I blush with embarrassment for my FU neighbors. She has learned that playing cozy with gerrymanders will not necessarily save your butt, although it will get you into office.

Down there she has to reapply to vote when she gets out and has to go before a kangaroo parole board that includes the Gov. for approval That way, the black vote (with 5x the incarceration of whites) is suppressed by the thousands, enough to swing the vote to Republicans in the gerrymandered districts.
Who in hell would be worried about the Russian interference in our democracy when it can be homegrown?

Sad to see how many leftist sheep see the world as “black or “white”, Democrat or Republican, and not evil/good, right/wrong. Not to say there aren’t bad conservatives who do this as well, but it is so much a small radical group on the right versus the buy-in of mainstream Dims led by the radicals in their party. Case in point, this lost soul above wandering around in a smoke, or cookie fog and spouting such stupidity. It is discouraging to see how obsessed the left “leadership” is about dividing the country because they are willing to sell the country down the rabbit hole just to stay in power.
It doesn’t matter what the racial composition in the prisons is, lock up the criminals, black or white. The high percentage of inmates that are black isn’t because of skin color, it is because of the actions they committed. And those actions relate back to the family environment, discipline, and culture. Work on fixing that and you will see the numbers change. I honestly don’t care if the racial mix in prisons is 90% black or white, just get the criminals off the street (with a strong lean to the violent ones.) What I see every day on the local news is disgusting, and troubling for our society.
As for “gerrymandering” on the voting district lines, it is wrong regardless of party affiliation, and it has been with us for many decades, employed by both parties. I saw the worst case of this ever conceived when I lived in NC. A district was created in a line from Charlotte to Durham, and referred to as the I-85 District. It was basically the interstate, and property immediately adjacent to it near certain exits….whatever was required to get a black Congressman elected. It is wrong when it is done to help Dimocrats, or Republicans. In fact, it is wrong how parties have taken control over the legislative voting process and usurping the greater need of the country and their constituents. No room for negotiation, no thought of consequences. Happens on both sides of the aisle, wrong every time. So don’t take one example and assume you have addressed the issue, stop re-spitting the propaganda you have swallowed.

I think you are probably mistaken about the gerrymandering in NC. Those districts were drawn by conservative legislators to draw a district that most certainly would be won by a Democratic candidate of color (which fulfills federal election mandates) all the while maximizing white Republican candidates.

I am not mistaken, you are letting your own bias cloud your judgement, and comment. It was specifically drawn to insure a Dimocrat, black specifically, to be elected. I actually wasn’t pissed at the time because I understood the objective, it made some sense in a “affirmative action” (I know, racist) sort of way. One of the reasons was Dims hadn’t flipped completely out and begun its attack on America at that point. There were some actual Dimocrats who voted with their heads/hearts, would actually meet with the opposition party and hammer out deals that the country needed to get done. That time has certainly passed, and I am not sure how to get back to that as both parties seem to now be controlled by the irrational extremists on both the left and right.

I didn’t excuse her of anything – she is a power hungry crook who finally got caught because she and another woman were so stupid that they thought they could just set up in DC and the people there would be as stupid as the rest of the politicians and voters in Fl. She deserves more time than she got.

Actually Gerrymandering has been around for more than “many decades”, it dates back to the founding of the republic. The following is from Encyclopedia Britannica:
“Gerrymandering, in U.S. politics, drawing the boundaries of electoral districts in a way that gives one party an unfair advantage over its rivals. The term is derived from the name of Governor Elbridge Gerry of Massachusetts, whose administration enacted a law in 1812 defining new state senatorial districts. The law consolidated the Federalist Party vote in a few districts and thus gave disproportionate representation to Democratic-Republicans. The outline of one of these districts was thought to resemble a salamander. A satirical cartoon by Elkanah Tisdale appeared in the Boston Gazette; it graphically transformed the districts into a fabulous animal, “The Gerry-mander,” fixing the term in the popular imagination.”

Gerrymandering was outlawed and the courts continue to tell states to redistrict every year. When they do, there seems to be no oversight to see that the redistricting satisfies the law. And it keeps on and on because there are no teeth in the law to have recalls, declare elections invalid, etc.

On the surface, this is really funny. This Brown lady is a clown, and a criminal (Not an especially talented one, IMO) so Karma as usual rules the day.
The worrisome part of this is that the aforementioned Clown-imal is in an elected position to begin with. Is ex-congresswoman Brown a true representative of her constituents?

Her constituents were 90% black after the Florida Republicans gerrymandered her district that has since been changed, but looked like a lightening bolt from the Ga – Fl border down nearly to Gainesville. Instead of protesting the rigged setup that protected Republicans by taking black voters out of their district who could vote against them, she accepted the situation because it put her in office. She represented no one except herself.

I saw that little nugget somewhere after I heard she had been accused. I understood it that she had arranged to have the voting lines drawn to encompass as much of the African American populous as she could, catching a racially sympathetic vote to keep her office.
I agree she was completely mercenary in doing so.

At least someone is looking up the facts instead of just reacting. Instead of protesting before the election, she went along with the illegal district provided because she only wanted to have the power, not represent the people in her gerrymandered district. And my knowledge comes from working in elections down in N. Fl.
Would imagine that Mac gets his facts from some other source. More crimes are committed by whites in Fl, but the incarceration rate is skewed such that many more blacks are taken from the voting rolls and illegally kept from voting after they are freed. It is an additional penalty added by the white Republican legislators that’s added onto the time done for the crime.

How can you run for office if you aren’t a registered voter? She won’t be able to even vote until after several years past her release from prison and after applying to a Republican-appointed parole board that has the Gov including himself without his being appointed. It’s called voter suppression by the party that runs the state because the system was never voted on at the ballot box. Her punishment extends beyond enacted laws in the state of Florida.

Not really sure it’s “party” that comes to their mind. I think it may be considerably more superficial than that.
This is a group of people for whom calling Mexican rapists is acceptable political commentary if not an attractive attribute in a candidate. This is a group of people “who wanted their country back” and wanted proof of citizenship for a candidate like Obama, but couldn’t have cared less when Ted Cruz, a naturally born Canadian, ran for the same office.
However, if a politician of Mexican or African heritage pointed out the demographics of your average:
Child molester
Child pornographer
Child pornography possessor
Serial killer
Mass shooter
was disproportionately a white male, “but some, I assume, are good people” those same people would lose their minds and see no hypocrisy in themselves.

Since Arpaio has been pardoned, does that mean his conviction never happened? I honestly don’t know the mechanics of it. If someone did a criminal background check on him, does it show convicted and pardoned, or is it expunged from his record?

It doesn’t make any difference weather Arpaio was pardoned .paroled or had his conviction expunged …it was misdemeanor contempt of a judge. Misdemeanors do not now nor have they ever prohibited the defendant from running for or holding public office. Additionally depending on the associated press to either hear ,transcribe or more importantly understand the legal import of what is said in a courtroom is to give the AP more credit for competency than in my life experience should be granted them.( I’ve been misquoted more often than they got it right) So either the Judge is as 69 said “full of shit” or equally likely reporter doesn’t understand. Almost everyone in Georgia is guilty of having both committed and plead guilty to misdemeanors because traffic laws are by default misd. and punishable by $1000.00 fine and 6 to 12 months in jail. Yes it is stupid as shit but it is the law. I would also point out anyone can run for office but Corrine and her Florida Masters degree got elected numerous times. Running is one thing winning is another……..Who did Marion Berry run against? A heroin addict? Thank you ,Chris

There is a long list of self-serving, ‘ugly’ politicians on both sides of the isle…as well as racists…and bigots of all color. I’ve noticed that posters here have blinders on when it comes to the sins of the party or race or religion in which they relate and bright spotlights for those they hate. It’s sad really. The people/voters should be looking at integrity, character, values (of all kind) and qualifications for the position held, as a means for determining their support. According to the Bible, the Jews chose to release a murderer in the place of one who served the poor. It has always been this way and it will not change…ever.

Where were the crowds that traveled long distances to see him? Or even just the local fans? Where were the apostles? Where was the blind man saying, “Free Jesus, for I was blind and now I see!”
There was a reason he was on that cross.
