“Yeah, that guy Stetson, he’s phenomenal.”

(Ken Ward/special to DawgNation)

So why is Bennett paying his own way and merely playing scout team at Georgia, rather than on scholarship and starting at a smaller program?

Part of it is he just wanted to go to Georgia, where both his parents attended. But the other part is his height. Bennett is generously listed at 6-foot in the media guide.

“He can play probably at any school he wants to right now and be up for starting if he was just a little taller,” Georgia safety J.R. Reed said. “But the kid, he can play. I love him.”

I’m glad he’s a Dawg.  But, man, the over-hyping by some fans…

Can’t wait to hear the reaction when he turns in the top G-Day QBR.

“Bless your heart”……me thinks this post is more about Eason than Stetson. Why can’t you just let go of the man crush and move on?? He ain’t coming back. He chose to leave, be happy for him. Maybe Eason will get some snaps with his new team.

Who knows how Stetson will work out…not a bad HS player. Glad he is a dawg too.

Is Stetson giving a slight nod to Doug Flutie with his choice of number there of 22?

Easy, easy, Senator Blutarsky. I, too, am on the Stetson hype train! In all honesty, seeing his high school highlights had me believing that he has some true talent and athleticism. Maybe he can’t beat Jake Fromm and Justin Fields, but I’d love to see him get some late game snaps this year. It’d also be great to see him stick it out two more years, graduate early, and then get an assist from Kirby Smart to get a scholarship and opportunity to be an undersized playmaker at some place like Wake Forest, UVA, UCF, etc.

People love a backup QB though. But there is absolutely no way in hell that he runs a legit 4.5 40.

Watch his high school highlights though, and the dude has some real Johnny Manziel wheels on him. He’s got those weeble wobble ankles and escaping quickness. His helmet looks bigger than his body though, so it is hard to judge his true speed.

I’ve seen him up close. There is no way he is six foot tall. How bout Sam Vaughn gettin’ some love? 6′ 3 1/2 ” 215 lbs.

I guess he’s “not your average walkon” in that he at least had some small school scholarship offers. However, compared to our previous 3rd string QBs, the difference is pretty obvious. Ramsey was a 4* recruit with offers from Bama, Clemson, Florida, FSU, tOSU and many others. Bauta was a 3* recruit with offers from BC, Louisville, WVU and others. Park was a 4* with offers from Bama, Auburn, FSU, ND and others.

Anybody that puts on the red and black has my support, and I’m glad Bennett is with us. But to think he’s a better QB than the previous backups is a stretch.

You’re likely talking about the same bunch of fans who compared Faton Bauta favorably with Tim Tebow, Senator.

    A. I think it’s hilarious/awesome that he is wearing Brendan Douglas’ number (a white running back).

    B. I can attest that playing small time college ball is cool and all, but I’d rather be in Athens. Especially as a scout team qb. The least amount of pressure and the least amount of punishment. Keep your grades up, and you keep the Hope Scholarship. Plus, he might get a football scholarship by his senior season. Also, the contacts you make if you want to get a GA spot are priceless.

It’s just a feel-good story. A great kid from the edge of the Okefenokee Swamp wants to play for UGA. He turns down an Ivy League offer! And he’s pretty good. His high school films show some nice qualities. Nobody thinks he’s competing for # 1… but if 1 or 2 goes down, he’s probably going to be right there on the sideline as the #2. And I don’t think anybody on the team would see a reason to panic. He’s a Dawg. He’s already made his mark in Bulldawg lore with his scout team part playing Baker Mayfield an the other QB’s the Dawgs put away last year.
