Textbook downfield blocking

I mentioned in my Rose Bowl Observations post how much I love Ridley’s effort on this Michel TD run…

… and after watching it for the umpteenth time, I realize that love might be an understatement.

Our WRs blocked their asses off. In addition to Ridley, Simmons laid out one of their safeties on the first offensive snap and had a great block on the game winner by Sony. Hell, even Fromm had a great block on the last TD when he lined up out wide. I think the physicality message has been fully implemented.

For whatever reason, OUs safeties weren’t interested in run support. AL is a different animal.

Was thinking the same things when watching Chubb’s first TD. That thing goes for 10-12 against Alabama. Oklahoma’s free safety wanted no part of tackling.

Just curious how many times y’all have rewatched the game. I’m on six and probably working in a couple more today.

I’m at three, having rewatched the original broadcast, the hometown broadcast and the Finebaum coaches version. Plan to watch the whole field All 22 replay tonight. After 45 years of watching, 37 in championship purgatory, I can’t seem to get enough of this team!

What makes it doubly great to me is that Ridley probably hasn’t had the type of season he wanted to from a stats perspective, not that it’s necessarily his fault.

But, he’s behind a junior and a senior, so I still think the sky’s the limit for him.

Again, though, awesome effort and execution on that block.
