“You don’t really look forward to playing Georgia.”

Dabo’s all in on Clemson-Georgia being an annual thing.

Clemson coach Dabo Swinney, who likes to test his team with an SEC opponent other than South Carolina, would be a fan of Georgia and Clemson renewing their rivalry.

“Absolutely,” Swinney said when asked whether he would like to play Georgia every year. “I think it’d be great for both fan bases. I’ve said that for a long time. We’re going to play somebody like that every year. We go to Texas A&M this year, then they come to us. We played Auburn a bunch of times. So I think that would be great.”

Hey, I’m down with that, especially if it meant dumping a cupcake game from the schedule.  Somehow, I’ve got the feeling Kirby and McGarity might feel differently in that regard.

A fun note that occurred to me thanks to that story: Clemson will have played Texas A&M twice before UGA plays A&M once even though UGA is in A&M’s conference.

Let’s get ready to RUMBLE!! Just like the Dawgs and the Tigers did annually back in the day… Fat Chance.

    I’d love it. I think it’s a great rivalry.

Amen! It was a national game back in the 80’s when we were both powerhouses. Kinda like we both are today.

Too bad BM doesn’t agree w/ the fans. Maybe when we fail to show up for “prop” duty due to excessive cupcakes our input will be valued.

When Clemson allots the same number of tickets to UGA that they get in Athens then get it on.

I’d love to alternate Clemson and Tech but that will never happen.

I always liked Dabo’s idea of a exhibition spring game but because of the injury risk maybe a 7 on 7 for skill positions, oklahoma drill for linemen, and specialty competition between the teams. That’d be more fun than inter-squad game I’d think.

Auburn @ home/Clemson away, Auburn away/tech@home, Auburn@home/tech away, Auburn away/Clemson@home…IMO thatd be way better than the current configuration

The first time either team is left out of the playoff due to strength of schedule, you can be guaranteed they’ll be breaking their necks to make this happen.

I’d rather not give Dabo a trip to Athens every other year to use as a recruiting tool to pull the next Deshaun Watson out of Georgia… It’s all about recruiting, right?

It makes more sense to Dabo than it does to us. He uses that game every year as a showcase to gain more recruits out of GA. I say we go national. Id love to play USC or Texas etc. If we are going to recruit nationally, which Kirby is already doing lets go where the recruits are.

  10. Dabo is smart. By the time they can arrange it, he’ll be on the back end of his career either at Clemson or he’ll be at Alabama. Personally, I think they should play a neutral at MBS, home and away, neutral at Charlotte’s field or back at MBS, home and away, neutral, home and away, etc.

Make it the first game of the season every year. This game would be massive.

Do that, and add another SEC game to the schedule…

We already lose a home game to a neutral site game every year in Jax and I’m fine with that but I don’t want to lose another home game to another neutral site. It benefits neither Georgia nor Clemson to play each other as long as the beauty pageant committee is picking the CFP participants.

After doing ND last year its hard to get jacked up about watching a game at clemmons. Give CMR a call and schedule Miami, or go someplace out west like Texas, Utah, Arizona, Stanford, Washington, Colorado (again) or UCLA/USC. Heck, I’d prefer a weekend trip to Pitt, Boston College, Lousville, or Maryland than go to clemmons. Fun for the fans and it’ll give recruits a geography lesson.

Not out west, Westy. Particularly at night which is what a lot of teams on the west coast like. The team has to fly back crossing 3 time zones on an all nighter. It screws up practice for the next game. That’s what happened to the Dawgs when they played Bama in ’08. It not only screwed up that game, it messed up the entire season.

Can we wait until after Trevor Lawrence leaves?

I’ve got a feeling we may be seeing clemson without having to put them on the schedule.

Nope sorry Dabo, we ain’t scheduling a team we likely will face in CFP, he’s just putting this out there for recruiting noise…move along now.

Dabo needs Georgia much, much more than Kirby needs South Carolina.

Dump a cupcake, but NOT the first game of the year. Let the guys play a game that can be won even making mistakes. Much is learned in that first game..

I actually like 2 cupcakes at the beginning, the second a little stronger than the first. A Sunbelt team then a MAC or AAC team.

Saban schedules big games for the first game to keep players motivated and focused during the summer. I think it’s a good idea.

Let Clemson swap conferences with KY or Vandy (roundballers), go to the SEC W and bring Auburn to the SEC E. That would strengthen both sides of the SEC and Georgia could play Clemson as a permanent W opponent. Then if Dabo still isn’t happy with his SOS in the SECW. Am I crazy? (that IS a rhetorical question)

LOL; Clemson would be the most geographically eastern team in the SEC and would be in the SEC West. I don’t see that happening.

Kick the chickens out of the SEC (where they never belonged in the first place) and replace them with Clemson is the only thing that makes sense. The chickens are a perfect fit in the ACC. They place baseball and women’s basketball above football on their bragging scale.

Where they once were. I remember the signs that used to go up in Charlottesville every other year announcing “Pluck You, Gamecocks.”

  18. I love the Clemson rivalry. It’s the game I grew up with that mattered, and it was an early season national showcase game no matter what Stewart Mandel thinks. With 8 conference games including one on a neutral site and COFH, Clemson has to be scheduled like any other OOC game, but we should play a home and home every 8-10 years.

I don’t understand the fussing over CKS wanting fans at spring game to help recruiting, if it means we get the recruiting classes we are getting it’s a small ask of the fans

Longing for the good old days when Clemson folks would arrive on Friday and paint tiger paws on the side of our buildings late Friday night and you could buy a poster of a guy in a cow pasture with boards on his feet and a caption that read, “Ski Clemson”
