Now here’s an observation I never thought I’d see during my lifetime, from the New York Times analysis of Sony Michel being drafted by the Patriots:
… But while he’s a strong runner for his size, he does not, at this point, make the sharp cuts that are expected in the N.F.L. and there is a belief that he was somewhat of a product of Georgia’s excellent blocking scheme. [Emphasis added.]
Is Sam Pittman still underpaid? Discuss.
Did the Times writer look at a single video of Sony? Last night they were raving about his ability to make people miss and run people over. Bunch of idiots! Fake News indeed!

No kidding. I’ve went back and watched all of our games, except the NCG, at least once and the ONE big difference, and it is big, is the ability of Michel to cut and leave would be tacklers running out of their shoes.

The emphasis placed on blocking has really escalated since the hiring of Kirby. Not just OL-men but WRs and RBs…and we have the nerve to ask why the TEs are not more involved in the passing game 😉

2 of the 3 were on offense plus the next UGA player to be drafted is likely Nick Chubb, and I’m not worried about the offense.

Sony’s incredible cutting ability is what makes him such an amazing back. Maybe they confused him with someone else?

Seriously man. WTH tape were they watching?

That’s why they selected Isaiah Wynn with their first pick.

Or the entire OU defense. Sony proved his worth over 4 years, pretty sure that no one was raving about UGA’s awesome OL this time last year, or since way before Sony got to Athens. The blocking this year WAS money, but it isn’t a zero sum equation. Sony was money, too.

Exactly. Explain his production years 1-3 with sub-par offensive line. And ask Florida how well he cuts.

THAT play in particular was one of the most spectacular cuts I’ve ever witnessed.

Does that mean that UGA has a better blocking scheme than the Patriots? Wow!!!

When the patriots are drafting your players, it’s a good sign. They seem to be planning to put four Dawgs on the field on offense at the same time.

Actually, the laziness of the author amazes me. RBs must be able to block, catch and then run in today’s game. Michel is an excellent blocker, an excellent receiver and a good runner. I think him going to the Pats means he will end up with possible OROTY honors with how the Patriots approach the utility of players. Sony has proven the ability to line up in the slot and contribute and also mitigates some of the concerns on the offensive line as a max protect RB. If the Pats could turn Patrick Pass into a solid contributor, what will they do with Sony?

I still hate the Patriots, though.

This is where I am too. My GF (a Packer Fan) told me, “you can cheer for Sony, but not the Pats”

Just more fake news from the NYT. Sony made his living by not letting guys get solid shots on him, then running through their lame tackle attempts. He will do just fine in the NFL.

We realize the phrase “fake news” wasn’t used exactly right but you understood his overall point. He felt the article had little credibility because the writer has little to no knowledge of Michel’s running style. But, we all appreciate you consistently being there to guide us to better commenting.

Nothing to disagree about. The opinion is not based on fact or reality. Call it what you will but if it’s not real it’s fake. I’m so into the NFL that I completely forgot the draft was last night. Glad to see Dawgs did well.

Relax sport. I was a good natured jab at the NYT. I actually do have respect for the opinion of others, it’s just that people like you make taking a reasonable middle ground stance impossible.

How did you manage to extract all of that from a nine word sentence?

You don’t have to open the NYT to find dumb sports journalism.
Who paid Mark May and Beano Cook and Skip Bayless? I think it was an entity that sorta “specialized” in the subject. Calling sports journalism “fake news” is redundant.

Exactly. It’s an industry built on opinions. Let’s reserve the term “fake news” for actual fake news, like “the wall is getting built.”

“Fake News” is reading about the president’s personal lawyer getting his hotel room, home and office raided pursuant to a search warrant and then taking the fifth amendment.
“Fake News” is then hearing that the president admitted on live tv that this lawyer represented him in a porn star payoff that both he and the lawyer had previously denied he had any knowledge of.
No way any of that shit is true if that guy is still in the White House. Kirby couldn’t keep his job under these circumstances. Hugh freeze got fired for calling whores. Has to be fake news! Otherwise nothing makes sense anymore.

Just messing with Derek on a slow Friday morning. I don’t think it’s possible to have a thoughtful political discussion on a football blog, probably would difficult anywhere on the internet. People tend to speak in sound bites and insults. I think you would agree things are much too complicated for that to work.

i think some of the lefts issues with Trump is how much better looking his girls were compared to Bill. It amazes me how it was none of our business and a personal matter for Bill but Trump does not get the same pass.

First, you’ve got this out of order. Did you fuckers give bill a pass? No. The hypocrisy is on your side, dick.
Second, it’s not the sex and it’s not the attractiveness. She gets paid money to have sex. She’s a sex worker, dickhead. Most reasonable think: icky not to mention sticky.
Third, it appears that the funding of the hush money agreement was a crime. We damn sure know they can’t keep there stories straight so they are hiding something. Cohen took the fifth you penis.

You asked yesterday about recruiting, and this will stick in recruits’ mind. If you just had a fun energy filled Spring Game it leaves a lasting impression not the reason but a positive impression. The kids might have even bumped into a former player or 3 at Gday who are loving their day watching friends play in a scrimmage that are waking up a multi millionaire today less than a week later. Continued positive impressions.

I believe the writer may have been thinking Sony is Chubb.
He probably read about the knee injury and Chubb’s sub-par first year back from it and thought he had a big point to make, not realizing he wasn’t even reading about the right player.

Stupid Belichick! Doesn’t even know you’re supposed to draft RBs who make ‘super sharp nfl cuts’. Why would he want an all-purpose, all-down RB that has a tendency to tote the rock into the endzone in big games.
Now that Barkley kid the NY Giants took 2nd overall – that’s some sharp cuttin right there! Just might help the Giants win one or two more games in ’18.

Clearly Pittman is overpaid. There were only 2 picks in the first round that he coached and Ragnow “is a reach” according to the NYT genius who wrote the article.
While this is not the question you asked, Senator, I think it is time we face the fact Belichek and the Patriots don’t know a thing about football draft choices or football in general for that matter. All those championships are nothing but dumb luck and poor officiating.
