettway missed just about all of the season.

I’m trying to decide which school’s fans are showing less class right now. The few Tennessee fans I know are spouting off about UCF…they were very disappointed when Georgia beat OK. The many AU fans I know insist Alabama shouldn’t be in the playoffs and won’t congratulate either team.
I suspect they have looked into their crystal balls. Not good for them.

Auburn gives Gus this huge pay raise and contract extension after he beats us and Bama, alll the while Arkansas is suppuposedly sniffing around his ass, then he loses the SEC and then to UCF! Way to go Aubie! All in, indeed. Better go throw the butt tape iin those oak trees!

Auburn has a history of firing its head football coach after only one bad season no matter how successful that coach may have been previously. Hell, until they pulled off the phenomenal and beat #1 Georgia and #1 Bama back to back they were going to fire him after this season. Gus out-thunk ’em this time. If they fire him now it’s really gonna hurt. I predict the Barners will have a marginal season next year and fire Gus anyway but Gus will be smiling all the way to the bank. 😉

Yes, Mayor you are dead on. Gus has pulled on those he reports to what we call in my field a “Goat ***$”
And let me say as a Georgia fan it is a pleasure to watch. Schadenfreude and Karma be damned, I couldn’t have picked a better bunch of assholes for it to happen to.

Can you give me a hint what those asterisks stand in place of? And just what kind of field are you in? Or am I better off not knowing?

Loose lips sink ships, Dolly. But; (1) I put the dollar sign at the end for a reason, and (2) It ain’t animal husbandry.

    • It truly is amazing that they gave him an 7 year extension. I think Auburn goes backward next year and the fans will scream but I don’t think they will fire Gus unless he pulls a Butch and goes winless in the SEC. They don’t have a replacement for Jay Jacobs yet and the only announced AD candidate that I could see pulling the plug Gus after next season is Tuberville. I figure that every other candidate will give Gus two seasons before firing Malzahn.

By the way, Auburn has a chance to lose 3 consecutive games in the same stadium, which is NOT their home stadium.

That has to be an all time first, right?

The players should get half of Gus’ fat contract because they saved his job.

I haven’t heard enough analysts note that the Barners were a steaming pile outside of Jerden Hair. I think Gus should be asked about that, because I myself want to know why they were so mentally not-tough.

I creeped on a couple Aubren message boards Tuesday just to see what they were saying about their two biggest rivals playing each other for the NC. Those dudes are losing their minds. The funny thing is most of them are pulling for Bama because they think they’ll catch less crap.

They also like the “Alabama is home to football champions” meme. They are far more intermarried than they care to talk about, also. Few purely AU or UA families.

    • On Campus Conversation the other night, Brett McMurphy said that November 2017 was one of the best months ever for Auburn fans. They beat their two biggest rivals in football when each of the rivals were the #1 team in the land. Then he said that December/January 1st might have been their worst month ever – they lost the SEC Championship, got knocked out of the CFP, had their two biggest rivals get into the playoff at their expense, then they lost to UCF in the bowl game, then, later that night, saw their two biggest rivals win their playoff games which ensured that one of them will win the NC.

Malzahn is relieved, Saban is relieved, Kirby is relieved. What if it came out years later that Kirby and Saban colluded to lose to Auburn in 2017 in order to keep Simple Gus around for the long haul?

It also bears remembering that the entire AU offensive line was made up of seniors. The Gus Bus will be without his best 2 running backs, a top cornerback, a top defensive end and Trigga Trey, the leader of the defense, is gone too.

6-6 is a real possibility for the barn next season. I’m sure the AU fans won’t mind the ticket price and donation increase to pay for that 7 year extension. Jay Jacobs really gave the AU faithful the gift that keeps on giving.

What’s even funnier is stupid polls will pre season rank them number 5.

I came here to say that as well. That offensive line loses 4 of 5 starters and 6 of 10 in the two deep. Losing all these guys…yeah they could really go for a tailspin.
