Georgia Way, meet Jimmy Sexton.

It sounds like Kirby’s about to make bank today.  I bet there’s been a fair amount of blinking over the dollar amount, but resistance is futile.

What’s your best guess on where his new salary winds up?  It should be the result of what you get when you whip earlier-than-expected results, the ego-driven need to prove to recruits and competitors that your program is serious about winning and (of course) Sexton’s unparalleled ability to manipulate athletic directors together into one heady sauce.  Stay tuned.

UPDATE:  If you had $7 million a year in the Kirby Smart salary pool, congrats.

That’s gonna be one mother of a buyout.  Hope they never need to pay it.

UPDATE #2:  The new normal.

It will benefit CKS greatly that Adams is not the prez.

5.75 to 6.5 over 7 years is my prediction.

I’d say 6 for now, with a healthy bonus for another SEC and NC available. And the understanding that an NC gets it all torn up and another base salary jump. You get Saban like results, you pay Saban like money. You get less than that, you get fired. Fair enough, Kirby has produced. If he can maintain the consistency of last year, he’s worth it.

I should have bet the over!

The market is pretty easy to identify, as is the going rate. As much as a guy with no prior HC experience can, is say KS has proved his worth in 2 seasons.

  4. $6MM a year with a bonus structure that could take it to $7.5MM. That positions him right behind CGM at Augurn and put’s him ahead of him when they have great years.

Like several others here, I’m thinking $6.5 million with a really good bonus structure.

This just in….Tom Crean has agreed to take a voluntary salary cut, so that we can pay Kirby what he deserves. Guess that’s life for a basketball coach at a football school.

PS I’m obviously joking and Kirby deserves to make serious bank for the results he’s delivered on and off the field.

I think we are going to step up and pay the man and make a big statement. McGoof was all in on Kirby from day 1 and his fortunes are tied directly to him. So I don’t think we will see a McCheap approach here

McGoof was all in as soon as his apparently wise masters told him to forget about hiring Mullen, and get on board with their selection. I’m not giving him credit for anything except maybe not screwing it all up.

    Pay dat man his money

He’ll slot right in with Mullen and Malzahn because those are 2 of our biggest rivals.

Where things are today, for better or worse, it’s less about “can you afford doing this” and more “can you afford NOT doing it.”

I have no idea. I would guess a contract worth around 35 million.

  18. Good for him. Jimmy Sexton is a sleazebag, but I like he’s taking the AD behind the woodshed.

Better check that hospitality rider this time, Greg Mediocrity. If Ludicris can get dinner, snacks, vodka, cognac, Patron, snapple, T-shirts, toothpaste, and condoms, just imagine what Sexton’s gonna demand!

Mandel’s comment is funny when he addresses 3 coaches on familiar terms (Dabo, Kirby, Jimbo) while mentioning the other three by their last names (Saban, Meyer, Harbaugh). Friendly vs. distance?

That list of the $7 million club…. one of those things is not like the other. At least Kirby and Malzahn have taken a team to the title game. Brother Harbaugh has yet to even take a team to the Big Ten title game. Nice work if you can get it.

The important thing to remember here is that we cannot give any money to the players. They just wouldn’t appreciate it the way these coaches do.

Malzahn is the coach on the list to make it to the championship game using a dB as qb.

    Senator,

Do you like or hate Georgia Football? College football? Reason I ask is, I see more negativity than the other…

    • Man, I’ve been at it for 11+ years, 21,000+ posts, and you’re the first guy who’s figured out I hate Georgia football. Well done.

Just curious — why would a Georgia fan, such as yourself, read a blogger who hates Georgia football?
