Jesus, I don’t know what depresses me the most about this article, that there’s consideration to move Finebaum’s show to Atlanta, that “the city leaders want it”, or that Finebaum would have plenty of other options if things with ESPN don’t work out.
In any event, I think I’m heading towards another just shoot me moment.

You’re looking at this the wrong way. Finebaum in Atlanta would quickly turn into a dawg love fest. He would enrage Tech by either ignoring or belittling them. As long as we keep winning, this move would be a net plus for us. He’d turn on us in second if we slip, but in the meantime he’d expect him to be an asset.

I don’t listen much, but I thought the few times I checked in, that he got calls of fans from everywhere: Notre Dame, Nebraska, Michigan, Ohio State. When he was in Birmingham he got some of those but pretty much refused to take UAB callers.
It may be sec-centric but I think the show’s subject matter is college football writ large.

His show from 2:00 – 3:00 covers all of CFB, and 3:00 – 7:00 is SEC-centric. That said, you are correct that be takes on callers from all over and talks about other conferences.

I disagree. Finebaum is an Alabama homer and will never change. Even if the Dawgs win it all he will only give us lip service at best.

You weren’t listening when Shula was the coach or when the NCAA was snooping around. Bama fans fucking hated Finebaum until Saban starting winning big. He’s been on their bandwagon because that’s what he does. He’s all about patting the winners on the back and kicking the losers while they’re down.
Perfect timing for that guy to be in Atlanta.

No matter where the show is housed the every day callers who just want to hear themselves on TV ruin it for me. The number of callers identifying themselves as Georgia fans are minimal when I do watch. I just don’t see how these callers can continue to carry water for the SECN and keep ratings.

I’m with you. I like his guest interviews but once the callers start I’m pretty much done. Maybe the day Bama gets put on probation you ck it out because that’s always fun.
I also really hated when Bama and Auburn (with scam) were up so he just decided it was time to try and fuck with us. It frustrated him that he really couldn’t get the reaction he wanted from us.
The bottom line tho is that shows like his create narratives for casual fans, of which there are millions. Those narratives become reputations and sometimes they even mirror each other and the reality.

Darrell makes up for the limited number. I’ve heard him from time to time on other radio shows that takes calls. For some reason the calls are seen as a big part of the show. I watch when something is up in the SEC because he has some good guest who are a little more candid in that format.

I think this anonymous source is probably Finebaum himself. Who else would call him “the voice of college football?” Also, why is the SEC Network based in Charlotte of all places?

I thought the same thing – maybe if you live in LA a/k/a Lower Alabama, he is the voice of college football, but that’s only because whatever station he’s on is the only one their antennas can pick up…
My recollection is that the SEC Network is in Charlotte because ESPN had built up a large studio/facility there to cover NASCAR, and then after it went in the crapper, rather than shut it down and build a new facility for the SEC, they killed two birds with one stone.

Not to excuse the behavior of a grown man, but without Paul Finebaum stirring the pot, those trees don’t get poisoned. I can’t take the ignorami that call in–it’s not funny, it’s just weak filler. A new trend I like when hosts want to engage fans is to address the better online comments without verbal engagement with just any ole joe. That and you can never have enough professional on-air guests.

I like his show and think he is fair to all teams. Those who think he is a Bama homer should realize he graduated from UT. A lot of callers are fun, and some are a bore. An SEC fan who is not listening to Finebaum right now is IMO akin to an adult drama TV fan not watching Game of Thrones. You are missing out on some popular discussions.

Finebaum show is entertaining and sometimes annoying. Often too Bama-centric for my liking but he takes calls from stem to stern on his program, which is unique. What passes for ATL sports “talk” is simply chatter between hosts bantering about their interesting lives and occasionally some sports thrown in.for good measure. In a college crazy market like ATL, Finebaum would bury the competition.

FBomb has been an Alabama homer ever since hois career took him to Bama, doesn’t matter where he went to school. Where ever he sets up shop, it will always be dominated by the lowest end of the Bama/AU fan bases (and that is really down there). I thought when he went from statewide radio to satellite radio he would not let those crazies dominate the calls, I was wrong. Took 4 hours of the radio day away from Sirius/XM, just couldn’t take it. He is better on SEC Nation because of the surrounding panel and no callers from down under. (Likes me some Marcus Spears.)
