Check out the vantage from Northwestern’s fancy new IPF.
I have to admit that might get my ass out of bed in the morning to get my workout done. Nice.

The views of Lake Michigan in the morning and early evenings are beautiful. However, that photo wasn’t taken during the winter when the lake is frozen over and you can see steam rising from the ice. Guess that wouldn’t have made it nearly as enticing to recruits. 😉

And by the way, we had an inch of snow come down on April 9th the day before the photo was taken. The Cubs home opener was even postponed. As they say, timing is everything.

Yeah, I wonder what the view is like in November/December when the snow blows off the lake onto those windows. Then it’s going to look like a snow cave.

Would think it would be heated. True? Anyone ever heard of winter sports in frozen country? Ski-kiting, snowmobiling, cross-country skiing and even ice fishing appeals to me in these areas. If sunshine-only football players can be swayed by the climate, would think that S. California would outdraw the South.

Ok so the best recruits are from the South and snowdrifts outside the windows probably won’t entice them as much as this will, but come on. A frozen lake, with ice crystallizing on the enormous storefront windows, wind whipping snow through the air while Steve Warmbody and his teammates go full contact during prep for a bowl game? That’s some pretty striking imagery.

Let’s see what happens the first time they throw an out pattern or kick the football.
But then again, you know what they say about people who live in glass houses…

Too distracting. Did you come hear to work, or watch the lake?

don’t worry, coach. I’m guessing our recruits prefer the view walking across campus, or of a full stadium on game day, or strolling downtown Athens on a Saturday night, to whatever they’re going to see at Ice Station Zebra at Northwestern. Bless their purple hearts.

Don’t look now, but they are situated in a nice neighborhood of Chicago and have Brazilians of choices for night life. And, if you are referring to drankin’ , need I tell you the favorite indoor sport in cold climes?

Btw, liked your purple heart reference.

I’ll never forget going up to Evanston to audition for their school of music. It’s a very nice university.

Man, some of y’all will hate on anything. Sheesh. It’s OK for other schools to have nice things! I don’t anticipate Northwestern University ever beating out Georgia for a football recruit that we really want. And if it ever DOES happen, it will likely not become the norm. This is a beautiful building with an incredible view and it’ll probably be beautiful even when it’s icy outside.

When I attended UGA after service, a friend and fellow vet who was born and raised in Athens (and who was in law school) played in a foursome of bridge with our wives. He met his wife at NU and they often spoke of the people and campus. Later, while working in the area for several years, I visited their NU campus on a couple of lecture occasions. It is truly beautiful by day and night.
We discussed football often and I began to appreciate their zeal for NU, but there was a dark undercurrent concerning their football program that caused them to cheer relentlessly against ND. Seems that their successful NU FB coach, Ara Parseghian, had been sucked away by ND just as NU was achieving national prominence. Having attended many UGA games with the two, I’m sure they were in South Bend this year rooting with great zeal for UGA and cursing the Irish. Years later I wondered if they would have been conflicted if they had known I went to South Bend and cheered for the Irish vs GT.

no building ever motivated me to get out of a warm bed in the dark. They better have a helluva HVAC system because those windows don’t provide much insulation when the building is in the middle of a huge ice cube 5 months of the year. As 81 said ,”bless their hearts”
