One of the fantastic things about this past season for me was checking off not one, but two, cherished bucket list items, the trips to Notre Dame and the Rose Bowl.
In that light, I just want to make clear that if this one comes up for Georgia, I’ll take a pass.

I just don’t get why anyone would want to attend a game there. Wouldn’t the views be just awful?

There were plenty of “awful” views at the Rose Bowl. Just ask the elderly lady in front of us who cried the whole 1st quarter because she had NO chance of seeing anything because everyone stop on their seats. If the overtimes hadn’t been played right int from to us it would have really sucked.

Actually, sightlines were great in the Rose Bowl. People standing in front of you has nothing to do with the stadium. Oh, and the first 5 rows of any stadium suck, too.

You sat near me. I felt awful for her and did not understand why everyone was on the seats, but there we were.

When you look at the panorama site it gives a good idea. The seats in the first row of the end zone are right on the field and there are all kinds of people walking around right in front of them. I had done enough research on our seats to know what was coming but not everyone was able to do that. I just hope that lady found something after the half that allowed her to see.

Yes, terrible. I know quite a few UT and VT folks who attended that game, and they said that, aside from some of the pomp and circumstance, the game was awful from a viewer standpoint, and the stands are insanely far away from the field. None of them said they would ever return there if another game was played.

I disagree entirely, I thought all the seats seemed close to the field for a stadium that size.
My complaint was that the enormous posts that the field goal net was strung between absolutely killed the view for me the entire second half as it blocked the hash Mark they were playing from.
Overall I loved the Rose bowl tough. Great experience.

Not enough recruits in Appalachia to get Saban or Meyer’s attention.

Tennessee Ohio St would be an interesting match up in that game and both fan bases would buy tickets. Ohio St would also be putting their name on SEC TV sets even if Tennessee does not have talent. It would just about have to be Tennessee vs Michigan, Ohio St, Penn St, or ND team to be a success.

Tennessee without a 2nd thought. OSU is up there with ND for most disliked without Urban. I would be pulling for the Vols not only to win but blow them out.

On second thought I’ll agree with you in part, Otto. They could pound each other to pieces ala 2017 UT v gt, then OSU could lose to UT in double overtime. That would be OK.

A coworker is a UT fan and went to the game, they said the view was terrible. I very much doubt I would go. UT just about has to be in the game for it to sell out.

Racing at Bristol, yes. Football…no.
Seeing the NASCAR night race at Bristol is well worth the experience. I don’t follow NASCAR anymore but if someone was interested in seeing one event to see what it is all about I would definitely say Bristol at night should be the first choice to attend. I have been to Darlington, Atlanta, Charlotte, Las Vegas, Richmond, Daytona, Talledega and Bristol (at night) is hands down the best experience.

He ain’t lyin. Bristol by far is the best race I’ve ever attended. It’s like watching cars race on a roulette wheel.
Talledega far and away has the best camping and people watching scene.

Bristol is a boatload of fun and a great party and, oh yeah, there are 3 races as well 8-).
It would suck as a football stadium, though. Well, since they have done it, i guess the proper way to put it is “it sucks as a football stadium.”
Bristol and Dega are the best parties ever–especially the “new” fall date at Dega in the Snake Pit on the camp grounds…
Tailgating at a SEC football game is vanilla family fun compared to what goes on at a NASCAR race after dark.
My list is (in order of the number of times I have been there) Atlanta (since the 1970’s), Dega, Darlington, Bristol, Daytona, Nashville (used to happen), North Wilkes (used to happen), Rockingham (you know what goes here), Charlotte (have they ever fixed the bump in turn one?), Richmond, and Martinsville (good hot dogs).
Back when NASCAR Race Control was in the clear on the scanner, and the drivers weren’t worried about people listening and would say exactly what they thought and meant, and the party went on until dawn the day before–that was a load of fun.
Not going to a football game at Bristol.

I went to the Battle at Bristol (wife went to school there). And, yes, don’t go. We literally had the worst view of anyone to ever attend a football game in the history of mankind…….row 1, almost dead center of the turn. Not only were they ants a mile away but we were in the endzone. The highlight of the game was us leaving at halftime and doing things married folks do but in the back of the SUV. So, I guess it was bucket listy ?!

I’d probably go because that’s what I do but I hope Georgia doesn’t play there. I’d rather pay the big bucks to get a ticket to play on another campus or in a neutral football venue. Does Georgia need to stoop to such a gimmick?

Other than seeing a national championship win in person, I kinda feel like my bucket list is full. Hosting ND will be a big deal.
What else is left to do?
At UM, OSU or PSU doesn’t rank with ND for me.
I’m ready for a trip back to Bryant-Denny. I’ve seen our last 3 there, but the next one should be at another level.

Toughest so far IMHO would be the 76 game vs Bama…at least since I’ve been going since the 60’s….I can’t remember further back than that because I wasn’t born. 🙂

Archie Who game was the toughest in Athens I can recall. Got shut out that game, only time that has happened to me. Of course, I doubt I had the money back then to apply more leverage.
Just wait, ND fans plan to repay the “takeover” when they come to Athens. I don’t think they know that few UGA fans will sell their tickets, especially for that game. I doubt they double the 8K, or so, they are allotted through their own school. Over/under 15K is my guess.

Why do you say that? If it’s anything like the game in South Bend, people from all over Georgia are going to try to get their hands on tickets if they aren’t season ticket holders. I bet we see plenty of ND folks there especially from Atlanta and Charlotte.

Because it was South Bend. The draw was the location as much as the opponent. We’ll never play in South Bend again in our lifetime. Bucket list trip. Notre Dame in Athens is just like any other big game at home.

I think the opposite will drive demand by ND fans. They know this is probably their one chance to see a game in a venue with as much history and tradition as TD Jesus.
For a lot of Georgia people (people like me who didn’t make the South Bend trip), this will their one chance to see ND in person.
This isn’t going to be like any other big game in Athens. Just my opinion.

This sort of seems like a thing that worked because of Bristol’s proximity to UT and Va Tech and that UT-VaTech hasn’t happened all that much. This isn’t a game in Atlanta or Dallas or anything like that. Feels more like a particular, one-off sort of deal.

The only bucket list games I have left are Army-Navy and at game at Husky Stadium. Oh, and Georgia v. Texas.

We have done that (UGA v Texas).
In what was arguably one of the worst displays of offense in a college football game of all time.
I was watching (after a work shift) at the 5th Quarter, and when Lastinger looked left at the safety, and knew he had enough room to drive to the near corner of the end zone, the entire bar erupted. It was good times.

My Uncle was at that game. My top remaining games are UGA at Clemson the Red River Shoot Out (OU vs Texas), and Auburn or LSU at Florida. I have been to Tiger Bowl on the Plains and in Baton Rouge. I am hoping to make the trip this fall for UGA/LSU.
Everyone should make an Iron Bowl with 1 team in the running for a national title. It is an interesting experience.

UF stadium and fans are right at the top of the list for a ghastly experience. Autzen Stadium is the only other venue, I have attended that comes close. Truly sucky fans at both.

Unfortunately, I was there in 95 (or was it 94). The best thing was we could leave the stadium and get hammered in the bar before going back and watch us get hammered on the field.

I was there. It was a glorious display of defensive football, and a typical Vince Dooley game, close the vest and wait for the other team’s mistake.
There was a condescending Texas fan (yes, I know that’s redundant) in front of us telling us before the game how we were pretty good, but we’d never seen anything like Texas before. After we won, I thought he was going to cry. My buddy looked at him and then just said “nah, nevermind”, like he wasn’t even worth the comment. It was great.

That was a great win fir UGA, but that game epitomizes Georgia football under Vince. So boring, may be what made Munson so legendary because the game was much better on radio than actually watching it.

I’d like to go the Texas – OU game one time to enjoy the fair and see the game in (hopefully) better weather. Since my wife is a UT grad, I have a rooting interest now, though without the significant emotional baggage that comes with my Georgia obsession.

For Husky Stadium, go in Sept. or early October. The sun is out and the view is amazing. After early October, it does get dicey. still a great setting by the lake, but when the mountain is out-can not be beat. Also, try to see them against Oregon.

Horrendous. Hard pass. I’ve been to 1 race at Bristol and while it was a great time, it took 3 hours to go 10 miles to our hotel post race. Only way I’d do it would be in an RV and stay the weekend and I’m afraid those days have passed for me.

I got to go to South Bend and Pasadena, too, and it’s hard to imagine anything topping those experiences, both in terms of venue and outcome. (Caveat: obviously, winning a national championship.) I would like to go to College Station at some time, if it’s not too much trouble to Commissioner Sankey.

I’ve been to College Station, but not for a football game. Wife one was interested in going there for graduate school, so, when we were in the area for a horse show, we did a campus tour.
It is very flat, but a nice enough place, really. We would have been ok there.
She wound up going to vet school instead (not there), but it was an ok place. And the BBQ places around it were just wonderful.

I’ll date myself, but I’ve been to Bonfire. ’91 or ’92. I’ve never been to a game there though. I imagine when we finally make the trek it’ll be a pricey ticket.
