I can’t blame Shane Beamer for taking advantage of the opportunity, but I sure wonder if Kirby wishes he’d have done so before Mississippi State poached Scott Fountain.

You really think Kirby won’t get Scott Fountain if he doesn’t want him? Athens > Starkville. Playoffs > Belk Bowl. $$$$$$ > $$$.
You really think he can get Fountain for the same price now that he could have had him for a couple of weeks ago?
In any event, there’s bound to be more effort involved to bring him back, if that’s what Smart wishes. Not to mention the disruption to recruiting.
Fountain was making $115,000. Beamer was making $300,000. My guess is MSU ain’t paying him $300,000. Also, the announcement was Jan. 12. Heck, that’s 10 days ago. I’d bet his family hasn’t even started packing. He’s got 4 boys. I’d imagine they were planning to finish the school year in Athens.
You may be right that we would’ve gotten him on the cheap, but I’d bet we don’t have to pay him any more than Beamer. He’d probably get a raise to come back to Athens, check out of that Starkville Hotel, and come sleep in his own bed…
…if Kirby wants him.

It sounds like Luke Ford (kid from Illinois) isn’t happy about it. I hope Kirby handles this as quickly as possible.
He already deleted the tweet. Plus, he signed already. No backsies!
The biggest reason he signed with UGA was because of his relationship with Justin Fields. he said early fall that he was going where Justin goes. Yeah, i’m sure he’s upset; but i think he’ll be at UGA.
Commit to the “G”.
OU had a TE that was highly regarded but was shut down with a so-so secondary.
Funny thing about money.
Causes people to “walk”…”money talks”.
I’d check with Fountain, but I would go with John Lilly.
Bring him back. Seems like our TEs under Lilly were very productive catching, blocking, and running.
Lilly is a very good coach. After all he served as OC and HC in bowls. Think he was winning coach both times.

Will, I like the idea of Lilly as well. My only question is about special teams.
Get’em both (Lilly and Fountain), but suspect that would impact Summers.
Lilly can carve up a Todd Grantham defense, that’s for sure. See Belk Bowl, 2014. He’s a class act, too, and a good recruiter.
I didn’t know fountain was gone and I am more concerned about him than Beamer. Is there a list of the coaches and support staff who have moved out and moved in?
Count me as kinda surprised Kirby hasn’t already named his 10th assistant. As with the quick hire of Lanning, I figured he’d have a short list ready before the new year kicked in.
Still not sure who deserves the lions share of credit for ST improvement between ‘16 and ‘17 – Beamer, Fountain, or even Butler. But whomever the driving force was, we should do our damnedest to keep him. If it’s Fountain, it’s fairly easy to up the price and bring him back.
I wish we could rehire John Lilly for the TEs and get Fountain back for STs. Even if we had to pay Fountain 300k, IMO it would be worth it I know … it’s easy to spend other people’s money.
To put it nicely, I’m not sure Lily and Kirby are relational fits. I wouldn’t count on him being in Athens.
